Just when everything seemed to be going so well for Barcelona, another injury has struck. Indeed, with Robert Lewandowski, Ronald Araujo and Ferran Torres due to rejoin the squad, the Blaugrana now have a new issue. Ousmane Dembele was substituted against Girona after 25 minutes, with the winger picking up an apparent quadriceps injury.
That presents a big problem for Barca, as they were counting on the in-form Dembele to continue to strut his stuff in the coming weeks. How long he will be out for is unknown.
However, there is good news. Everyone else is healthy, while Pedri seems to have avoided a serious injury scare after taking a boot to the knee against Real Sociedad. GOAL takes a look at Barca's injury and suspension situation, and how long those sidelined will be out for.
Lewandowski has completed his three La Liga game suspension and is free to join the Blaugrana in league play immediately. He hasn't been completely sidelined, though; the suspension rules didn't apply to the Copa Del Rey. So, Barca's star striker will be fit and firing for his full time comeback.
Expected return: Lewandowski figures to be in the XI as Barca take on Betis on Wednesday.
The French winger picked up a quad injury during Barcelona's La Liga contest with Girona on January 28th. Although he was able to walk off the pitch, Dembele was later pictured limping to the bench during the second half. Xavi conceded he didn't know the full extent of the injury, and that the winger would need a scan before a time frame can be established.
Expected return: It isn't clear how bad Dembele's injury is yet. However, Barcelona confirmed that the player has a quad strain. If it's relatively minor, Dembele could be back within a few weeks. Barcelona will be hoping their star winger won't be out for too long; they play Manchester United in the Europa League knockout stages in mid-February.
