Quarter-finals

Commentary

England can now wait to find out who they'll face in their quarter-final next week. Whoever it is, they're going to take some stopping. That's all for now. Goodbye!
England finish top of Group A with a perfect record then. They've won all three of their games and scored 14 goals without reply. No one will want to face them in the knockout rounds. Northern Ireland's Euro 2022 is over, but they'll go home with their heads held high.
England march into the quarter-finals of Euro 2022 looking in fantastic shape! The Lionesses put in another five-star performance against Northern Ireland, who were quite simply no match for them. The Northern Irish tried their best, but conceding before half-time knocked the wind out of them. After that, there was no coming back.
90' FULL-TIME: NORTHERN IRELAND 0-5 ENGLAND
89' Russo should have a hat-trick! Toone plays a great pass for Kelly down the right, who cuts the ball back from the byline for her fellow substitute. Russo's leaning back as she shoots though, and sends her shot ballooning over!
88' England are still trying to add to their lead. Carter's clipped cross is nodded over by Russo.
A. Hutton
J. Nelson
87' Nelson's Euros experience is over too. Hutton comes on for Northern Ireland.
E. Wilson
M. Callaghan
87' Here are those Northern Ireland changes. Callaghan walks off. Wilson takes her place on the pitch.
86' Northern Ireland are about to make a few more changes. These are the last few moments their players will get to play in this tournament.
84' Kelly's high cross from the right is punched away by Burns as far as Mead. Mead takes the ball down and sends it soaring just over the crossbar.
83' Toone leaves the free-kick to Mead. Mead whips her delivery in with pace towards the far post. It's too powerful for her teammates to reach.
82' McKenna wraps her arms around Mead to concede a free-kick just to the left of Northern Ireland's box.
N. Caldwell
R. Furness
80' Northern Ireland substitution. Furness gets the respite of an early rest. Caldwell comes on.
79' Toone is very close to threading the ball through for Kirby, but for the alert Burrows. England are just relentless.
78' Kirby's clipped pass through the middle is cut out. England appeal for handball but no foul's given.
K. Burrows
Own Goal
76' GOAL! NORTHERN IRELAND 0-5 ENGLAND! England aren't done yet. It's a horrible moment for the Northern Ireland substitute Burrows, who slices a tired clearance over the head of Burns.
J. Carter
L. Bronze
74' England substitution. The Chelsea defender Carter replaces Bronze.
72' Vance picks off Greenwood's sweeping pass out wide. Burns' clearance isn't the best though, and Walsh decides to have a punt at goal. It's unsuccessful.
70' England are content to conserve energy and let the Northern Irish pass the ball around, knowing they'll soon win it back. Lo and behold, they eventually do.
68' Northern Ireland enjoy a rare spell on the ball. England have eased off slightly since scoring their fourth goal.
A. Magee
R. Holloway
66' Holloway heads off too. On comes Magee for Northern Ireland.
K. Burrows
L. Rafferty
66' Northern Ireland get to make their changes. Burrows replaces Rafferty first.
64' Burns easily catches Toone's speculative shot from the edge of the box. The Northern Irish goalkeeper hasn't done badly in her side's three games.
62' Northern Ireland are getting their first substitutes ready to come on. They're surely beaten at this point, so they might as well give a few more of their players a runout.
C. Kelly
L. Hemp
60' Hemp heads off. Kelly gets to enjoy the last half hour of this match on the pitch for England.
60' Toone strikes over from next to the D. England are preparing another substitution. It looks like the Manchester City forward Kelly will come on.
58' Toone skips through the centre of midfield and goes for the bottom right corner from range. She's not too far from finding it either.
57' Mead cuts inside on her favoured right foot and shoots from the edge of the box. McFadden gets herself in the way.
55' Holloway gets a vital touch to prevent Mead from giving Burns more to do in Northern Ireland's goal. England have a corner instead. They're starting to run rampant now.
E. Toone
Assist
53' Toone's throughball was brilliant, but the way Russo took it was even better. White might not be starting up front for England in their next game if Russo keeps this up!
A. Russo
Goal
53' GOAL! NORTHERN IRELAND 0-4 ENGLAND! Russo bags her second of the game, and it might be the best goal yet! England's substitute striker takes Toone's pass wonderfully on the turn and sweeps the ball into the bottom left corner.
