Commentary

That's all from Brighton on a remarkable day at the Euros, so thank you for joining us and goodbye!
Already into the quarter-finals, having racked up an eighth straight win, England next take on neighbours Northern Ireland on Friday. Meanwhile, Norway must pick themselves up off the floor to contest a decider for second spot in Group A against Austria.
England qualify for the knockout stages in the most outrageous style, as they shredded a talented Norway side with some superb football in both halves - particularly their spectacular six-goal salvo before the break. Mead was the key figure in exploiting the Norwegians' defensive deficiencies, helping herself to a merited hat-trick, and the Lionesses were relentless throughout - even their second-half substitutes shone. With this showing, the hosts have certainly confirmed themselves as potential tournament winners.
90' + 4' FULL-TIME: ENGLAND 8-0 NORWAY
90' + 2' Receiving the ball from Bronze, Scott turns and shoots wide of the far post with her attempt.
90' Three added minutes have been indicated by the officials, which Norway surely hope will evaporate as soon as possible - they can't wait for this game to end.
88' From the free-kick opportunity, less than 20 yards from goal, Greenwood can't get her attempt to dip enough and it sails over the crossbar.
F. Maanum
Yellow Card
Norway
87' Maanum lets her frustration get the better of her, as she clatters Toone to the turf just outside the area, earning a yellow card. England have a free-kick in an inviting position to shoot.
85' JUST OVER! A speculative effort from outside the box almost brings about a consolation goal for Norway, as Maanum shoots firmly over the crossbar; troubling the underworked Earps.
E. Terland
G. Reiten
Norway
84' Another underwhelming Norway forward is withdrawn, with Reiten making way for Terland.
83' CLOSE! Russo harries the chastened figure of Mjelde, running past her counterpart with ease, then plays the ball in for Toone, who sends a shot over the crossbar from close range.
B. Mead
Goal
England
81' MEAD HAS A HAT-TRICK! A third strike for the Arsenal forward puts England 8-0 up in this remarkable match, as she reacts first when Pettersen can only palm a heavily deflected shot into the air; prodding home her hat-trick goal!
J. Scott
G. Stanway
England
80' Stanway is substituted, and veteran campaigner Scott replaces her for the final few minutes.
79' Despite all the changes in personnel on both sides, England are still the dominant force, and they push forward in search of an eighth goal. Norway have managed only a single shot on target.
C. Bizet
Yellow Card
Norway
77' After tangling with Williamson in midfield, Bizet is booked soon after coming on.
A. Eikeland
C. Hansen
Norway
75' The similarly anonymous Graham Hansen departs, too, with Eikeland taking her place.
C. Bizet
A. Hegerberg
Norway
75' A miserable match for Hegerberg ends, as Bizet replaces her for the last 15 minutes.
75' OFF THE BAR! Substitute Greenwood thumps a 20-yard drive off the goalframe, after being played in by Toone, and the ball bounces off the bar and clear of danger. That was a superb attempt from the full-back.
73' CLOSE! England spurn a great chance for their eighth goal, as Russo and Mead both miss out from close range! It took some brave blocks and a bit of luck for Norway to survive there!
72' Cutting inside from the right, Bronze lays the ball into the path of Stanway, who is again positioned on the edge of Norway's box, but the latter's shot lacks power and is gathered centrally by Pettersen.
C. Kelly
L. Hemp
England
70' Another bright display by Hemp is brought to an early end, as Kelly comes on for the final 20 minutes.
68' The lively Toone shoots straight at Pettersen, who makes a routine save without too much trouble.
L. Bronze
Assist
England
66' An excellent cross by Bronze picked out Russo in the centre of the box to score England's seventh.
A. Russo
Goal
England
66' SEVEN UP FOR ENGLAND! Russo heads home England's latest strike, as she leaps above fellow substitute Bergsvand to power the ball past Pettersen! Bronze was the provider, with a pinpoint cross, and the Lionesses lead 7-0!
63' Making another contribution since arriving from the bench, Toone tees up Stanway 20 yards out from goal, but the England midfielder slashes across her hurried effort and the ball sails wide of the left-hand post. The hosts are not letting up here!
61' Mead almost latches onto Toone's delightful cross-field ball at the back post, but is just inches away from making the contact that would surely have resulted in a seventh goal - and Mead's hat-trick.
