"I hope he can stay with us," Xavi told reporters. "I have already said it and I have no problem repeating it again.

"He can be the best in the world in his position. The club is working for the present and the future.

"Ousmane is an important footballer and I hope he decides to stay. I'd sign his new contract immediately.

"I can only speak since I took charge and he is being exemplary in how he trains, his attitude, commitment and his involvement.

"I don't know how he was before but I see him motivated, happy and with a very winning character. It's not a surprise that he'd come to training on his day off. He's a great professional."

GOAL can confirm that Barcelona have held a "very positive" meeting with Ousmane Dembele's representatives with regards to a potential contract extension, but negotiations are set to continue over the financial 'red lines' currently in place at Camp Nou.

Barcelona head coach Xavi believes Ousmane Dembele is "very happy" at Barcelona and urged him to talk to the club if he wants to stay put.

He told reporters: "I see Ousmane Dembele very happy, if he wants to stay he should talk to the club."

AS reports that the winger is close to moving to the French club and may even have already signed a contract.

Barcelona advisor Jordi Cruyff admits Ousmane Dembele’s contract situation – with the French forward still heading towards free agency in the summer – is complicated.

He has told Sport: “The situation in respect to the renovation of Dembele is not easy. I believe that what is most important is that he continues helping the team and the rest will come.

“He has had a good game, like many players that are out of contact and search for a better contract. He continues helping the team to achieve the best objectives and aside from that, we cannot control.”

Ousmane Dembele is yet to sign a new contract at Barcelona, but COPE claims he is now open to the idea of doing so.

The World Cup-winning France international forward will hit free agency this summer if no fresh terms are agreed, but he is ready to hold more extension talks and may end yet end up remaining at Camp Nou.

Barcelona have identified Manchester United and Juventus as the two clubs looking to sign Ousmane Dembele this summer, according to Sport.

The Catalans failed in their attempts to offload the forward in January and suspect that one of those two giants may have already struck an agreement with him.

Ousmane Dembele saw the January transfer window close without signing a new contract at Barcelona or sealing a move elsewhere, and club president Joan Laporta believes the Frenchman has a free transfer agreement lined up.

He has said of a World Cup winner: "We think he has an agreement with another club. That's what his agent has insinuated to us. We will act for the good of the club.”

Manchester United have made a late move to sign Barcelona's Ousmane Dembele from under the noses of PSG, according to Footmercato.

PSG have already verbally agreed a deal with Barca to sign the French winger but United have now made contact with the player's entourage.