52' England may have taken a few players off but they look just as hungry for goals as they did in the first half. Northern Ireland had better be careful.
50' England have become the first team to score 12 goals in the group stage of a European Women's Championship. The records keep tumbling for Wiegman's side.
B. Mead
Assist
48' Mead's delivery there was typically brilliant. She could end up player of the tournament if she carries on like this.
A. Russo
Goal
48' GOAL! NORTHERN IRELAND 0-3 ENGLAND! Russo gets her name on the scoresheet after just a few minutes on the pitch! She meets Mead's great cross with a powerful header that Burns has no chance of reaching.
47' Northern Ireland get the second half started. If they can avoid conceding too many more goals, they'll be content with that.
E. Toone
G. Stanway
46' Stanway is the last England player to make way for now. Toone is her replacement.
A. Greenwood
M. Bright
46' Bright goes off. Greenwood takes her place at the heart of England's defence.
A. Russo
E. White
46' England wisely decide to rest a few players with their job here half-done. They're making three half-time changes. Russo takes White's place up front first.
England had 79 per cent possession in that first half, racking up 17 shots to Northern Ireland's three. Northern Ireland are doing all they can to fend their opponents off, but you wouldn't bet against England extending their lead as the underdogs start to tire.
Northern Ireland are doing a better job of resisting England than Norway did, at least. The Northern Irish made the Lionesses wait for 40 minutes for their opening goal, a wonderful strike by Kirby. Mead followed it up a few minutes later. Few teams would be able to handle this England side at the moment.
45' + 4' HALF-TIME: NORTHERN IRELAND 0-2 ENGLAND
45' + 3' McFadden carries the ball away from her own box and is tripped by Daly. Northern Ireland gratefully accept the free-kick.
45' + 1' We'll have four more minutes before half-time. Callaghan has a speculative pop at goal blocked.
45' That's Mead's fifth goal in three matches at Euro 2022. She joins White and Jodie Taylor as the third player to score five goals at a major tournament for England. Another England goal would break Germany's record of 11 goals scored in the group stage, set in 2001.
B. Mead
Goal
44' GOAL! NORTHERN IRELAND 0-2 ENGLAND! The Northern Irish clear the corner, but England keep the pressure on. Mead picks up the ball inside the box, switches it onto her left foot, and swipes it into the bottom left corner via a deflection off Furness.
43' Rafferty gets herself in the way of Stanway's effort to hand England another corner.
42' No team has ever scored 10+ goals in the group stage of this tournament without conceding. That's another record England will break at the moment.
F. Kirby
Goal
40' GOAL! NORTHERN IRELAND 0-1 ENGLAND! It's been coming. Hemp's left-footed shot is charged down. The rebound lands to Kirby, who coolly sweeps the ball into the net from outside the box!
39' Hemp's lovely first-time ball finds Kirby to the left of the box. Kirby picks out Stanway whose scuffed shot is cleared off the line by Holloway! Bright glances wide from the resulting corner.
38' Norway have gone 1-0 down against Austria. Austria will be joining England in the quarter-finals, and Norway will be going out in the group stage as things stand.
37' Bright takes aim once again from range. This attempt doesn't threaten Burns.
35' The excellent Burns is first to the corner. Now it's Northern Ireland's turn to attack. Kirsty McGuinness plays the ball down the line for Wade, who's offside.
34' Kirsty McGuinness doesn't let Bronze past her and elects to concede a corner instead. Northern Ireland are holding their own at the moment.
33' Kirby's teasing ball over the top is anticipated well by Burns, who snaffles it up.
31' Mead floats the free-kick into the box, and Bronze gets across her marker to head off-target! Bronze will be disappointed not to have found the back of the net.
30' England keep the ball and bide their time. Mead gets caught late by Vance. England get a free-kick which Mead will take.
28' Stanway drifts into the sweet spot between centre-back and left-back and hooks the ball well wide on the turn.
27' Burns is back on her feet and looks fine to continue. That'll be a relief for Northern Ireland, who've needed her.
26' Burns has a problem and is down receiving treatment. Northern Ireland take the opportunity to grab some drinks and regroup.
25' White makes a fantastic curved run onto Bronze's throughball. The England forward draws Burns off her line and pokes towards goal, only to watch the ball roll agonisingly wide of the left-hand post!
24' Daly's scuffed shot is cleared. Wade tries to counter for Northern Ireland but doesn't have many options.
