WHAT HAPPENED? Barcelona suffered a blow after losing key midfielder Pedri to injury in the first half of their Europa League clash with Manchester United which finished 2-2 at Camp Nou. The 20-year-old had to be replaced before half-time, with Sergi Roberto coming on for him. Pedri was able to walk off the pitch but now faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines after tests confirmed the extent of the injury.
WHAT THEY SAID: Barcelona offered an update on Pedri's injury in a statement: "FC Barcelona's Pedri has injured the rectus femoris muscle in his right thigh (hamstring). Following tests on Friday morning the damage has been confirmed and he will be unavailable for selection until his leg has recovered."
THE BIGGER PICTURE: Xavi is already without captain Sergio Busquets and forward Ousmane Dembele due to injury and has now lost another key player. Pedri is one of the first names on Xavi's team sheet at Barcelona and is in good form, scoring four goals in his last nine matches for the Catalans in all competitions.
