Commentary

That's all from us, we'll see you for the next one. Until then though, goodbye!
Bayern top Group C with six points from six available after two games, and following convincing 2-0 victories over their two closest challengers, it'll be some task to unseat them from their perch at the top of the ladder. Barca drop to second, ahead of Inter on goal difference, but it wasn't a happy return to the Allianz for Lewandowski, snuffed out at every turn by Upamecano. Barca did look good in spells, particularly in the first half, but will need to improve markedly if they're to be considered serious European challengers.
Whilst Bayern's attack was exemplary, their defence kept Barca at arm's length for the vast majority of the second half. This was personified by Dayot Upamecano's performance, which saw him win the ball seven times, via six clearances, five interceptions, two tackles and a block, with the French international winning 71.4 per cent of his duels and completing 100 per cent of passes in Barca's half. Rock.
It's all over, and what a stroll in the park that turned out to be for Bayern. The sucker punch of two goals in four minutes right after half-time, left Barcelona reeling and unable to get a foothold back in the game. From there, Bayern controlled every aspect of the play, with Barca only able to create the odd chance here and there, and Bayern pressed on to cruise to a victory which sends them to the top of Group C!
90' + 4' FULL-TIME: BAYERN MUNICH 2-0 BARCELONA.
90' + 4' SAVED!!! Alonso rises above a crowd of players to head towards the back post, but Neuer's across to deal with it, and does so with ease!
90' + 3' Dembele's cross deflects off a crowd of Bayern defenders before falling at the feet of De Jong, but Kimmich hoofs it behind for a Barca corner before the substitute can shoot!
90' + 2' Tel cuts inside past Alonso and approaches the edge of the box. He attempts a left-footed shot, but sends the ball swerving wildly away from the goal and into the stands!
90' + 1' We're into three minutes of added time to close out this game.
90' CHANCE!!! Kounde's throw is flicked on forward by Lewandowski, and Torres races through to latch onto the ball. He bears down on goal but is forced wide by Hernandez, and cuts the ball back to no-one rather than shooting!!!
88' Forward come Bayern on the break and Tel crosses from the right, but De Jong's not taking any chances and puts the ball over and out for a corner.
87' WIDE!!! Dembele's ball in isn't dealt with properly by Mazraoui, and Fati runs across him to the other side of the box. He can't find space too shoot, but Torres does, firing off a low shot that creeps just wide of the far post!
86' De Jong's ball over the top is met by Fati, who looks to control it off his chest but is beaten to the second ball by Mazraoui, and Upamecano clears again!
84' Upamecano looks to come forward after receiving a backpass from Gravenberch, but is clipped late by Lewandowski and wins a free-kick inside the Barca half.
82' De Jong slips over on the edge of his own box, almost giving Tel a shooting chance, but Garcia intervenes to recover the ball and Barca survive.
F. Kessie
Sergio Busquets
Barcelona
80' The yellow-carded Busquets also comes off, and Franck Kessie, who scored Barca's opener in the 5-1 win over Plzen, will replace him in defensive midfield.
Ansu Fati
O. Dembélé
Barcelona
80' Dembele's next off for Barca, with Xavi hoping Ansu Fati's introduction can spark a late comeback for his side.
R. Gravenberch
J. Musiala
Bayern München
80' Musiala is also withdrawn, replaced by summer signing Ryan Gravenberch in midfield.
M. Tel
L. Sané
Bayern München
79' Sane's off after causing Barca problems all game long, and Mathys Tel comes on to see out the last 10 minutes.
79' Lewandowski takes the free-kick, but it's a woeful effort that flies straight into the wall, and Bayern deal with the threat!
78' Hernandez meets Lewandowski again, this time to foul him on the edge of the box. He sends his former teammate flying too, and is lucky to avoid a booking.
77' Lewandowski is found in the box with his back to goal, but great strength from Hernandez prevents the former Bayern forward from turning to shoot, and the hosts clear their lines!
76' After Torres goes down in the box to no avail, Bayern look to counter through Mazraoui, but Busquets cuts out a pass before being caught late by the full-back and winning his side a free-kick!
75' Dembele finds Pedri in a lot of space down the left, and he in turn aims for Lewandowski, but Upamecano is there once again to clear it and another Barca attack ends thanks to him!
J. Kimmich
Yellow Card
Bayern München
74' A Bayern attack breaks down and the visitors attempt to break away via De Jong. Kimmich tugs at his shirt to hold him back, but is soon caught and booked by the referee.
