The Derby d'Italia between Inter and Juventus is Italy's biggest local derby, equivalent in terms of rivalry compared to El Clasico and Le Classique between PSG and Marseille.

In the history of their rivalry, Inter and Juventus have faced each other 260 times, with the Old Lady winning 115 and the Nerazzurri winning 81. A total of 64 games between the two teams have ended in draws.

In terms of domestic titles, Juventus have won 59 trophies in Italy and are way ahead of Inter, who have won 33.

Despite the animosity between the two clubs, 29 players have featured for both teams in their history.

Who are they? Let's take a look!

  1. Roberto Boninsegna

    Roberto Boninsegna

    Roberto Boninsegna spent a few years with Inter's youth academy before starting his senior career with the Tuscany-based club Prato in 1963.

    Over the next five years, the striker went on to feature for Potenza, Varese, Cagliari and the American club Chicago Mustangs before joining Inter in 1969.

    Boninsegna spent seven years at Inter, scoring 113 goals in 197 games, and winning a Serie A title.

    He moved to Juventus in 1976 in an exchange deal for Pietro Anastasi and spent three seasons in Turin, scoring 22 goals in 58 games, winning two league titles, a Coppa Italia and a UEFA Cup.

    Boninsegna moved to Verona in 1979 and ended his career there a year later.

  2. Giuseppe Meazza

    Giuseppe Meazza

    One of the greatest strikers of all time, Giuseppe Meazza started his career with Inter at youth level before joining their senior team.

    He went on to create an unmatched legacy at the club, making 348 appearances, scoring 240 goals and winning three Serie A titles and a Coppa Italia.

    The two-time World Cup winner (1934 and 1938) left Inter after 13 years and joined arch-rivals Milan in 1940.

    After two seasons with Milan, where he scored nine goals in 37 games, Meazza moved to Juventus in 1942, scoring 10 goals in 27 appearances. He played for a couple of other clubs before returning to and retiring at Inter Milan in 1946 and completing his incredible career's full circle!

    Meazza created such incredible history in Italian football that Inter and Milan named the San Siro after him, which is remarkable!

  3. Alessandro Altobelli

    Alessandro Altobelli

    World Cup winner with Italy in 1982, Alessandro Altobelli was one of the greatest goalscorers in the world in the late 1970s and 1980s.

    He joined Inter in 1977, and over the next 11 years, he made 317 appearances for them, scoring 128 goals.

    After winning the Serie A title and two Coppa Italia crowns in his time in Milan, Altobelli joined Juventus in 1988. He only played one season in Turin, scoring four goals in 20 appearances before moving to Brescia.

    An interesting fact about him is that after his footballing days were over, he played Beach Football and was the top scorer in the 1995 and 1996 Beach Soccer World Cup tournaments for Italy.

    Roberto Baggio

    While many remember Roberto Baggio for his infamous penalty miss at the 1994 World Cup final, he is much more than just that.

    After quite a controversial move from Fiorentina to Juventus in 1990, he won back-to-back league titles with them, scoring 78 goals in 141 appearances in five years. For his incredible performances, the prolific forward even won the Ballon d'Or in 1993.

    Baggio joined Milan in 1995 and won back-to-back league titles in his two seasons at the club. He scored 12 goals in 51 appearances in Milan. Later when Fabio Capello did not wish to have him in his plans for the club, he joined Bologna in 1997.

    The Italian then joined Inter in 1998, scoring 11 goals in 42 games before going on to end his career at Brescia between 2000 and 2004.

    Andrea Pirlo

    Andrea Pirlo started at youth level in Italy with Brescia before graduating to their first team in 1995. Three years later, he moved to Inter after the club extensively scouted him.

    Inter later loaned him to Reggina for the 1999-2000 season, but even after impressive performances, he couldn't get into their first team upon returning from loan.

    In 2001, he moved to Milan, a club where he attained legendary status and became one of the greatest midfielders of all time.

    Pirlo played for a decade at Milan, making close to 300 appearances and winning nine trophies, including two Champions League crowns.

    The World Cup winner left for Juventus in 2011, where he won four successive league titles to become one of the greatest players ever to feature for all three top clubs in Italy.