23' Bronze's deep cross is kept alive by Mead and passed on to Kirby. Bright goes for goal from distance. Burns dives to her right to keep the shot out. England get a corner.
21' Mead makes a run too early and is flagged offside. England have been on top but Northern England have defended well so far.
20' Bright sweeps the ball wide left to Mead, who can't get past McKenna. Mead appeals for a foul but it's a hopeful appeal at best.
19' Burns races off her line to sweep up a dangerous England throughball down their right.
17' Stanway and Kirby's efforts are blocked, and Burns ends up coming away with the ball. England have had 81 per cent possession of it so far.
16' Hemp's left-footed corner comes in. Mead's close-range effort is blocked, and England will get another crack of the whip.
15' Stanway shoots first time from the right of the box, forcing Burns to spill the ball. England end up winning another corner.
14' Holloway plays a perfectly weighted pass through the middle for Wade who can't get a shot away at the end of it. Northern Ireland won't get many better chances than that to score.
13' Wade gets an effort on target that Burns does well to keep out. It's one-way traffic towards Northern Ireland's goal as expected at the moment.
11' Furness does well to take the sting out of Stanway's drive from distance, allowing Burns to safely gather it.
9' Stanway skips past Vance to reach the byline and fizz a low cross-cum-shot towards the near post. The shot's deflected out for an England corner, which Northern Ireland clear.
7' NO PENALTY FOR ENGLAND! The referee correctly overrules her initial decision. Mead did handle Kirsty McGuinness's hooked clearance before Stanway pulled the trigger.
5' Northern Ireland are rather wisely sitting deep, but they're still in trouble. England put pressure on and Mead fires off-target before accidentally handling a clearance. Stanway blasts the rebound into Rafferty's midriff. The referee points straight to the spot! VAR watches the passage of play back...
3' Kirby picks out Bronze just outside the box. Bronze eschews the chance to cross and passes back to Bright, who floats a dangerous ball into the box. Burns punches it away.
1' Northern Ireland make a positive start! Wade skips in behind the England defence and bears down on goal. She shoots from the right of the box. Earps pushes the shot aside for Daly to clear.
1' England, playing all in white, get things underway! Northern Ireland are in all green.
England shouldn't have any difficulty here, given how they handled Norway. The Lionesses have won all 11 of their matches against Northern Ireland in all competitions by an aggregate score of 59-3. The Northern Irish haven't scored against England in their last seven meetings, going back to an 8-1 defeat in 1985.
England stick with the same 11 that demolished Norway in their last game. Mead nabbed a hat-trick in that match. With four goals so far at this tournament, she's already in the running for the Golden Boot. If she scores again here, she'll become just the third Lioness to score five times at a major tournament.
Kenny Shiels makes one change to his team from their defeat by Austria. Rafferty replaces McCarron in the starting 11.
SUBS: Hannah Hampton, Ellie Roebuck, Alex Greenwood, Jessica Carter, Jill Scott, Nikita Parris, Chloe Kelly, Bethany England, Ella Toone, Lotte Wubben-Moy, Alessia Russo.
ENGLAND (4-2-3-1): Mary Earps; Lucy Bronze, Millie Bright, Leah Williamson, Rachel Daly; Georgia Stanway, Keira Walsh; Beth Mead, Fran Kirby, Lauren Hemp; Ellen White.
SUBS: Becky Flaherty, Shannon Turner, Ashley Hutton, Chloe McCarron, Kelsie Burrows, Nadene Caldwell, Louise McDaniel, Emily Wilson, Joely Andrews, Caitlin McGuinness, Abbie Magee.
NORTHERN IRELAND (4-4-2): Jacqueline Burns; Rebecca McKenna, Julie Nelson, Sarah Robson, Demi Vance; Laura Rafferty, Marissa Callaghan, Rachel Furness, Rebecca Holloway; Lauren Wade, Kirsty McGuinness.
England are already confirmed winners of Group A, having racked up a historic 8-0 win over Norway in their last match. You'd think they'd be tempted to take it easy with their place in the last eight already secure, but Sarina Wiegman's Lionesses are not the types to take their foot off the pedal.
Northern Ireland's 2-0 loss to Austria last time out means they have only pride to play for in their final Group A game. The Green and White Army's first appearance at a major tournament may have been short, but no matter what happens here they'll go home heroes of their nation's women's game.
