Fans have laughed off suggestions that Kaizer Chiefs striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana will become the Premier Soccer League's top scorer.
Burundi coach Jimmy Ndayizeye recently tipped the new Amakhosi striker to outperform his competitors in the Golden Boot race.
After scoring a hattrick of penalties against Stellenbosch, Bimenyimana went drew level with Peter Shalulile of Mamelodi Sundowns as both are leading the scorers’ chart with six goals each.
Ndayizeye said he is convinced his fellow countryman can emerge as the league’s top scorer, but his comment has been dismissed by fans.
The fans argue that Bimenyimana can emerge as the PSL’s best striker if Chiefs win penalties in every game.
Bar any injury or suspension, Bimenyimana – who also scored a brace against SuperSport United - is set to start the majority of Chiefs games since he has shown his capability to score vital goals.
Meanwhile, before facing AmaZulu on October 23 in the MTN8 semi-final second leg, Chiefs will face Chippa United and TS Galaxy in PSL games.
Yeah, if Chiefs can get penalties every time they play, but other than that, I don't think so. The guy is a basketball player or a hip-hop artist or something like that. - Shakes Mohlomi
If his team gets rewarded with penalties every week, he will get the award. If referees do not buy into his falls but caution him, that will be the end. - Francis Mvelase Ka Guda
I am a Chiefs supporter who understands football, Bineminyana has to improve his finishing and heading accuracy. He can't score a hat-trick of penalties, and all of a sudden we're convinced he'll take the golden boot.
Peter Shalulile, Kermit Erasmus, and Bradley Grobler are still likely to be top scorers, Victor Letsoalo is playing for the wrong team! Mosese Modungoa Lebohang
History made by this man and Kaizer Chiefs. Surely he'll be a top goal scorer on penalties, not on open play. - Luyanda Masango
Just because he is scoring penalties, remember not every game will get penalties. -Dumsane Innocent
I will appreciate him if he can score more than six goals from now on open play, not penalties. - Ayanda Nxumalo
It’s not about appreciating [the] coach, it’s all about scoring goals week in and week out. Otherwise, if he doesn’t do that, we will easily turn against him. - Sphelele Otherness Nqabeni