  6. Marco Tardelli

    Marco Tardelli

    A true Juventus great, Marco Tardelli, arrived in Turin in 1975.

    The versatile midfielder, who could also slot in defence, made 259 appearances for Juventus.

    At Juve, he became one of the first three players ever to win all three major European competitions, alongside teammates Antonio Cabrini and Gaetano Scirea.

    He won the UEFA Cup in 1977, the Cup Winners' Cup in 1984, and the European Cup in 1985. Tardelli also won five Italian Serie A championships and two Coppa Italia titles, as well as the 1984 European Super Cup with Juventus.

    In 1985, he joined Inter and played there for a couple of seasons.

  7. Zlatan Ibrahimovic

    Zlatan Ibrahimovic

    Zlatan Ibrahimovic joined Inter in his prime in 2006 after proving himself on the big stage at Ajax and Juventus.

    The Swedish striker made 88 appearances for Inter, scoring an impressive 57 goals.

    Ibrahimovic won three Serie A titles and two Italian Super Cup trophies with Inter before his move to Barcelona in 2009.

  8. Luigi Cevenini

    Luigi Cevenini

    Luigi Cevenini (extreme right in the image with his elder brothers) initially joined Milan in 1911, but left them for Inter a year later.

    He made 45 appearances and scored an incredible 75 goals for Inter between 1912 and 1915 before returning to Milan in 1915 for a four-year spell.

    In 1919, Cevenini joined Inter again, this time for two seasons, scoring 54 goals in just 40 appearances.

    After spending the 1921-22 season with Novese, he returned to Inter for a third and final time, once again coming up with extraordinary numbers. Between 1922 to 1927, Luigi scored 72 goals in 94 games, before joining Juventus, where he scored 42 goals in 67 appearances.

    Cevenini won the 1919-20 Italian championship with Inter, the first league held after World War 1.

    Enrico Candiani

    Enrico Candiani played the majority of his career at his first club, Inter. He won the Serie A and Coppa Italia during his nine years at the club.

    He moved to Juventus in 1946 and scored 15 goals in his one season in Turin.

    Candiani also featured for Milan for a season in 1949-50.

  10. Aldo Serena

    Aldo Serena

    Four-time Serie A winner, out of which two came in his stints with Juventus and Inter, Aldo Serena joined Inter in 1978 for the first of his two spells at the club. He made 51 appearances for the club until 1985, which included four loan spells.

    In 1985, he joined Juventus, making 51 appearances and scoring 21 goals over two seasons before returning to Inter in 1987. Serena spent three more seasons at Inter in his second spell at the club until 1991, making 114 appearances and scoring 45 goals. He ended his career after spending two seasons at Milan.

    World Cup and Ballon d'Or winner, Fabio Cannavaro started his senior career at Napoli before moving to Parma in 1995. After establishing himself as one of the best defenders in Italy, Inter signed him in 2002. He made 50 appearances for Inter before moving to Juventus in 2004, where he made 74 appearances in two seasons. After winning the World Cup with Italy, he signed for Real Madrid in 2006.

    One of the few players who have played for Inter, Juventus as well as Milan, Edgar Davids signed for Milan from Ajax in 1996. After two underwhelming years there, he joined Juventus, where he shone and went on to make 159 appearances over six years. He spent some time on loan at Barcelona before signing for Inter in 2004.

    Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira left the Gunners on an emotional note in 2005 and joined Juventus. Still, his stay in Turin lasted only one season at the club due to their infamous scandal that led to their relegation. The French midfielder signed for Inter in 2006 and played four years for them, making 67 appearances.

    Irish attacking midfielder Liam Brady was known for his play-making skills and eye for goal in the late 1970s. Juventus signed him from Arsenal 1980 and Brady scored 15 goals in 76 appearances in two seasons in Turin. He then moved to Sampdoria in 1982 and later to Inter in 1984. Brady made 58 appearances and scored five goals in an Inter shirt.

    Juventus signed Italian striker Christian Vieri in 1996, and in his one season in Turin, he made 23 appearances, scoring eight goals. He moved to Atletico Madrid in 1997, Lazio in 1998 and then Inter in 1999, where he became a legend. Vieri made 143 appearances for Inter, scoring an incredible 103 goals in his six-season spell at the club.