72' Barca have looked shell-shocked since that quick double-blow delivered by Hernandez and Sane, and their crisp, incisive attacks have all but dried up. It might be Bayern defending in greater numbers given they're 2-0 up, but either way, Barca's attack looks nowhere near as potent as it did in the first half.
Eric García
A. Christensen
Barcelona
70' Barca also make a change, with Christensen brought off for Eric Garcia in the back four.
S. Gnabry
S. Mané
Bayern München
70' Mane's the next off for Bayern having led the line with aplomb, and he's replaced by Serge Gnabry.
69' OVER!!! Davies surges into the box before finding Musiala, who releases a clever first-time pass on the turn to Muller. He cuts onto his right foot and shoots, but sends it over the crossbar!
68' Dembele races up the other end for Barca, cutting inside and gliding over several tackles before feeding Pedri, but Upamecano gets across to clear for the hosts!
68' BLOCKED!!! Bayern come forward with a free-kick advantage and Davies lays the ball off to Goretzka. He takes a touch before shooting, but Christensen gets in the way to block it clear!!!
66' SAVED!!! De Jong plays in Lewandowski to shoot, but pressure from Upamecano forces an off-balance shot from a tight angle, which Neuer can easily hold!
64' Torres brings down a wide aerial ball and crosses back in for Lewandowski, but he can't get any control over his header and puts it over the bar!
63' WIDE!!! How has he missed that!!! Eccentric, tiki-taka like play between Pedri and Lewandowski sees the former put through on goal with time to shoot, but with Neuer racing out, he snatches at his shot and pulls it wide!!
61' WIDE!!! Goretzka wins the ball off Torres in midfield and feeds Musiala, who races forward before shooting from the edge of the box, and missing wide to the right by mere inches!!
Ferran Torres
Raphinha
Barcelona
61' Raphinha's gone close a few times for Barca and could well have opened the scoring before Bayern's two-goal blur occurred, but he'll go no further as he comes off for Ferran Torres.
F. de Jong
Gavi
Barcelona
61' Barca have been overrun in midfield so far in the second half, and Xavi responds by bringing on Frenkie de Jong in place of Gavi.
60' OVER!!! Musiala looks to create space to shoot, before finding Sane wide to his right. He gets the ball back off the goalscorer, but sends a first-time effort miles over the bar!
59' Kimmich's delivery is dealt with by Ter Stegen this time, who punches clear. Mazraoui looks to cross back in, but Dembele blocks it behind for another corner.
58' Bayern surge into open space once again as Sane frees up Mane, but Araujo gets across to block him off and concede a corner.
56' Sane has now been directly involved in 14 goals in his last 11 Champions League starts, with eight goals and six assists for Bayern. Since the start of 2020-21, Sane leads the way for goals (10) and assists (six) in the Champions League for the club amongst the current squad.
J. Musiala
Assist
Bayern München
54' Every time Musiala and Sane have linked up, Bayern have looked a wholly different level of dangerous. The two wingers both came centrally there to link up again, and the results of it may well have put this game beyond Barca's reach.
L. Sané
Goal
Bayern München
54' GOOOOAAAAALLLL!!!!! Bayern double their lead as quick as a flash!!! Musiala turns and runs at the defence, before putting Sane through the smallest of holes in the Barca backline. He bursts right through it, before knocking it past Ter Stegen, whose faint touch results in the ball rolling slowly over the line despite Kounde racing back for it!!! 2-0 in four minutes, and Bayern are firmly in control of this one now!!
52' Back come Bayern for seconds as Musiala feeds Muller in space centrally. He thinks Kimmich is with him, but his lay-off is intercepted by Gavi!
J. Kimmich
Assist
Bayern München
50' What a delivery from Kimmich, who took every Barcelona defender out of the picture and found Hernandez in exactly the right place!
L. Hernández
Goal
Bayern München
50' GOOOOAAAALLLL!!!! The home side strike first!!! Kimmich's swirling corner towards the front post is misjudged by Raphinha, who runs to attack the ball and misses it, leaving Hernandez to nod into the back of the net!!! 1-0 to the hosts, and Barca are going to throw everything they've got at Bayern now!
50' SAVED!!!! Sane cuts inside and looks to shoot, but instead finds Mane. The ball travels to him, then Muller, then Kimmich, but a deflection brings it back to Goretzka, whose thumping effort from 20 yards is parried wide by Ter Stegen!
