Milan are back in action on Wednesday in the Champions League at home against Dinamo Zagreb. Sampdoria are next in action against Spezia on the road next Saturday in Serie A.
Milan display their resolve to secure a 2-1 win over Sampdoria in their Serie A clash, despite playing the majority of the second half with 10 men. The visitors took the lead in the first half through Junior Messias, but were disallowed a second by VAR for an offside call against Olivier Giroud. Rafael Leao was dismissed one minute into the second half for a high boot on Alex Ferrari, and the game appeared to turn in the favour of the hosts when Filip Djuricic levelled the scores. However, Milan were awarded a penalty by VAR after Gonzalo Villar handled in the box and Giroud dispatched the resulting spot-kick. Sampdoria were denied late on by Mike Maignan and the post as the Rossoneri held out for a gutsy victory.

Sampdoria will not feel too bad at the break regarding their performance. They're still in the game after De Ketelaere's goal was disallowed which gave them a reprieve. Sampdoria's results against Lazio and Juventus at home will give them confidence that they can get something out of the game, they just need to take their chance when it comes.
Milan hold a 1-0 lead over Sampdoria at the break in their Serie A clash. Junior Messias fired the Rossoneri ahead in the sixth minute following a quick break. The visitors were denied a second by VAR after Charles De Ketelaere found the net. OIivier Giroud was deemed offside in the build-up, which resulted in the referee overturning his decision. 24' DISALLOWED GOAL! De Ketelaere believes that he has handed Milan a two-goal lead with his first goal for the club. However, it is chalked off by VAR for an offside in the build-up as Giroud interferes with Ferrari as he tries to clear a cross into the box. That deflection travelled to Leao to tee up De Ketelaere for his goal that he scored with his back. After being instructed to the screen at the side of the pitch, the referee overturned his initial decision.
19' Sampdoria are moving the ball nicely enough around the pitch, which will give Giampaolo confidence that his team can break down the Milan defence.

Milan can join Napoli level on points at the top of the table with a victory tonight. Stefano Pioli's men have taken 11 points from their opening five matches of the campaign, starting with an unbeaten record. The Rossoneri put down a statement in the first Milan derby of the season, defeating Inter 3-2 in their last Serie A outing. They will take a lot of confidence from the result in the defence of their crown this term. Pioli's men followed that up with a solid 1-1 draw against Salzburg during the week in the Champions League, highlighting their resolve on the road after going behind.
Sampdoria have endured a poor start to the season after taking only two points from their opening five matches. However, those points did come in their two home matches, putting up spirited displays to earn a share of the spoils against Juventus and Lazio. Their issues have come on the road, including their 2-1 defeat to Verona in their last outing. Marco Giampaolo needs a response from his team tonight.
