Rayo hold on to make it two wins against Barcelona this season. The visitors started brightly and took the lead when Alvaro Garcia finished off Palazon's superb throughball. Barcelona struggled for rhythm throughout the first half, but did have chances to equalise through Dembele and Gavi. The hosts continued to struggle in the second period as Rayo wasted time whenever possible. Depay and Dembele were both denied by heroic late blocks and despite the referee adding on almost 15 minutes of stoppage time, Rayo held on for a famous 1-0 win.

The visitors made a quick start as Barcelona struggled for rhythm early on: Alvaro Garcia latched onto Palazon's superb throughball, before drilling a low finish beyond Ter Stegen. Barcelona struggled to react to the goal, but eventually began to exert some pressure on Rayo just before the break. Dembele began to cause plenty of issues, while Gavi hit the bar as the hosts built the pressure. Nevertheless, Rayo held firm to take their slender advantage into the interval.