Sergio Busquets
Yellow Card
Barcelona
48' Busquets arrives late and catches the heels of Musiala. He's not happy with the decision and tells the referee as much, and is soon met with a yellow card.
48' Bayern manager Julian Nagelsmann has won both of his previous meetings with Barcelona in the Champions League, winning both games in the group stage last term. Should Nagelsmann lead his side to a victory in this game, he would be the first manager to win his first three matches against Barcelona in the competition.
46' WIDE!!! Straight from kick-off, Pedri feeds Raphinha, who drifts inside before firing a shot from the edge of the box, which beats Neuer before flying just wide of his left post!!!
46' Bayern kick off the second half, and we're back underway at Allianz Arena!
L. Goretzka
M. Sabitzer
Bayern München
46' Bayern make a half-time change, bringing off Sabitzer for Leon Goretzka.
The teams re-enter the pitch for the second half, and we're all ready to see more twists and turns over the next 45 minutes!
Lewandowski's had five efforts at goal so far, seeing one saved, two blocked, and another he really should've scored fly over the bar. He's also had seven touches in the Bayern box, made one key pass, and won half of his game-high four aerial duels. Return.
What a half of football!!! In a dream of a game for the neutral, we've seen everything we could've hoped for, except goals!! Both sides have had copious chances in a very end-to-end contest, albeit neither side has really come that close to scoring. Neuer has been forced into saves from Pedri and Lewandowski. It's absolutely enthralling football, and here's hoping we see the quality cranked up even further in the second half!
45' + 1' HALF-TIME: BAYERN MUNICH 0-0 BARCELONA.
45' + 1' We're into a minute's worth of added time at the end of the first half.
45' Bayern break at speed once again as Mane turns Gavi before finding Sane on the run. He wants to cut back onto his left as he enters the box, but is prevented from doing so and Christensen manages to force it out off the Bayern forward for a goal kick!
43' A long clearance picks out Sane in space down the right, and he finds Musiala. He looks to lay it off for Mane to hit, but Busquets intervenes to cut out the pass and come away with it for Barcelona!
43' WHAT A BLOCK!!! Pedri glides forward untouched in midfield, before finding Lewandowski unmarked in the box. He finds him, but just as the striker pulls the trigger, Mazraoui races across to block his effort with a beauty of a challenge!!!
42' Bayern have won eight of their 11 Champions League games against Barcelona, including each of the last four in a row. Against no side have they won more games, also winning eight against Real Madrid.
40' CHANCE!!! Musiala does so, so well to turn Alonso and cross from the byline. He aims his cross to the front post, but Mane and Muller get in each other's way and collide, causing the ball to spill out and go behind!!!
39' Raphinha and Dembele appear to have swapped wings, with Dembele coming back frequently on the right to assist Kounde in defence. It's been effective too, with both Mane and Musiala seeing opportunities snuffed out by the pair.
37' Barcelona won 5-1 on MD1 against Plzen, scoring more in that match than they’d managed in their previous nine Champions League games combined. They had 11 shots on target, the joint most of any side on MD1 along with Bayern.
35' Pedri and Kimmich battle for the ball in midfield, with the Barca youngster forced backwards with the ball, and eventually to the ground, with the Bayern man penalised.
34' Kounde comes forward down the right and finds Dembele, who despite having Gavi steaming into space ahead of him, looks to cut inside onto his left and loses the ball!
32' Bayern Munich have won 35 of their last 37 home games in the Champions League group stage, with the only exceptions a 3-2 defeat to Man City in December 2013 and 1-1 draw with Ajax in October 2018. Fortress Allianz.
30' WIDE!!! Sane steps inside three and beats as many challenges before finding Sabitzer, who curls a first-time effort around the wrong side of the post!
29' Alonso brings the ball out brilliantly and finds Gavi, who in turn puts Lewandowski through on goal with Hernandez giving chase. Raphinha's arriving on the right, and Lewandowski looks for him, but Davies gets back to cut out the pass for Bayern!
28' Musiala gets away from Busquets in the box, before firing the ball across goal, but Mane can't get there before Kounde clears!
27' Forward come Bayern, as Sane feeds Mane. He finds Musiala in space across the box, who in turn has Mazraoui to his outside. He finds him, but the substitute's low cross is held by Ter Stegen at his near post!
26' WIDE!!! Raphinha cuts inside to find Lewandowski on the edge of the box. The striker tees him back up to shoot, and Raphinha blasts a first-time shot just inches wide of the post from 18 yards!!
24' Dembele loses out to Kimmich in midfield, who releases Mane. He looks to run into space down the left, but Gavi follows him all the way and hauls him down for a free-kick.
