The Sea Robbers will be eager to avenge the 2-1 loss suffered in the first round in November

Orlando Pirates’ starting XI to face Kaizer Chiefs in the Premier Soccer League Soweto Derby at Orlando Stadium on Saturday has been named.

Here is how they line up:

  • Siyabonga Mpontshane, Orlando Pirates, November 2021

    Siyabonga Mpontshane

The experienced custodian – who has kept three clean sheets in the last five games across all competitions – keeps his position as they host their cross-town rivals.

  • Bandile Shandu Orlando Pirates

Being one of the outstanding Bucs’ stars in recent times, expectations are high on the right-back as the Sea Robbers look to return to winning ways on the domestic front.

  • Thabiso Kutumela Paseka Mako Orlando Pirates Mamelodi Sundowns

    Paseka Mako

Mako has made the left-back position his own and he has been given a proper stage – the Soweto Derby - to show why he should keep it for long against a close rival, Innocent Maela.

Nyauza, the day’s captain for the home side, has once again been named ahead of Happy Jele, who is on the bench.

  • Olisa Ndah of Orlando Pirates challenges Amadou Soukouna of Maritzburg United, October 2021

    Olisa Ndah

Although the Nigerian conceded a penalty in the first round duel when they went on to lose by a 2-1 scoreline, he has been outstanding at the back in recent games and deservedly earns a slot in the first team.

  • Ben Motshwari, Orlando Pirates & Sabelo Radebe, Kaizer Chiefs, August 1

    Ben Motshwari

Goodman Mosele’s suspension means Motshwari is a natural fallback plan for the Bucs’ technical bench as he is summoned into the starting eleven.

  • Thabang Monare, Orlando Pirates, October 2021

    Thabang Monare

Yellow-carded against Cape Town City, Monare should be cautious as he hopes to dominate the midfield battle against the Glamour Boys and perhaps give his side a competitive edge in the showdown.

  • Thembinkosi Lorch, Orlando Pirates, February 2022

    Thembinkosi Lorch

The midfielder, who missed the Cape Town City duel, has made a swift recovery from a muscle strain to reclaim his slot in the starting XI.

  • Kabelo Dlamini of Orlando Pirates challenged by Shamikh Hamid of Ahly Benghazi, April 2021

    Kabelo Dlamini

Dlamini makes his third straight start for Pirates.

  • Deon Hotto Orlando Pirates

    Deon Hotto

One of the stars that Pirates supporters have pegged their hopes on, the Namibian should be on top of his game to hand the passionate fan base the derby’s bragging rights in the end.

  • Tapelo Xoki, AmaZulu FC & Kwame Peprah, Orlando Pirates, December 2021

    Kwame Peprah

Peprah has been given the central striking role once more, ahead of Zakhele Lepasa, who are both on the bench.
