The battle at Orlando Stadium is a clash of teams fresh from reaching the Nedbank Cup final last weekend

Orlando Pirates’ Premier Soccer League top-two bid faces what could be a stern test when they host Sekhukhune United on Saturday.

The Buccaneers are second on the table with two points more than third-placed SuperSport United, and it is in their hands to keep themselves in that position.

Returning to the Caf Champions League has become a priority for the Buccaneers under Spaniard Jose Riveiro, who recorded his first Soweto Derby victory against Kaizer Chiefs last weekend.

After struggling to break Mamelodi Sundowns PSL dominance, finishing second would appease Pirates fans. 

But they come up against an unpredictable Sekhukhune United side that is high in confidence after reaching the Nedbank Cup final.

It will be a dress rehearsal of the Nedbank Cup final as Pirates will also participate in the decider of South Africa’s elite knockout competition.

While the Buccaneers are looking to end the campaign as runners-up to champions Sundowns, seventh-placed Sekhukhune are keen on a top-eight finish. This is Babina Noko who have enjoyed some improved fortunes under Brandon Truter, who took over last November while they were second from the bottom but could now play in Africa next season.

    The Buccaneers announced that attacker Thembinkosi Lorch is inching closer to returning to action after being sidelined by injury in the past few weeks.

    Defender Bandile Shandu who was stretchered off last week's Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs has also returned to training.

    But there are doubts about captain Innocent Maela and midfielder Goodman Mosele, who have been battling fitness issues.
