Guinea and Malawi are set to clash in their Africa Cup of Nations Group B opening game at Kouekong Stadium on Monday.

Both nations have never won the continental title and would hope to mount a strong campaign so that they are seen as competitors and not just participants.

Guinea, the 1976 runners-up, have appeared more times in the Afcon editions than Malawi who are making a return for the first time since 2010.

Match Preview

This will be the first encounter between Guinea - who are making their 13th appearance in the competition and the Flames - who scored six goals in the qualifiers - at Afcon.

Malawi’s two previous appearances at the Africa Cup of Nations were in 1984 and 2010. They finished bottom of their group on both occasions, winning only one of their six matches (D1 L4).

The Cosafa nation will be hoping that their star striker Richard Mbalu - who scored against Uganda, South Sudan and Uganda in the qualifiers - will be on top of his game and produce critical goals for them in the tournament.
