Commentary

That's all from Berlin today, so thank you for joining us and goodbye!
Bayern's next outing will come in the very different surrounds of San Siro, where they meet Inter in their Champions League opener on Wednesday, while Union kick off their Europa League campaign a day later.
For the second week running, Bayern are denied their customary three points by battling - and sometimes fortunate - opponents. Like Sommer last weekend, though not quite to the same extent, Ronnow was able to repel the champions any time they broke through Union's stern defensive resistance - excepting Kimmich's equaliser in the first half. The teams stay locked together on points in the standings, but both have now been surpassed at the summit.
90' + 5' FULL-TIME: UNION BERLIN 1-1 BAYERN MUNICH
90' + 3' SAVE! With one minute remaining of the indicated stoppage time remaining, Mane almost snatches the points! The Senegal striker's header is arrowing towards the top of the net, but Ronnow leaps like a salmon and tips it over the crossbar! A super stop!
90' + 1' Gnabry cuts a sharp ball back from the right byline, which has to be hacked away for a corner. Bayern then earn another one straight after, but Sabitzer can only drag a subsequent half-chance well wide of the left-hand post.
89' Leweling has shown great gusto since coming on, and it takes three Bayern challenges to deny him access to the final third, on the right. That earns Union a throw-in deep inside the visitors' half.
R. Khedira
Yellow Card
Union Berlin
87' As Bayern attempt to break Khedira away downfield, Khedira takes a booking for his blatant shirt-pull on Gravenberch.
P. Seguin
A. Schäfer
Union Berlin
85' Schafer's game comes to an end, as Seguin is thrown on for the closing stages.
G. Haraguchi
M. Thorsby
Union Berlin
85' Union make a midfield change: Thorsby makes way for Haraguchi.
L. Goretzka
A. Davies
Bayern München
85' Goretzka makes his Bundesliga comeback for the final few minutes; Davies is replaced.
84' Union have had some success with playing long balls over Bayern's high press, but after the latest, Leweling is penalised for an aerial challenge on Pavard; conceding a free-kick.
82' SAVE! Ronnow makes another stop with his foot, as the ball rebounds off Davies at the end of an intricate Bayern attack and almost flies past the Union goalkeeper!
N. Gießelmann
J. Ryerson
Union Berlin
81' After putting in a strong shift, Ryerson takes some warm applause from the fans and makes way for Giesselmann.
77' Bayern bite back, as Gnabry fires an effort from a tight angle high over Ronnow's goal - either side could win this yet!
76' Union are warming to the task of springing a seismic shock here, as Schafer tries his luck with a shot from outside the box. It flies over the crossbar, though.
75' SHARP SAVE! Upon wriggling away from Upamecano on the left flank, substitute Leweling hares towards the area and drives a low effort towards the bottom corner. However, Neuer throws out a giant glove and palms it away to his right - superb reactions, considering he has had so little to do! It stays 1-1!
74' Mane almost picks out Sane on the left side of the area with a throughball, but his pass is slightly overhit and ends up trickling away to safety for the relieved Union defence.
S. Gnabry
K. Coman
Bayern München
73' Bayern switch things up again in the final third, as Coman is withdrawn and Gnabry replaces him.
R. Gravenberch
Yellow Card
Bayern München
72' Overstretching in an attempt to win back the ball, Gravenberch rakes his studs across Ryerson's shins and is shown a yellow card, not long after coming on.
71' Following the second Union corner, Schafer handles the ball as he tries to bring it under control, and the pressure is relieved on Bayern.
70' Trimmel sends an inswinging corner over from the left, to which De Ligt rises highest and heads away, but Bayern then concede another corner - this time on the other side.
68' From 20 yards out, Muller tries to flip a ball over the top to Coman, who lurks near the penalty spot, but it drifts too close to Ronnow, who gathers it in easily.
66' Since making the changes, Bayern's intensity has stepped up a touch, and their black jerseys are swarming around the Union area now. Surely it's just a matter of time before they break through?
64' Michel's first meaningful act is to commit a foul on Upamecano, which gives Bayern a free-kick inside their own half.
J. Leweling
S. Becker
Union Berlin
62' A clearly annoyed Becker wanted to add to his goal, but he has to give way for Leweling up front.
S. Michel
K. Behrens
Union Berlin
62' Fischer responds with a double change of his own: Behrens is replaced by Michel.
R. Gravenberch
J. Kimmich
Bayern München
62' Kimmich is also withdrawn, as Gravenberch comes on to add fresh legs to the Bayern midfield.
