Finally, PSG manager Christophe Galtier has some flexibility. He was limited by a litany of injuries for most of early 2023, calling on the likes of E.C. Bitshiabu and Warren Zaire-Emery for heavy minutes despite their relatively young age. But now, Galtier can reach into his mixture of veterans of promising youth to navigate the rest of the season, as PSG work towards a league title.

There are still some long-term issues, though. Presnel Kimpembe and Neymar are both done for the campaign, with the former facing more than a year on the sidelines after sustaining a nasty Achilles injury. Neymar's ailment is less serious, with the Brazilian likely to return to something resembling full fitness in mid-June - although he did require surgery. Nordi Mukiele has also opted to go under the knife after persistent hamstring problems, while Nuno Mendes will miss the Parisians' last four contests of the year.

GOAL takes a look at who's injured, and how long they might be out for.

Why did Nordi Mukiele have surgery?

The defender has dealt with persistent hamstring problems in 2023, and he hasn't enjoyed a run in the side since early January. Mukiele eventually opted to undergo a minor operation, one that will rule him out for the season. It ended his debut campaign in Paris prematurely, with the right-back making just 19 appearances and 12 starts over six injury-riddled months.

Expected return: Mukiele's is expected to make a full recovery from surgery. However, he won't appear in a PSG kit again until next season.

    What's the Neymar update?

The Brazilian sustained a nasty ankle sprain against Lille in early February and was stretchered off. Galtier confirmed that the injury will rule Neymar out for some time, but noted that he has avoided a serious fracture. It was subsequently revealed that the Brazilian needed ankle surgery, and he underwent a successful procedure on March 10.

Expected return: Neymar is out for the season. However, his surgeon revealed that the operation was a success, and indicated that the PSG star should be back to his normal level by the start of next campaign.

How long will Presnel Kimpembe be out for?

Kimpembe tore his Achilles while tracking back against Marseille. It was a cruel blow for the centre-back, who'd just returned from a long-term muscle injury.

He underwent surgery in early March, and could be out for up to a year.

Expected return: The centre-back faces a long spell on the sidelines, and is expected to be out for at least some of next season.

  4. What is Nuno Mendes' injury?

    What is Nuno Mendes' injury?

The Portuguese left-back has struggled with various knocks since the turn of the new year. A muscle injury kept him out for the World Cup and some of January, and he's never quite managed to sustain a spell of fitness since then. His tough campaign was finally ended in early May, when Mendes left PSG's clash with Lorient due to a hamstring problem.

Expected return: Mendes will miss PSG's last four games of the season, but should have no problems being ready for next pre-season.
