Nottingham Forest v Tottenham Hotspur Live Commentary, 28/08/2022

0 - 2
H. Kane (5)
H. Kane (81)
The City Ground

Tottenham's unbeaten start to the season continues then. They're not firing on all cylinders yet, but when they are they could give Manchester City and Liverpool a run for their money. That's all for now. Goodbye!
Spurs go third in the early Premier League table with 10 points, two behind Arsenal at the top. This is their best start in the league since 2009-10, and they could well mount a half-decent title challenge. Forest drop to 14th. This is their first home league defeat of 2022. If they go the rest of the year without another, they'll be delighted with that.
Tottenham leave the City Ground with a win that was less comfortable than the scoreline suggests. Conte's men were always well-placed after Kane's early goal, but Forest tried their best to make life difficult for the Londoners. Kane missed a second-half penalty after Cook's silly handball, but soon scored his second to seal the three points for Spurs.
90' + 8' Williams' shot deflects out for one last Forest corner, but Lloris catches it easily. That's that!
90' + 7' Dennis's shot from outside the box is blocked, giving Forest a late corner. Freuler crashes the loose ball into a defender and Worrall skies the rebound! There go Forest's chances of scoring.
90' + 5' Forest are still hopeful of nabbing a consolation goal at least. Richarlison is well-placed to nod Dennis' cross away.
90' + 3' Richarlison shoots from the centre of the box once he's picked out by Hojbjerg. It's a comfortable save for Henderson. Spence has his own attempt saved, and a second one blocked.
D. Spence
R. Bentancur
Tottenham Hotspur
90' + 1' Meanwhile, Bentancur's picked up a knock. The former Forest loanee Spence comes on for Tottenham.
S. Surridge
B. Johnson
Nottingham Forest
90' Forest substitution. Surridge replaces Johnson, who might have scored on a better day.
89' There'll be eight minutes of time added onto the end of this match. It feels like a lot, even with the delay around Cook's handball earlier.
87' That second Kane goal has taken all remaining tension out of the game. Spurs have slowed things down smartly now.
B. Johnson
Yellow Card
Nottingham Forest
85' Johnson joins his team-mates on a yellow card by scything down Richarlison seconds after the Brazilian pulls off a few cute tricks. Spurs are better for having a player of his quality to bring off the bench.
C. Kouyaté
Yellow Card
Nottingham Forest
84' Kouyate's booked for a reckless challenge on Kane. Forest are still battling hard, but they must know the jig is up.
Y. Bissouma
D. Kulusevski
Tottenham Hotspur
83' Conte decides now's a good time to shut up shop. Kulusevski leaves the pitch. Bissouma comes on for Spurs.
H. Kane
Yellow Card
Tottenham Hotspur
82' Kane's booked for celebrating his goal excessively. It's understandable why he does though. He's now scored 187 Premier League goals, moving himself level with Andy Cole. Only Alan Shearer and Wayne Rooney have scored more than him in the league now.
Tottenham Hotspur
81' Richarlison showed Sessegnon how it's done there! Forest were guilty of switching off once they blocked Sessegnon's cross, forgetting that Kane was still behind them.
H. Kane
Tottenham Hotspur
81' GOAL! NOTTINGHAM FOREST 0-2 TOTTENHAM! Sessegnon fails to set Kane up for a tap in as the pair bear down on goal. Richarlison picks up the pieces and pulls off a peach of a cross with the outside of his right foot. Kane remains in position and stoops to power a header past Henderson!
80' Forest are still creating chances but they're not testing Lloris. Dennis skips inside from the left and lashes over the crossbar with his right foot.
78' Gibbs-White checks onto his right foot and pings a cross into Spurs' box. Sessegnon's header to clear it is unconvincing, but Johnson's own header in response is equally poor.
77' Forest's fans aren't happy with Richarlison impeding Toffolo down the hosts' left. The Tottenham substitute doesn't help himself by taking his time to get to his feet.
T. Awoniyi
S. Cook
Nottingham Forest
75' Last to go off for Forest is Cook. Their new Nigerian forward Awoniyi comes on.
C. Kouyaté
R. Yates
Nottingham Forest
75' Yates heads off too. The former Crystal Palace man Kouyate slots into Forest's midfield.
R. Freuler
L. O'Brien
Nottingham Forest
75' Forest make a few more changes too. The booked O'Brien departs. Freuler comes on.
Son Heung-Min
Tottenham Hotspur
74' Son's match is over too. On comes Richarlison for Spurs.
R. Sessegnon
I. Perišić
Tottenham Hotspur
74' Tottenham make their first change. Sessegnon replaces Perisic at left wing-back.