T. Müller
J. Musiala
Bayern München
62' Nagelsmann opts for a double substitution to aid his side's search for a winner. First, the youthful Musiala makes way for wily veteran Muller.
59' De Ligt is forced to concede a corner, after Union mount a rare counter-attack. However, the hosts can't make anything of it, and normal service is resumed.
57' Not long after having a shot saved, Mane slightly scuffs a low shot wide of the right-hand post, as Bayern push relentlessly for a second goal.
55' Bayern have upped their share of possession to a remarkable 77 per cent so far in the second half; beating even their own Bundesliga average this term: 61 per cent.
53' Soon after Thorsby concedes a free-kick for handball, Sane picks up some space on the edge of the box, but places his low shot too close to Ronnow, who gathers the ball in the centre of his goal.
51' Using strength and skill in equal measure, Ryerson stands his ground to shepherd the ball away from Coman on the touchline, as the Bayern winger seeks entry to the penalty area.
49' The pattern of Bayern hogging the ball while Union sit back and hope to break has resumed, with most of the visitors' black shirts constantly occupying their hosts' half.
47' After Kimmich's delivery into the box from a left-wing free-kick is headed clear, Pavard takes an ill-advised swipe at the bouncing ball and sends it spiralling high over the crossbar.
46' We are back under way in Berlin, with both sides unchanged for the second half.
Surely Bayern's coaching staff will already be considering how to change things around after the break, as they have a particularly well-stocked bench from which to choose: Muller, Gnabry and Goretzka are all players who will be eager to be offered a chance.
Having been held to a draw against the odds last week, Bayern again find themselves frustrated by opponents willing and able to shut them down where possible - and also ride their luck. Union's early lead did not last long, as Becker's neat finish seemed to anger the champions, who went up the other end soon after and hauled themselves level. As ever, Nagelsmann has seen his side dominate both ball and territory, but they will need to score again after the interval if they are to strike clear at the top of the Bundesliga.
45' + 1' HALF-TIME: UNION BERLIN 1-1 BAYERN MUNICH
45' CLOSE! With a curling, dipping shot from 20 yards, Sane sends the ball just centimetres over the angle of post and crossbar! It was an excellent effort from the winger, and had it been a little lower, Ronnow would've been well beaten.
44' A rare foray into the Bayern half sees Union pounce on a Davies slip, and only some sharp defending by Pavard denies Schafer the chance to shoot at goal from the edge of the box.
42' After Mane earns a free-kick 30 yards from goal, a long debate between Sane and Kimmich ensues. The latter ultimately ends up taking it, but sends the ball straight out of play; missing everyone packed inside the Union box.
40' Union have apparently abandoned all hope of entering the Bayern half until the second half, as they sit deep and try to ride out their visitors' constant waves of pressure.
38' Davies wins a free-kick out on the left flank, having been caught by Trimmel. However, the subsequent cross into the box is cleared away at the first attempt and Union get the ball to safety.
36' SUPER STOP! Ronnow to the rescue! The Union keeper gets down low to turn a powerful Sane drive over the crossbar with his foot, after the Bayern winger picked up the ball on the edge of the box from Musiala's smart throughball.
34' The first half is becoming ever more disjointed by a series of stoppages, as the game grows a little niggly. The home side have unsettled Bayern, and despite conceding most of the possession, they will not make it easy for the champions to claim all three points.
32' Shortly after Sabitzer brings down Trimmel on the right wing, the latter fires a shot from outside the box off target - putting his attempt wide of the right post following the free-kick.
30' In line with pre-match expectation - but still quite eye-catchingly - Bayern have had a 75 per cent share of the ball so far, and their passing accuracy is 34 per cent greater than that of Union's.
28' Another crunching challenge by a Bayern player sees Behrens felled by De Ligt on the left flank. Though the Dutch defender won the ball, he took the man too, so concedes a free-kick.
J. Kimmich
Yellow Card
Bayern München
26' Kimmich is penalised for another foul - this time on Thorsby, who he slices through with an ill-judged late challenge. He receives the game's first yellow card.
24' Kimmich brings down Behrens with a mistimed challenge, and concedes a free-kick.
22' Davies wins a free-kick on the left wing, following a foul on the flying full-back by Khedira.
20' Mane steers a header from the centre of the box well wide of Ronnow's left-hand post, following a cross from Kimmich.
18' Bayern's dominance of the ball is now growing, as if stirred by falling behind via an early set-piece. They are moving the ball quickly, with their hosts forced back further into the defensive third.
