Marcus Rashford opened the scoring with a sensational effort in Manchester United’s Premier League meeting with Arsenal.

Marcus Rashford made it nine goals in nine games on Sunday as he opened the scoring in Manchester United’s Premier League clash with Arsenal.

Rashford evaded a Thomas Partey challenge before bearing down on goal and beating Aaron Ramsdale with a thumping effort to break the deadlock.

Naturally, South African fans have been quick to take to social media with their praise in the aftermath of the goal…but predictably, the praise has come for Benni McCarthy, as well as Rashford.

United were unable to hold on to their advantage, with Arsenal ultimately running out 3-2 winners, but ZA fans were still purring with praise for Benni.

  1. Praise for the coach

“McCarthy’s effect and work is visible for everyone to see,” wrote user @_uBongani. “What a goal by Rashy.”

It’s a sentiment also shared by numerous South African fans, including @SR178_King.

“Ten Hag is cooking,” they wrote. “We need to acknowledge the arrogance that Benni has instilled in Marcus Rashford.

“The player is in the form of his career.”

  2. Give Benni a raise

User @otherthero was one of several Twitter handles who called on the United board to reward McCarthy financially for the work he’s done with Rashford.

“Benni deserves a raise,” he wrote, in a tweet directed at United’s handle.

“I hope Benni had a goal bonus written into his contract,” echoed user Daniel Schofield.

  3. The Demon

“Benni McCarthy is bringing the demon out of Rashford,” wrote @CrisPu1i, referring, perhaps to the mentality monster that the England striker has become, not just his exceptional goalscoring record in recent months.

  4. The Beast

“I don’t know what Benni is doing with Rashford,” wrote admirer @Tumeloo_M, “but he is turning this boy into a beast!”

  5. Rashford is cooking

    Rashford is cooking

The striker has been in sensational form since returning from the World Cup, making a decisive impact in every game he’s played, but @MaqPaulM believes that McCarthy should be taking the credit.

“Benni McCarthy factor,” he wrote. “Rashford is cooking.”

    @GeoVin_FS agrees.

“Benni is cooking with his coaching,” they wrote on Twitter.

  6. Benni to Chelsea?

    Benni to Chelsea?

One supporter is desperate for Chelsea, not Manchester United, to be benefiting from Benni’s superb work behind the scenes.

“Todd Boehly,” user @NumbNeptune tweeted, “please buy Benni McCarthy.”