L. O'Brien
Yellow Card
Nottingham Forest
73' O'Brien tugs on Kane's shirt as Spurs look to break from out of their own box. O'Brien's booked for the offence.
71' Forest are pushing forward more now, but they're leaving more space in behind them. Williams has time to pick his pass on the overlap but makes the wrong decision to cross to no one in particular.
70' A Spurs corner is claimed easily by Henderson. Up the other end, Lloris gets down low to catch Johnson's tame cross.
E. Dennis
J. Lingard
Nottingham Forest
69' Forest make the game's first substitution as they look to chase the game. The quiet Lingard goes off. Dennis comes on.
67' Kulusevski goes for goal again from further out. Forest manage to get in the way of the Swede's effort.
65' Kulusevski is found by Son and drags his latest shot wide from the right of the box. Tottenham only need to score one of these chances to put the game to bed.
64' Toffolo earns a corner for Forest down their left. Cook flicks it on to Yates, whose header from very close range is blocked.
62' Henderson keeps Son out now! The South Korean shoots left-footed from the right of the box. Forest's keeper is in the right place to stop last season's Golden Boot winner from furthering Spurs' advantage.
S. McKenna
Yellow Card
Nottingham Forest
61' McKenna's the latest Forest player to land himself in the book after making a poor challenge on Kane.
60' More on Kane's penalty. That's the first one the England captain's missed in the Premier League since against Liverpool in February 2018, although he went on to score another spot kick in that game.
J. Worrall
Yellow Card
Nottingham Forest
58' Worrall's booked for a tactical foul on Son. Forest are desperate not to concede a crucial second goal.
57' Forest nearly equalise seconds after the penalty! Williams shoots from the edge of the box. It's whiskers away from finding the bottom left corner.
H. Kane
Penalty Miss
Tottenham Hotspur
56' Kane's penalty wasn't the worst that's ever been taken, but he's definitely done better from the penalty spot. Now can Forest capitalise on the lifeline they've been given?
D. Henderson
Penalty Save
Nottingham Forest
56' HENDERSON SAVES THE PENALTY! The Forest goalkeeper dives to his right to keep out Kane's strike, which is too close to the centre of goal. Forest are still in this!
S. Cook
Yellow Card
Nottingham Forest
54' Cook's shown a yellow card for handling the ball. He's lucky, as the officials decide not to send him off for denying a clear goalscoring opportunity after a quick VAR check.
53' PENALTY FOR TOTTENHAM! Perisic darts down the left and crosses for Kane, who's angling for a header in the six-yard box. Cook is in his way though and stupidly catches the ball with a high arm as the pair tumble into the net. It's as obvious a handball decision as they come.
52' Kane floats an inviting cross over the Forest defence. Perisic smashes it high and wide on the volley with his left foot.
50' Chance for Forest! Gibbs-White latches onto a sliderule pass, turns and clips the ball up for Yates who nods wide of the right-hand post!
49' Kulusevski bears down on the box from the right and centres for the arriving Kane. Worrall spots the danger and blocks Kane's shot.
47' Son scampers after a hopeful ball down the middle. Forest are able to pass their way out. Sanchez recovers well to stop Toffolo from getting in behind him.
46' Spurs get the second half started. No changes at half-time.
Tottenham will be confident of grinding out the victory from here. They've won each of their last 14 Premier League games when leading at half-time since a 3-1 defeat to Manchester United in April 2021. They've only gotten better at holding onto leads under Conte.
Spurs will be pleased with their work in the opening 45 minutes here. They took the lead in the opening five minutes thanks to Kane's counter-attacking goal and have held Forest at bay since, creating a few chances to score again too. Forest aren't playing badly though, and an equaliser doesn't feel that unlikely. More to come!
45' There'll be just one added minute before half-time.
44' Kane finds him in possession down the right and looks up in an attempt to find Son. The Englishman's cross is too powerful and bounces behind for a Forest goal-kick.
43' Hojbjerg's loose pass for Perisic goes out for a Forest throw-in. Cue the obligatory cheers from the home fans.
41' Toffolo's low cross from the left is laid off by Lingard for Gibbs-White, who lashes wide from the edge of the box.
39' Lingard carelessly hands Spurs possession, but they can't do anything with it. Forest manage to regain the ball quickly.
37' Yates is penalised for handball. Having carefully managed the opening half hour of this match, Tottenham are starting to gain a semblance of control.
35' Williams shoots well wide under pressure from the right of the box after he's found by good work from Lingard.