16' Though they have since conceded, Union are no strangers to taking the lead this season: they are the only Bundesliga team not to fall behind in any game this term. But can they maintain that record for the rest of today's match?
J. Kimmich
Goal
Bayern München
15' BAYERN BACK LEVEL! Just minutes after falling behind, the champions equalise! Kimmich kept a clear head to drive his low shot through a thicket of bodies and into the net, in the aftermath of a corner. Already, it's 1-1 in Berlin - this could be a cracker!
C. Trimmel
Assist
Union Berlin
12' From a free-kick out on the left flank, Trimmel drops the ball onto the foot of Becker at the back post; setting up the opener.
S. Becker
Goal
Union Berlin
12' UNION GO ONE UP! Drifting in at the back post, and planting a perfectly placed side-foot volley past Neuer into the bottom corner, Becker puts Union ahead! Trimmel picked out the hosts' top scorer, who calmly steered the ball home. Bayern are on the back foot: it's 1-0 to Die Eisernen!
11' Shortly after Union manage to clear away a corner which bobbles around the edge of their box, an incisive throughball to Coman is swept up by some proactive goalkeeping from Ronnow.
9' Having matched their visitors' points tally to join them at the top of the table, Union are again attempting to break new ground today: they have never beaten Bayern in six attempts - drawing two and losing four.
7' Union counter again, but a hopeful ball by Trimmel into the box is headed away under pressure by De Ligt, who is then awarded a free-kick.
5' Kicking off a quick counter-attack, Schafer picks out Becker on the left wing, and the forward's dangerous cross is bundled behind by De Ligt for a corner.
3' Some typically slick interplay by Sane and Coman on the right side of the area ends with the latter having a goalbound shot blocked at close range by Knoche. Then, Sabitzer fires wide - a bright start from Bayern!
1' We are under way in Berlin!
The players are filing out of the tunnel amid a rousing atmosphere at Stadion An der Alten Forsterei, with kick-off now just moments away!
Bayern welcome Goretzka back for the first time in the Bundesliga this season, after the Germany midfielder returned from his knee injury with a goal in the DFB Pokal on Wednesday. He starts on the bench, as Musiala comes in for Muller and De Ligt replaces Hernandez at the back; partnering Upamecano in central defence. Recent signing Mathys Tel scored in midweek but has since been ruled out by injury.
Despite a spectacular five-goal win last week, Fischer has made four changes his Union XI today: Behrens, Schaefer, Trimmel and Jaeckel are drafted in, with injured pair Diogo Leite and Jordan Siebatcheu both sidelined by injury. In the latter's absence, Behrens joins Becker up front.
SUBS: Sven Ulreich, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, Josip Stanisic, Thomas Muller, Ryan Gravenberch, Leon Goretzka, Serge Gnabry, Lucas Hernandez, Noussair Mazraoui.
BAYERN MUNICH (4-2-3-1): Manuel Neuer; Benjamin Pavard, Dayot Upamecano, Matthijs de Ligt, Alphonso Davies; Joshua Kimmich, Marcel Sabitzer; Kingsley Coman, Jamal Musiala, Leroy Sane; Sadio Mane.
SUBS: Lennart Grill, Genki Haraguchi, Tymoteusz Puchacz, Jamie Leweling, Levin Oztunali, Paul Seguin, Sven Michel, Milos Pantovic, Niko Giesselmann.
UNION BERLIN (3-5-2): Frederik Ronnow; Paul Jaeckel, Robin Knoche, Danilho Doekhi; Christopher Trimmel, Morten Thorsby, Rani Khedira, Andras Schafer, Julian Ryerson; Sheraldo Becker, Kevin Behrens.
After a flawless start to the 2022-23 season, Bayern Munich dropped points for the first time last weekend, following a 1-1 home draw against Borussia Monchengladbach. The champions were denied time and again by inspired goalkeeper Yann Sommer, who kept Bayern at bay almost single-handedly by pulling off a record-breaking 19 saves. In midweek, Julian Nagelsmann's men were 5-0 winners at Viktoria Koln in the first round of the DFB Pokal, and they will kick off their Champions League campaign on Wednesday.
Continuing their rise towards the upper echelons of German football, Union Berlin head into today's match level on 10 points with their visitors after four matches - Bayern are ahead only on goal difference. Die Eisernen have secured 11th, seventh and fifth-placed finishes in the Bundesliga since gaining promotion under head coach Urs Fischer, and have now started with three wins and a draw this term. Their most recent success saw Sheraldo Becker and Sven Michel both find the net twice in last week's 6-1 thumping of Schalke 04.
