The Black Stars midfielder was on target as the Gunners won the North London Derby to go four points clear at the top of the Premier League table

Ghanaian fans taunted their Nigerian counterparts after Thomas Partey scored for Arsenal against Tottenham Hotspur in the 3-1 North London Derby victory on Saturday.

The Black Stars midfielder scored on the same day Nigeria were celebrating their Independence Day and some fans took the goal as a reminder of how the Super Eagles missed out on World Cup qualification.

Ghana saw off their Jollof Derby rivals in the playoffs – in which the Arsenal man scored in the second leg of a 1-1 away draw - and booked their ticket to the Qatar finals.

While some fans focused on taunting Nigerians, others debated the North London Derby and pointed out how Partey is a key Arsenal player.

Meanwhile, as fans discussed Partey, Arsenal have won each of their last three Premier League home games against Tottenham for the first time since September 2013, while only in April 2005 have they had a longer such run in the competition (six games).

On the other hand, Spurs have now failed to win any of their last 12 Premier League visits to Arsenal (D4 L8), which is currently their longest ongoing run in the competition.

    Resolve Ghana captaincy issue

If Thomas Partey will play for Black Stars wholeheartedly, the Black Stars captaincy should be decided well before the 2022 Qatar World Cup in November. The captaincy issue at Black Stars is creating a problem, and the players can’t criticize. The reason Partey faked an injury. - @Suro_Nyame
