The Walia Ibex have returned home to Ethiopia after the group stages of Afcon but signed off with a credible 1-1 draw against knockout stage qualifiers Burkina Faso.
It had been almost nine years since the Walia Ibex had last played at the Africa Cup of Nations held in South Africa in 2013 when they walked onto the pitch to play their opening fixture against Cape Verde.
Three Ethiopia players played all 270 minutes of the tournament: Teklemariam Shanko, Aschalew Tamene, and Amanuel Yohannes.

Ethiopia scored two goals at Afcon 2021. Dawa Hotessa opened the scoring against Cameroon in their second group match at Paul Biya Stadium, Olembe. Then, in their final group match against Burkina Faso, Getaneh Kebede scored an equaliser from the penalty spot.
Coach Wubetu Abate used 13 substitutes in the Walia Ibex's three group matches. Five subs in the opener against Cape Verde, five in the Match Day 2 loss to Cameroon, and three in the final group match against Burkina Faso.
Twenty is the age of the youngest member of the squad, Hawassa City striker Mesfin Tafesse. He came off the bench against Burkina Faso to earn his first Afcon finals appearance for his country.
On the 26th of December, Ethiopia became the first team to arrive in Cameroon for the Africa Cup of Nations. After their mandatory Covid testing was complete, they had the first training session of the tournament at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Annex 1 Stadium.
In 1962 Ethiopia hosted and won the Africa Cup of Nations. The tournament is known for having the highest goals-per-game average (4.5) in Africa Cup of Nations history.
