Bayern kick off their Champions League campaign with a 4-3 victory over Manchester United in a thrilling contest at Allianz Arena. A terrible mistake by Andre Onana allowed the hosts to take the lead through Leroy Sane before they extended their advantage as Serge Gnabry found the net. Rasmus Hojlund got United back into the game in the second half with his first goal for the club. But, Harry Kane scored from the penalty spot after Christian Eriksen was penalised for handball. Casemiro threatened to set up a tense finale, only for Mathys Tel to add a fourth for the German outfit. In the dying seconds, Casemiro notched his second of the game, but it was too late for Erik ten Hag's men.

The deadlock was broken courtesy of a terrible mistake by United keeper Andre Onana, who spilled Leroy Sane's strike into the net. Manchester United have made a poor start to their season by their standards and are in dire need of a positive result to turn the momentum around. Although the Red Devils did beat Wolves and Nottingham Forest in the Premier League neither were convincing results, while defeats to Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Brighton last time out have put Erik ten Hag under the spotlight. The Dutchman needs a strong effort from his team tonight to start their campaign in Europe on the front foot.
The contest brings back memories of the famous 1999 Champions League final between the clubs as United struck twice at the death to produce a remarkable win. Bayern will want to set a marker down early in the competition against the Red Devils, and they did beat them in their last meeting in 2014 at the quarter-final stage. Thomas Tuchel's men have been in impressive form in the Bundesliga heading into the game, winning three out of their last four matches, although their last outing resulted in a thrilling 2-2 draw against Bayer Leverkusen.
