Commentary

France can breathe a sigh of relief, then, and prepare for their trip to Denmark with their fate in their own hands. Their great escape is only half-done, but they've got an excellent chance of pulling it off. That's all for now. Goodbye!
France's win lifts them to third in Group A1, a point above the Austrians. The hosts had 22 shots here and were worthy winners. Their place in League A isn't secure yet, but Austria now need to beat group leaders Croatia at home in their last game to have a chance of staying up. That's due to France's superior head-to-head record.
France have finally picked up their first win in Group A1! Les Bleus had Austria's number all game and went ahead early in the second half thanks to Mbappe's wonderful dribble and strike. Giroud's header put the result beyond the visitors, who didn't offer much at all really.
90' + 3' FULL-TIME: FRANCE 2-0 AUSTRIA
R. Kolo Muani
K. Mbappé
90' + 2' Mbappe won't be adding to his tally here, but he's done his job. France hand the Eintracht Frankfurt forward Kolo Muani his international debut for what will be a matter of seconds.
90' We have two more minutes of this to go, and maybe time for another France goal. Mbappe darts down the left once more, opens his body up and curls wide of the far post with his right foot.
89' Areola races off his line to claim an Austrian throughball. That might be his main action since coming on at half-time.
87' Ljubicic's cross from the right causes France some problems as Schlager and Baumgartner have shots blocked, earning Austria a corner. The hosts clear it first time. Nkunku lays off to Mbappe, whose attempted return pass is blocked. He elects to blast over on the volley instead.
85' France get a throw-in in their own half. The game's felt like it's been winding down ever since Giroud scored.
83' Two minutes go by without very much happening until Mbappe knocks the ball past Trimmel, only to have his run stopped by Posch.
81' It feels like Austria know they've been beaten. Rangnick's men enjoy a spell on the ball without much urgency at all.
O. Dembélé
A. Griezmann
79' Griezmann, who assisted Giroud's goal, heads off too. On comes Dembele for France.
C. Nkunku
O. Giroud
79' The evergreen Giroud leaves the pitch. Nkunku takes his place up front for France.
78' France are preparing another round of substitutions. They've had 74.2 per cent possession in the last 15 minutes.
76' The fans in the Stade de France are already in a celebratory mood. Austria are posing France no problems at the back whatsoever.
74' Fofana's cute backheel in midfield doesn't pay off. Saliba clears Austria's resulting cross.
72' Pentz claims a low France cross from the right. He's not been at fault for either of France's two goals.
S. Posch
D. Alaba
70' Alaba wanders off the pitch too. Posch replaces the Austria captain.
R. Schmid
M. Sabitzer
69' Austria substitution. The Werder Bremen midfielder Schmid replaces Sabitzer.
67' Mbappe squanders the chance to make it 3-0, bursting into the box and rounding Pentz only to take the ball a touch too wide. The offside flag spares his blushes anyway.
A. Griezmann
Assist
65' Griezmann's delivery for Giroud was perfect, coming in at just the right height for the striker. It's put France in a very strong position now.
O. Giroud
Goal
65' GOAL! FRANCE 2-0 AUSTRIA! Giroud leaps up and plants a header into the net from Griezmann's right-wing cross. The 35-year-old has still got it, and France's victory is all but secured!
C. Baumgartner
K. Onisiwo
64' Onisiwo's game for Austria is over too. Baumgartner comes on for him.
M. Gregoritsch
M. Arnautović
64' Austria freshen up their front line. Gregoritsch replaces Arnautovic first.
63' France construct their next attack as a Mexican wave goes around the Stade de France. Austria are still offering very little going forward.
61' Mbappe picks up the ball deep and tries to roll in Giroud again. This time he's unsuccessful. Seconds later, France's talisman scuffs wide from distance. He's their main man here, for sure.
60' Giroud latches onto Mbappe's throughball and takes a tumble in Austria's box as he's muscled over by Alaba. The referee isn't interested in giving France a penalty.