34' Johnson gets on the end of McKenna's cross from the left and heads wide from the penalty spot. Tottenham don't look entirely comfortable and can't afford to switch off.
32' Son thinks he's beaten Forest's offside trap to find himself one-on-one with Henderson. Henderson races off his line to close the South Korean down. The linesman's flag eventually goes up anyway.
31' Kulusevski shoots from outside the box. It's blocked. Gibbs-White races down the right and fizzes a low cross towards Lingard at the far post. Lloris gets to it first and swipes it out of the Forest midfielder's path.
29' Tottenham are starting to enjoy more of the ball. Kane escapes the attention of Cook to find Kulusevski, but the attack doesn't work out.
27' Kulusevski sloppily gives the ball away in Tottenham's defensive third. Lloris is forced to punt clear as Forest suddenly press.
25' Kane plays a perfectly weighted throughball down the middle for Son to latch onto. The South Korean accidentally handles it, bringing a promising attack to an end.
23' Forest are passing the ball around patiently. Tottenham are totally happy sitting deep and waiting for a chance to strike again on the counter.
21' Forest win a corner down their right. Gibbs-White swings it in towards the far post. Spurs are slow to get out of their own box, and O'Brien fires over a dipping shot from range that Lloris has to tip aside! Williams can't test the Spurs keeper again.
19' Forest are enjoying plenty of possession but look vulnerable when they lose the ball. It's a weakness that Tottenham are repeatedly trying to exploit.
17' Lingard and Yates both find time to shoot but Tottenham get bodies in the way. Again, Spurs burst forward and Kane shoots wide from the left of the box.
15' Yates blasts a hopeful shot into a crowd of Tottenham players. Tottenham break, and Forest don't fully clear Perisic's cross. Davies' effort from outside the box is blocked, and Son curls over first-time from the left of the D.
13' Tottenham look menacing on the counter-attack. Bentancur and Hojbjerg combine to send Kane racing towards the box. Forest make a last-ditch tackle before Kane can pull the trigger.
12' Forest may be behind but they've been the more enterprising side so far. Lloris smothers a dangerous-looking throughball as it rolls into his path.
11' Johnson jinks into the box and has a pop at goal that's deflected out for a Forest corner. Gibbs-White's delivery sails out for a Spurs throw-in.
9' Johnson wriggles free down the right for Forest and flashes the ball across the six-yard box from the byline. There's no one in a red shirt at the far post though, and Tottenham go unpunished.
7' That's Kane's third goal of the season, and Kulusevski now has 10 Premier League assists since his debut for Tottenham in February, more than any other player. The Swede's made a big impact for the club since his arrival.
D. Kulusevski
Tottenham Hotspur
5' Kulusevski leapt on Forest's mistake in midfield and wasted no time in finding Kane to punish them. That was clinical stuff by Spurs.
H. Kane
Tottenham Hotspur
5' GOAL! NOTTINGHAM FOREST 0-1 TOTTENHAM! Tottenham score with their first real attack! Kulusevski steals the ball for the visitors and spots Kane running to his right. He finds the England captain who slots into the bottom left corner of the net from the edge of the box.
5' Johnson strays offside and the flag goes up. Forest have started this game with plenty of energy.
3' Gibbs-White skips past a few challenges in central midfield and plays the ball wide left. Forest retain possession and Gibbs-White fires over from distance.
2' Forest win an early free-kick down their left. It's swung into Tottenham's box and Lloris punches it away. Lingard's follow-up cross is caught by the Spurs goalkeeper.
1' The hosts Forest kick things off at the City Ground!
The tables have turned between these two teams in recent decades. Forest won six of their nine Premier League games against Tottenham before they were last relegated in 1999. Since then, Spurs have won four of their last five meetings in all competitions, the last being in September 2014. They'll be the favourites to win again here.
Tottenham should be fresh after having a midweek break. Antonio Conte names a unchanged Spurs line-up from their 1-0 win at home to Wolves last week.
Forest revert to a strong line-up after their 3-0 win away to Grimsby in the EFL Cup midweek. There are two changes to the Forest team that started the draw away to Everton. O'Brien and Yates start here.

After their strong start to the Premier League season, Tottenham are looking to go unbeaten in their opening four league games for only the second time in the last 13 seasons. The last time they did that was in 2016/17 when Mauricio Pochettino's men went on to finish second. No doubt Spurs would welcome an omen like that.
Forest's long-awaited return to the Premier League isn't going badly so far. Steve Cooper's team have four points from their three games so far, picking up a 1-1 draw away to Everton last time out which was so nearly a late win. Now they welcome Tottenham to the City Ground, hoping to impress against one of the league's biggest sides.
