Commentary

Thanks for joining our commentary this evening. Until next time, goodbye.
Both teams will now prepare for the challenges ahead next season. The next LaLiga campaign begins in August.
Villarreal will play in the Europa Conference League next season after a 2-0 win over Barcelona secured seventh place in LaLiga. The visitors were the better side in the final game of the term and deserved the three points. Alfonso Pedraza fired them ahead with a composed finish in the first half before Moi Gomez blasted home a second following a mistake by Adama Traore. Barca offered very little in the final third and fell to fifth defeat at Camp Nou in the 2021/22 season.

Moi Gómez
Goal
Villarreal
55' GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!! GOMEZ FINDS THE NET!!!! 2-0 VILLARREAL!!!!! Gomez capitalises on a mistake by Traore and applies a fine finish from close range. Trigueros looks to release Pedraza down the inside-left channel, but unlike the first half Traore gets back to make the interception. However, he sends his clearance straight to Gomez across the face of his own goal. Gomez takes a touch on his left foot before burying his strike into the roof of the net.
54' Alves clips the resulting free-kick into the box from the left flank, but Gaspar does enough to guide it away from Lenglet in the middle and behind for a corner.
52' The referee points to the spot as Torres goes down under pressure from Gomez in the final third. However, he then changes his decision to a free-kick as the contact begins outside the penalty area.
50' Torres uses his pace down the left flank to surge past Gaspar and into the inside-left channel. He tries to open up room for a strike, but Albiol gets across to force the ball behind.
49' Alves probes down the right flank and whips a cross into the box that has to be headed behind by Torres at the near post.
46' We're back under way at Camp Nou.
Xavi will be slightly concerned by his side's lack of cutting edge. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has looked off the pace, while Adama Traore has lacked a final product. The Spaniard may look to his bench with Ansu Fati and Memphis Depay for answers.
Villarreal hold a 1-0 lead over Barcelona at the break in their LaLiga clash at Camp Nou. Alfonzo Pedraza put the visitors in front with a composed finish from Dani Parejo's throughball, silencing the home fans. Barca came close to responding through Ferran Torres, but his volley was well saved by Geronimo Rulli. The home side have been fairly toothless in the final third, which will need to change in the second half in order for them to finish the season on a high note.

23' Alba works a quick offload back to Gavi to attack, but he slices his cross or shot at goal well wide of the target. It was difficult to determine what he was up to there.
23' Traore skips past a challenge from Pedraza and lifts a cross into the box. It sails over the heads of the red and blue shirts in the middle and is headed away by Gaspar at the back post.
21' Albiol breaks forwad out from the back for the visitors before being brought down by Araujo with a barge.
20' OVER! Busquets latches on to a loose ball on the edge of the Villarreal box and connects with a sweet left-footed strike that sails just over the bar.
18' Barca win a free-kick on the left flank as Torres is brought down by Gomez. Alba has the chance to send a cross into the box from a decent position.
16' The home side are not having the game all their own way in the final third. The resistance from Villarreal will please Emery after being penned back by the hosts.
14' Alcacer sends a reverse pass towards Trigueros down the left flank and the winger has options in the middle, but he clips his delivery straight at Ter Stegen.
13' There is a mis-communication with Torres and Rulli at the back as the defender tries to shield the ball towards the keeper, who does not want to retrieve. Eventually, Torres manages to guide it out of trouble amid pressure from Aubameyang.
11' INCHES WIDE! Torres cuts in from the left flank and angles a dangerous cross towards the back post. De Jong attacks the delivery, but it just evades his leap and trickles agonisingly wide of the right post.
10' Traore breaks down the right flank and lifts a cross into the box that travels above the head of Aubameyang before being headed clear by Albiol.
8' Alves probes down the right flank and he angles a cross to the near post that Albiol guides behind with a diving header.
7' SAVE! Torres pounces on a poor clearance from Parejo and fires a strike towards goal on the half-volley. Rulli gets down to make a sharp reaction save, and as Aubameyang fires the rebound into the side-netting the flag goes up for offside.
4' Torres makes a run to the edge of the Villareal box and goes down under pressure from Capoue. The referee waves play on, but the forward takes a second to get back to his feet.
2' WIDE! Alba breaks down the left flank and angles a cross-field pass towards Traore in space. He lines up a drive, but flashes his effort wide of the right post.
1' We're under way at Camp Nou.
Barcelona have won their last five games against Villarreal in LaLiga, and could register six wins in a row against them for the first time in the competition.
Villarreal have made five changes to their side from their defeat to Real Sociedad. Gaspar and Pedraza get the nod to come into the backline, with Trigueros, Gomez and Alcacer also earning starting berths.
Barcelona have made four changes to their side from their goalless draw against Getafe. Araujo and Alba return to the backline in place of Mingueza and Balde. De Jong slots into the middle of the park ahead of Puig. Traore replaces Depay in the final third alongside Aubameyang and Torres.
VILLARREAL SUBS: Sergio Asenjo, Gerard Moreno, Vicente Iborra, Samuel Chukwueze, Pervis Estupinan, Boulaye Dia, Ruben Pena, Aissa Mandi, Serge Aurier, Nicolas Jackson, Iker.
VILLARREAL (4-4-2): Geronimo Rulli; Mario Gaspar, Raul Albiol, Pau Torres, Alfonso Pedraza; Manu Trigueros, Etienne Capoue, Daniel Parejo, Moi Gomez; Giovani Lo Celso, Paco Alcacer.
BARCELONA SUBS: Riqui Puig, Ousmane Dembele, Memphis Depay, Ansu Fati, Martin Braithwaite, Luuk de Jong, Oscar Mingueza, Samuel Umtiti, Lazar Carevic, Alejandro Balde, Arnau Tenas, Jandro Orellana.
BARCELONA (4-3-3): Marc-Andre ter Stegen; Dani Alves, Ronald Araujo, Clement Lenglet, Jordi Alba; Frenkie de Jong, Sergio Busquets, Gavi; Adama Traore, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ferran Torres.
Villarreal have stumbled towards the end of the season, although it was a year which saw the Yellow Submarine reach the semi-finals of the Champions League. Unai Emery's men are in seventh place and the final European place by a point ahead of Athletic Bilbao, who are in action against Sevilla. A slip-up could cost Villarreal a place in Europa Conference League next term after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Real Sociedad last time out. There is pressure on this game for the visitors.
Barcelona will be aiming to end the LaLiga campaign on a positive note to take into next season, even though they will finish comfortably off the pace of Real Madrid at the summit. Xavi has turned around the fortunes of the Catalan club that were at one point struggling for a top-four finish. However, they found their momentum in the second half of the campaign and will want to end the term with a five-match unbeaten run, although they were held to a goalless draw last time out by Getafe.
Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the LaLiga clash between Barcelona and Villarreal at the Camp Nou.