23' Barcelona’s eight Champions League defeats against Bayern Munich are twice as many as they have lost against any other opponent.
N. Mazraoui
B. Pavard
Bayern München
21' Pavard's picked up a knock to the thigh, which forces him off injured to be replaced by Noussair Mazraoui.
21' SAVED!!!! Alonso floats a cross to the back post, where Lewandowski arrives late to head for goal, but Neuer gets in the way of it and parries! It's not clear though, and Raphinha cuts inside from the right, curling an effort just around the far post!!
M. Sabitzer
Yellow Card
Bayern München
19' Busquets and Sabitzer slide in for a loose ball, but the Bayern midfielder loses out and only connects with the leg of the Barca captain. He's penalised and booked by the referee, receiving the game's first yellow card.
18' OVER!!!! What a chance!!! Dembele comes forward on the break for Barca before finding Gavi with a reverse pass to his left. He in turn puts Lewandowski one-on-one with Neuer, but the striker can only blaze over the bar from close range!! He's nestled the ball in that net more than enough times to have scored that!!
16' Good play from Davies up the left sees him feed Mane in the box, but the forward's turn sees the ball stolen from under his foot by Araujo and Raphinha comes away with it!
15' OVER!!! The corner is headed to the edge of the box, where Gavi chests it up before firing a swirling volley that flies just over the bar!
14' CHANCE!!! A poor Neuer kick finds only his old teammate Lewandowski on the edge of the Bayern box, but Upamecano does superbly to force him wide and prevent the shot, conceding a corner in the process!
13' Raphinha cuts inside and drills an incisive pass into the box, but Lewandowski slips before he can bring the ball under control and Pedri is crowded out!
11' Bayern break quickly as Sane surges down the right. He cuts inside Alonso and shoots, but the left-back sticks out a leg to block the effort wide!!
10' OVER!!! Raphinha appears to have lost out to Davies, but outmuscles the Canadian to win the ball back, and Gavi crosses in from the byline. Lewandowski's at the back post, but can only head over under pressure from Upamecano!
9' SAVED!!!! Lewandowski dispossesses Sabitzer inside the Bayern box and Raphinha finds Gavi. He feeds Pedri, who jinks past Pavard before shooting, and draws a good save from the legs of Neuer!
9' Davies does brilliantly to dispossess Kounde and get away from Raphinha as he races down the left flank. He passes centrally to Muller, who rather than shooting picks out Sane, but it's a poor pass and Bayern's attack slows and is cut out!!
7' CHANCE!!! Mane steps beyond Kounde and puts Musiala into shooting space, but a poor first touch from the attacker allows Alonso to slide in and clear!
5' Gavi's all over Hernandez, with his eager pressing trapping the Bayern defender on the edge of his own box, but he's able to get the ball back to Neuer, who clears under pressure from three more Barca forwards!
4' Bayern Munich have won all four of their Champions League group stage matches against Barcelona, winning twice in seasons 1998-99 and 2021-22. The Spanish side have not lost more than twice against any other opponent in the group stages of the competition.
3' A heavy touch from Busquets allows Mane to nip in and feed Musiala, but he can't pick out a pass on the edge of the box and the visitors recover!
2' A loose pass in midfield allows Kimmich to play a ball forward for Musiala to chase, but Christensen puts it back to Ter Stegen before the Bayern winger can get near it.
1' Lewandowski kicks off in the middle of the Allianz Arena pitch he once called home, and we are off and running in Bavaria!
The teams are out on the pitch with the Champions League anthem roaring aloud, and strap in for what should be one hell of a game!
Lewandowski’s hat-trick against Plzen was perfect preparation for this mouth-watering clash, and there was never any question over him starting against his former employers. He came on to score and make two assists against Cadiz in Barca’s last league game, and is flanked up front by Raphinha, as well as Ousmane Dembele, who scored the last goal in the 4-0 rout of Cadiz.
Leroy Sane was enigmatic in Bayern’s 2-0 win at the San Siro, scoring the opener and seeing another shot turned into his own net by Danilo D’Ambrosio. He starts from the right wing in this game, with Sadio Mane and Jamal Musiala to his left. The pair have 11 goals between them already this season, with the front four completed by ever-present Thomas Muller.

Second-placed Bayern were highly convincing in their 2-0 win over Inter at the San Siro, putting down a marker in what is expected to be a very tight group, which of course features another European heavyweight in Barcelona.
