Real Madrid’s stunning Champions League exploits against Paris Saint-Germain, which saw them recover from two goals down on aggregate to reach the quarter-finals, have captured the imagination of a global audience – with NBA superstar Luka Doncic among those to have been singing their praises.

Karim Benzema was the hero for the Blancos as he hit a second-half hat-trick against star-studded Ligue 1 opponents at Santiago Bernabeu to book the Liga table-toppers a place in the last eight.

His exploits, along with the performance of Croatian midfielder Luka Modric, caught the eye of Dallas Mavericks ace Doncic, who spent six years in the Spanish capital representing Real’s basketball team before being selected with the third overall pick in the first round of the 2018 NBA Draft.

What has been said?

Doncic, who was the EuroLeague MVP during his final season in Madrid and has gone on to become a three-time All-Star in the NBA, told reporters after seeing his favourite football team deliver a remarkable performance on a continental stage: “Yes, I saw the second half, it was incredible.

“What Benzema has done, three goals in five or six minutes, has been incredible. And how Luka Modric has played, it was super class.”

Benzema actually recorded his treble across 17 minutes against PSG, with his first goal arriving just after the hour mark before a quick-fire brace saw him claim the match ball by the 78th minute.

Real are now waiting to discover who they will land in the Champions League quarter-final draw on March 18, while Doncic and the Mavericks are looking to cement a standing inside the NBA Western Conference play-off spots.