    Juventus great Pietro Anastasi made over 200 appearances in Turin, scoring 78 goals between 1968 and 1976 before moving to Inter for two years. He played just 46 games for Inter, scoring seven goals before leaving the club. He won three Serie A titles with Juventus and a Coppa Italia with Inter.

    Legendary Italian defender Tarcisio Burgnich started out at Udinese before moving to Juventus in 1960. He made 13 appearances in his one season at the club before joining Palermo in 1961. A season later, he moved to Inter and became a legend at the club. In his 12-year stint with Inter, the defender made 358 appearances, winning four Serie A titles, two European Cups and two Intercontinental Cups.

    Goalkeeper Fabian Carini made eight appearances for Juventus between 2001 and 2004. He later made four appearances for Inter between 2004 and 2007.

    After making 146 appearances for Juventus between 1987 and 1992, Italian defender Luigi De Agostini moved to Inter. However, he stayed just one season at the club, making 31 appearances.

    Attacking midfielder Pietro Fanna joined Juventus from Atalanta in 1977. Over the next five years, Fanna went on to make over 100 appearances for the Old Lady before moving to Verona in 1982. Three years later, he moved to Inter, making 97 appearances in four years before returning back to Verona in 1989 and ending his career there.

    Sergio Gori made 24 appearances for Inter over two underwhelming stints. Later in his career, the versatile midfielder made 29 appearances for Juventus.

    One of the best midfielders of his generation, Serbian star Vladimir Jugovic arrived at Juventus in 1995 after shining in his three seasons at Sampdoria. He stayed at Juve for two seasons, scoring eight goals in 56 games before moving to Lazio in 1997 and Atletico Madrid in 1998. Inter signed him in 1999, and he featured for them for two seasons, making 38 appearances.

    After making 96 appearances for Inter between 2009 and 2012, Lucio left for Juventus in the summer of 2012. Still, his move failed as he could make just one appearance before mutually terminating his contract and moving to Sao Paolo in December of the same year.

    Brazilian defensive midfielder Felipe Melo arrived from Brazil to Europe in 2005 and after playing at many clubs, he joined Juventus in 2009. In his two-year stay in Turin, Melo made 58 appearances. After a move to Galatasaray in Turkey, where he stayed for four years, he returned to Italy with Inter and made 31 appearances between 2015 and 2017.

    Angelo Peruzzi was a goalkeeper in 1990s and started his senior career with Roma, making just 16 appearances between 1987 and 1991. He joined Juventus in 1991 and went on to make 208 appearances in Turin and won 10 trophies, including a Champions League. Peruzzi moved to Inter in 1999 for just one season.

    Giuliano Sarti made 220 appearances for Fiorentina between 1954 and 1963 before joining Inter. The goalkeeper is notably recognised for his role as the starting keeper in the highly successful "Grande Inter" side of the 1960s under manager Helenio Herrera. During his five seasons with the club, he made 147 appearances and won two Serie A titles, two European Cups, as well as two Intercontinental Cups. After leaving Inter in 1968, he later spent the 1968–69 season with Juventus.

    Messina legend Salvatore Schillaci moved to Juventus in 1989 and featured for them for three seasons. In his first season at Juve, he 1989–90 Coppa Italia and the UEFA Cup titles. The striker scored 26 goals in 90 appearances for them before sealing a transfer to Inter in 1992. At Inter, he made just 30 appearances over two seasons as injuries took over his progress.

    Portuguese defensive midfielder Paulo Sousa joined Juventus from Sporting CP in 1994. In his first season in Turin, he won the Serie A title, the domestic cup and the Supercoppa as Juventus also finished as runners-up in the UEFA Cup, losing to fellow Italian side Parma. The next year, he was part of the squad that won the Champions League. In 1996 he moved to Borussia Dortmund and won the Champions League with them. That made him only the second player after Marcel Desailly to win back-to-back titles with different teams, and the unique fact about that final was he faced his former team Juventus and won it! In 1998, he moved to Inter for two seasons.

    Leonardo Bonucci just made a single appearance for Inter while on loan with them in the 2005-06 season. He then moved to Inter permanently and failed to make a single appearance before moving to Genoa, Bari and then Juventus in 2010.