F. Maanum
V. Bøe Risa
Norway
59' Norway opt to switch their personnel in midfield, as Risa is replaced by Maanum.
E. Toone
F. Kirby
England
58' England's third substitution sees Kirby make way for Toone.
A. Greenwood
R. Daly
England
57' Wiegman makes a change at full-back, as Daly is replaced by Greenwood.
A. Russo
E. White
England
57' With two goals to her name today, White is withdrawn, and Russo will come on up front.
57' White fires wide following Mead's free-kick, and that may well be the former's last contribution to this match.
J. Blakstad
Yellow Card
Norway
56' For bringing down Mead, out on the right, Blakstad is shown the game's first yellow card.
53' Mead steers an effort off target from inside the Norway area, missing out on a chance to bag her hat-trick.
52' It has now been over 30 minutes since Norway last attempted a shot at goal, and their renowned attacking stars have hardly had a kick so far today.
51' Hemp's free-kick from the right is headed clear deep inside the Norway area, after Blakstad had brought down Mead.
49' Having been badly exposed in the first half, it seems that Norway have switched to five at the back in an effort to stem the flow of England goals.
47' A precise Stanway cross from the right picks out Hemp inside the box, but she miscontrols with her first touch and the chance is lost.
G. Bergsvand
K. Sævik
Norway
46' During the interval, Saevik has been withdrawn for the more defensive option of Bergsvand.
46' We are back under way in Brighton, and Norway have made a half-time change.
White and Mead will be seeking another goal to complete their hat-tricks during the second half, but will Wiegman withdraw either, or both, with the points already secured? Norway's wide players, meanwhile, must concentrate on damage control after their awful performance in the opening 45 minutes.
A hardly plausible first half sees England leading by six goals at the interval, as Norway crumbled after conceding a soft penalty early on and the hosts tore into them mercilessly. Time and again, the Lionesses exploited acres of space down the right side, with Mead in irrepressible form, and they are completely out of sight in this contest to decide the destiny of Group A. Surely the Norwegians will have to reshuffle and renew their resolve to avoid conceding more after the break.
45' + 2' HALF-TIME: ENGLAND 6-0 NORWAY
45' Two minutes of stoppage time are indicated, as Norway aim to crawl over the line towards half-time and recover some dignity after the interval.
43' Today's match has brought about the first time in European Championship history that any nation has scored six times before the break.
F. Kirby
Assist
England
41' A second successive assist for Kirby, as she crosses with pace along the six-yard box; picking out White at the back post.
E. White
Goal
England
41' ENGLAND HAVE SIX! The Lionesses are in dreamland, as their advantage grows again! Kirby is the creator, as she zips along the exposed right flank and whips a ball across the six-yard box for White to turn the ball home form close range. England 6-0 Norway!
F. Kirby
Assist
England
38' Kirby played the final ball to Mead, who then beat three players with ease before firing home the fifth goal.
B. Mead
Goal
England
38' MEAD MAKES IT FIVE! Another moment of magic from Mead extends England's scarcely believable lead, as she jinks in from the right to curl an excellent effort into the corner, leaving Pettersen stranded. 5-0 to England!
36' Even before today's match, Mead, who scored against Austria last week, had been directly involved in 25 goals for England under Sarina Wiegman (15 goals, 10 assists) - seven more than any other player in this period.
L. Hemp
Assist
England
34' Capitalising on some uncertain Norway defending out on the left, Hemp slings in a brilliant ball for Mead to turn home with a header.
B. Mead
Goal
England
34' THE LIONESSES LEAD BY FOUR! Incredibly, England ruthlessly exploit their opponents' defensive woes once again, as Mead diverts a perfectly placed header into the net form Hemp's right-wing cross. Norway are creating their own problems with such anxiety at the back, but the hosts are rampant in exploiting it: 4-0!
32' SHARP SAVE! Pettersen prevents England snaffling a fourth goal before half-time, as she dives low to her left; keeping out White's shot towards the bottom corner! Great stop!
30' JUST WIDE! The irrepressible Mead latches onto a loose ball in the area, but fires her shot narrowly wide of the left-hand post from 15 yards. England are running riot here, and Norway's defence is falling to pieces!
