Orlando Pirates player ratings after Cape Town City draw: Mpontshane redeems himself, Hotto wasteful

2:40 PM EST 3/2/22
Siyabonga Mpontshane, Orlando Pirates, March 2022
GOAL runs the rule over the individual performances of Bucs players following the Soweto giants' 0-0 draw with the Citizens in a PSL match on Wednesday evening

  • Siyabonga Mpontshane, Orlando Pirates, November 2021

    Siyabonga Mpontshane - 8/10

Played like a man with a point to prove having been under pressure after conceding five goals in his last two competitive games.

Mpontshane was colossal in goal, making several incredible saves to keep the tie in the balance and he dominated his area - dealing well with aerial balls.

  • Bandile Shandu, Orlando Pirates, August 2021

    Bandile Shandu - 7/10

    Exerted his influence as usual.

Shandu ran his socks off - getting himself in scoring positions, but he was superbly denied by goalkeeper Hugo Marques twice and also played well defensively.

  • Paseka Mako, Orlando Pirates, November 2021

    Paseka Mako - 6/10

Just like Shandu, Mako played well defensively - containing Mduduzi Mdantsane.

Mako also ventured forward a couple of times as he looked to deliver crosses into the visitors' box, but his final product was poor.

  • Ntsikelelo Nyauza, Orlando Pirates, November 2021

    Ntsikelelo Nyauza - 6/10

Surprisingly started ahead of Happy Jele, who was rested.

Nyauza was given a torrid time by Tashreeq Morris in the first-half, but he improved after the restart as he marshalled the Bucs defence and made vital clearances until he was replaced by Jele.

  • Olisa Ndah Keagan Dolly Orlando Pirates Kaizer Chiefs

    Olisa Ndah - 7.5/10

    A phenomenal job once again.

Ndah displayed courage, grit and excellent reading of the game which saw him make an excellent block to deny Thamsanqa Mkhize a goal from close range.

  • Thabang Monare, Orlando Pirates, October 2021

    Thabang Monare - 7/10

Influential in the midfield of the park.

Monare was everywhere, breaking down City's play with aggression and willingness showing why he is now preferred ahead of Ben Motshwari since the turn of the year.

  • Goodman Mosele, Orlando Pirates, August 2021

    Goodman Mosele - 7/10

Composed and visionary, Mosele also had a good game.

Mosele made some great recoveries and always made the right decision with his passes as he continues to develop into a top-quality central midfielder.

  • Kabelo Dlamini, Orlando Pirates, November 2021

    Kabelo Dlamini - 6.5/10

Menacing with his penetrative passes and positioning.

Dlamini sent Deon Hotto through on goal three times having become a thorn in City's face - constantly looking to create chances for his teammates.

  • Fortune Makaringe, Orlando Pirates, November 2021

    Fortune Makaringe - 6.5/10

Played well in an advanced role as one of the front three.

Makaringe dropped deep into pockets of space and created a chance for Kwame Perprah, and then saw his effort brilliantly saved by Marques.

  • Deon Hotto, Orlando Pirates, February 2022

    Deo Hotto - 5/10

Had his moments, but he was wasteful.

Pirates' best chances fell for Hotto, but he was let down by his poor finishing as he was either denied by Marques or he found the side-netting.

  • Kwame Peprah, Orlando Pirates, December 2021

    Kwame Peprah - 6/10

Caught the eye with his work rate as he pressed the City defenders.

However, Peprah wasted a great opportunity after being set-up by Makaringe and he also failed to muster a single shot on target.

  • Zakhele Lepasa, Orlando Pirates, October 2020

    Zakhele Lepasa - 5.5/10

Came on the 72nd minute and got himself in goalscoring positions, but his goal-bound shot was blocked after he was let down by his poor first touch.

  • Happy Jele, Orlando Pirates, September 2021

    Happy Jele - 5/10

Replaced a tired-looking Nyauza with 17 minutes left and he was not tested defensively as Bucs were pushing for a late winning goal.

  • Terrence Dzvukamanja, Orlando Pirates, October 2021

    Terrence Dzvukamanja - 5/10

Totally anonymous for 23 minutes of action having replaced Makaringe.

  • Wayde Jooste, Orlando Pirates, August 2021

    Wayde Jooste - N/A

Introduced in the 87th minute and it was too late to warrant a rating.

  • Innocent Maela, Orlando Pirates, December 2021

    Innocent Maela - N/A

Also couldn't make an impact after coming on in the 88th mimute.
