Real Madrid vs Barcelona Predictions: La Liga Week 9 Match Odds & Best Bets

One of the biggest football fixtures in the world takes place this weekend in Madrid as the top two sides in La Liga meet

The first edition of El Clásico has arrived this season and will take place at the Santiago Bernabéu. Both teams are coming off disappointing draws in the Champions League in the midweek.

Barcelona’s draw against Inter Milan means their Champions League future is no longer in their hands and they will most likely be eliminated to the Europa League for the second consecutive season.

Real Madrid salvaged a draw at Shakhtar Donetsk thanks to an extra time header from Antonio Rüdiger, which resulted in him cutting his forehead and bleeding over his kit. He did not suffer a bone injury, and Real Madrid have not ruled him out yet for this weekend’s fixture.

Let’s look at the betting odds for this Week 9 matchup between Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Ani Sridhar’s 2022-23 La Liga Betting Record: 15-16 (+1.45 Units)

Real Madrid vs Barcelona Odds

  • 3-Way Handicap: Real Madrid (+120) | Draw (+260) | Barcelona (+210)
  • Over/Under Goals: Over 2.5 ( -175) | Under 2.5 (+125)
  • Both Teams to Score: Yes (-200)| No (+140)

Real Madrid vs Barcelona odds are current as of Friday, Oct.14, on BetMGM Sportsbook.

The oddsmakers are giving the home side the advantage in this matchup but not by a large margin. Injuries are going to play a huge factor in this contest and these odds might change Sunday when the lineups come out.

The books are also expecting a high-scoring game with the Over 2.5 juiced to -175 and both teams scored at -200.

Real Madrid vs Barcelona Betting Tips

If it wasn’t for the injuries to Barcelona’s defense, I would’ve predicted Barcelona to win this game on the road. Unfortunately for the Catalans, they will have to rely on Gerard Piqué and Eric García to man the middle of the backline. They were exposed against Inter Milan Wednesday and could have a similar result in El Clásico.

Real Madrid might still be without the services of their goalie Thibaut Courtois and against Robert Lewandowski, that could prove to be a huge issue. We could see a lot of goals in this contest with a fast-paced game even though Barcelona likes to play possession-based football.

Los Blancos are one of the best teams in the world on the counter attack, and Vinícius Jr. will enjoy attacking the right side of the Barcelona defense. Lautaro Martínez was able to find pockets of space against the Barca defense earlier this week and the Real Madrid wingers will also capitalize.

The last time these two clubs played in La Liga was in March 2022 when Barcelona won 4-0 at the Bernabéu. This was when Real Madrid had already pretty much clinched the league but this match will be under different circumstances.

Both the clubs are tied at the top of the table with 22 points with the edge going to Barcelona who have the higher goal differential.

With first place in La Liga on the line, expect goals from both teams and the edge going to the Madridistas to win the game.

Real Madrid vs Barcelona Prediction

Real Madrid 3-1 Barcelona

The attacking players for both sides will be healthy but both teams will not have their preferred defensive pieces. This will result in a high-scoring game and the advantage to the team that is more healthy. I cannot trust Piqué and García to hold off this Real Madrid attack and it could get ugly quick for Barcelona.

Real Madrid vs Barcelona Best Bets

➕Real Madrid to Win (+120) at BetMGM Sportsbook

WAGER: 1 Unit

Los Blancos will re-take first place in La Liga with a win against their rivals. They are the healthier team going into this contest - especially on defense - which is why I like this bet. Xavi might experiment with a different combination for the Barcelona backline but it’s still not strong enough to contain the Real Madrid attack.

➕Both Teams to Score And Over 2.5 Goals (-125) at BetMGM Sportsbook

WAGER: 1 Unit

This will be a high-scoring game with both teams finding the back of the net. Real Madrid have conceded in seven of their eight La Liga matches so far this season and although the Barcelona defense has been stout conceding only one goal so far this domestic season

This is a new combination of defenders playing together. Back both teams to score and Over 2.5 goals in this game.