E. White
Goal
England
29' ENGLAND HAVE A THIRD! Lingering on the ball outside her own area, Thorisdottir is dispossessed by White, who goes on to confidently stride into the box and strike the ball below the desperate grasp of Pettersen. The ball nestles in the back of the net, and England lead 3-0!
26' CLOSE! Another excellent run and cross by Mead opens up the Norway defence again, but White prods her volley just over the top of the goalframe on the stretch.
24' Daly is back on her feet and is passed fit to rejoin the fray, as the action resumes.
23' The game comes to a temporary halt, as Daly is down on the turf nursing an apparent ankle injury. She receives some treatment and looks set to continue her role in England's back four.
21' From the left, Blakstad crosses to the far post for Saevik, but the latter's effort is off target; leaving Earps untroubled.
19' From the second of successive corners, Graham Hansen gets a shot away but sees it blocked by White. Norway seem to be recovering from their double blow early on.
17' England continue to dominate, as Mead's corner ultimately finds Hemp, who turns the ball goalwards. However, Pettersen makes a routine save.
B. Mead
Assist
England
15' A thrusting sprint down the right opened up space for Mead to exploit, and facing little challenge in the Norway area, she squared the ball for Hemp to score.
L. Hemp
Goal
England
15' ENGLAND GO TWO UP! Hemp's goal stands, after the VAR confirms she was onside at the back post as she turns home Mead's low cross, which left the Norway defence static. What a start for England: 2-0!
15' ENGLAND GOAL? Hemp taps in at the back post, following a powerful run down the right side of the area by Mead, but the flag immediately goes up for offside! The VAR will review this - will the goal be given?
14' CLOSE! A slick move down the right sees Mead and Stanway combine smartly, but a low ball across the box just eludes Hemp, at full stretch. England are totally on top now!
G. Stanway
Penalty Goal
England
12' ENGLAND LEAD! The tournament hosts go a goal in front already, as Stanway slams a powerful penalty kick straight into the top-left corner. Pettersen had absolutely no chance, and it's England 1-0 Norway!
10' PENALTY! Just inside the box, White tumbles to the turf under pressure from Thorisdottir, and the referee signals towards the spot! England have an early chance to open the scoring at the Amex!
9' This is the first ever meeting between England and Norway in the European Championship finals, but today's hosts have won five of their last eight matches against the Norwegians in all competitions. The Lionesses lost the nations' most recent meeting in September 2019.
7' Norway captain Mjelde manages to scramble the ball away after White seeks to slip inside the area from the left flank, as England start to push forward for the first time.
5' Just failing to keep the ball in play, in an advanced position on the left, Hemp misses out on a good opportunity to create England's first chance.
3' Norway have made a bright start to the match, keeping their hosts pinned inside their own half with some rapid closing down.
1' We are under way in Brighton!
The players are out on the pitch, and having observed the national anthems, kick-off in this Group A contest is now just moments away!
Norway, by contrast, make three changes to their team today, including Manchester United midfielder Risa replacing Arsenal's Maanum, despite the latter's goal against Northern Ireland. Chelsea duo Mjelde and Reiten start again, with Barcelona’s Graham Hansen and former Ballon d’Or winner Hederberg featuring up front.
Following their opening day win, England name an unchanged starting side today, with Stanway partnering Walsh in midfield. Despite her early withdrawal last week, Kirby retains her place in support of White, who leads the hosts' line up front.

Having raced into a three-goal lead within the first half-hour of their opener, Norway went on to post a 4-1 win over Northern Ireland last Thursday, racking up their sixth consecutive victory. Martin Sjogren's side have scored at least twice in each of those six successes, setting them up for today's much-anticipated Group A showdown. Though Austria picked up three points earlier today, the winners will almost certainly finish top and go on to face the runners-up from Group B - most likely either Germany or Spain.
After beating Austria in Euro 2022's opening match, in front of the largest crowd in Women's European Championship history, England now seek to secure a quarter-final place today. Last Wednesday's win represented the Lionesses' seventh straight victory - extending their unbeaten run to 15 games under head coach Sarina Wiegman. Another in Brighton would see the tournament hosts move top of Group A and guarantee a spot in the final eight.
Hello and welcome to live coverage of today's Euro 2022 Group A clash between England and Norway, at the Amex Stadium!
