Amakhosi will need to make some big calls with regards to the futures of some of their stars when the current term ends.

    Which players should Chiefs offload?

Chiefs are set to delve into the transfer market and sign players as part of their preparations for the 2022-23 campaign.

While there will be incomings at the club including Siyethembe Sithebe from AmaZulu FC, there is no denying that a few players will be let go after the season ends.

Here, GOAL takes a look at the five players who could leave Chiefs this winter:

  • Lazarous Kambole of Kaizer Chiefs August 2020

    Lazarous Kambole

The Zambia international will be one of the first players to leave Amakhosi when the South African winter transfer window officially opens on July 1.

Kambole was expected to part ways with the Soweto giants prior to the start of the current term after he was transfer listed, but he stayed put and he remains a fringe player.

However, Kambole is not short of admirers as he has reportedly attracted interest from Tanzania's biggest football clubs Simba and Young Africans.

The 28-year-old striker's former Zambian club Zesco United are also said to be an option for him.

  • Kearyn Baccus of Kaizer Chiefs, November 2021

The Durban-born Australian midfielder is another Chiefs player who is definitely heading for the exit door this winter having found it difficult to cement his place in the starting line-up.

Baccus' current deal with the Soweto giants will expire at the end of the current campaign and his agent Mike Makaab has stated that the player is highly unlikely to sign a new deal.

The 30-year-old could return to Australia where he is highly rated having played for reigning A-League champions Melbourne City, before joining Chiefs.

  • Dumisani Zuma of Kaizer Chiefs

The gifted forward has endured a forgettable season having been suspended by Chiefs for an off-field incident after he recovering from an injury.

Zuma's suspension has since been lifted, but he continues to struggle for game time and his future with the Soweto giants is unclear.

Stellenbosch FC have been constantly linked with Zuma since last year with coach Steve Barker believed to be a big fan of the former Bloemfontein Celtic winger.

The 26-year-old's current deal with Amakhosi will last until July 2023.

  • Samir Nurkovic of Kaizer Chiefs, August 2021

The experienced striker has entered the final year of his contract with Chiefs and he remains a regular for the Naturena-based giants.

However, Amakhosi have reportedly failed to meet a deadline set in exercising an option to extend his contract and the club is at risk of losing him for free.

His agent Dajan Simac disclosed that Al Ahly and their head coach Pitso Mosimane are interested in his client earlier this season.

The Egyptian giants could now pounce and sign the 29-year-old, who would be available on a free transfer.

  • Daniel Akpeyi

The Nigeria international's deal will expire at the end of the season and it is unclear whether he will get another contract extension.

Akpeyi, who is part of Nigeria's 2021 Afcon squad, signed a two-year contract in 2020 and is now serving as Amakhosi's third-choice goalkeeper.

There is an unnamed overseas club that is reportedly keen to sign him on a free transfer.
