Sadio Mane has become the first Liverpool player to score in consecutive league appearances against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge with his opening strike in their 2-2 draw on Sunday.

Mane broke the deadlock for the visitors in the ninth minute to end his nine-game goal drought across all competitions.

Unfortunately, the 2019 African Footballer of the Year received the earliest booking in a Premier League game since the 2006-07 season after a foul on Cesar Azpilicueta 15 seconds into the encounter.

Sunday's opener was his third goal at Stamford Bridge since the start of last season and it makes him the Premier League player to have scored the most goals away at Chelsea during that period.

Four minutes before the half-hour mark, Egypt's Mohamed Salah doubled the lead for Liverpool with his 16th league goal of the season but they failed to maintain the advantage.

Within the final minutes of the first half, Chelsea scored two quick-fire goals which saw the two teams go into the interval on level terms.

Mateo Kovacic inspired the fight-back by halving the deficit in the 42nd minute with a sublime effort and Christian Pulisic fired in a left-footed strike for the leveller, three minutes later.

After the restart, Chelsea and Liverpool failed to net a winner and they settled for a share of the spoils as they remain unmoved in the Premier League table.

Mane and Salah played for 90 minutes before the former was replaced by Curtis Jones on the stroke of full-time while Guinea's Naby Keita replaced James Milner in the 69th minute.

Liverpool are third in the league table with 42 points after 20 games and Chelsea sit second with 43 points from 21 games.

Mane will now shift his attention to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon where he is expected to lead Senegal's quest for glory.

The Teranga Lions are in Group B with Zimbabwe, Malawi and Guinea.
