United City FC will face BG Pathum United in their next match in the AFC Champions League campaign at the Pathum Thani Stadium, in Bangkok, Thailand on Thursday.

This is United City’s second-ever participation in AFC Champions League after last season when they failed to progress from the group stage (P6 W1 D1 L4). They conceded 24 goals last season, only Tampines Rovers (27) did ship in more. United City have faced a South Korean side twice in the AFC Champions League. They were in the same group as Daegu FC last season and lost both games conceding 11 goals without reply.

Mark Hartmann is the only current United City player who scored in AFC Champions League. He scored a brace against Beijing Sinobo Guoan last July. They have lost both their matches in the current campaign and are at the bottom of the table.

“It’s a little bit better preparation than we had last time. We look at the squad we had last year, and it was a stronger squad than we’ve got this year, but of course, we were in a stronger group last year - I’m not saying this year is any easier because there are some good teams in there. You can only try and replace whatever you lose. You try to fill those gaps," stated coach Jason Withe.

Meanwhile, BG Pathum United are unbeaten so far in the Champions League and are second in the league table with four points from two matches.