58' France have ended a run of 168 minutes without a goal in the Nations League. Now they want more.
O. Giroud
Assist
56' Giroud did very well to find Mbappe just as he had plenty of space to run into. The PSG man certainly made the most of it.
K. Mbappé
Goal
56' GOAL! FRANCE 1-0 AUSTRIA! France have the lead they need! Austria get caught upfield and Giroud feeds Mbappe. The forward skips through a crowd of Austria defenders and lashes home from the centre of the box. He's turned up when his country needs him.
54' Mbappe snatches at a chance from outside the box, dragging the ball wide of the post. France don't need to rush just yet.
52' Chance for France! Clauss finds the time to fire over the crossbar from the right of the box. Austria switched off for a second.
51' Sabitzer's shot from long range down the left is blocked. Schlager tries to take a touch in France's box but can't master the ball.
D. Ljubičić
A. Weimann
50' Austria make the change they need to. Ljubicic comes on to replace Weimann, who's been one of their livelier players.
49' Weimann looks out of sorts. It looks like he injured himself going into a challenge with Griezmann. He'll have to be replaced.
48' Mendy reaches the byline and cuts the ball back for Giroud, whose first-time volley cannons off a defender and out for a corner. The delivery is all wrong.
46' France get the second half started. If they carry on playing like they did in the first, it'd be a big surprise if they don't score.
A. Aréola
M. Maignan
46' France make a half-time change. Areola replaces Maignan in goal.
France had 15 shots to Austria's one in the first half. Deschamps' men have failed to score a first-half goal in all five of their games in this Nations League campaign, which goes to show why they're propping up Group A1. They really shouldn't be on this evidence.
It's goalless at half-time here at the Stade de France despite France's best efforts. The world champions are controlling the game but haven't managed to break down hardworking Austria yet. Badiashile's overhead kick and Griezmann's follow-up, both saved by Pentz, are the closest Les Bleus have come to scoring so far.
45' + 2' HALF-TIME: FRANCE 0-0 AUSTRIA
45' + 1' Mbappe gets in behind Austria's defence and beats the onrushing Pentz, but the Paris Saint-Germain forward is at too tight an angle to shoot himself. He finds Fofana who somehow fires wide. That's all for now!
45' There'll be two additional minutes at the end of this first half.
44' Onisiwo gets on the end of a cross to head against his marker. He thinks he's won Austria a corner, but the offside flag goes up against him instead.
42' Griezmann's strike from outside the box is blocked. Mbappe checks onto his right foot near the D and fires a solid effort into the arms of Pentz.
40' Austria get players forward for the first time in a while. Arnautovic curls a cross in the direction of Weimann, but Weimann's route to goal is blocked off.
39' Giroud fires high and wide from Clauss' decent cross. France are on top but Austria are holding their own.
A. Weimann
Yellow Card
38' Weimann's shown the game's first yellow card for a slightly reckless challenge on Tchouameni.
36' How have France not scored here?! Tchouameni's shot deflects out for a corner. From it, Badiashile's acrobatic overhead kick gets pushed onto the crossbar by Pentz! The Austria goalkeeper gets straight back up to block Griezmann's close-range effort on the landing.
34' Griezmann wins possession for France and looks to play the ball forward quickly. Lienhart pushes Giroud over from behind to hand the hosts a free-kick.
32' Austria are seeing slightly more of the ball now. Lienhart's slip in possession almost lands the visitors in trouble, but he quickly recovers before France can capitalise on his error.
30' Onisiwo closes down Saliba to prevent him from clearing the ball. France get a throw-in and soon do so anyway.
28' An Austria attack breaks down and Clauss gallops forward on the counter-attack. His early cross for Giroud is headed safely out for a throw-in.
27' France are upping their tempo. Mbappe has a pop at goal from the edge of the box that bounces just wide.
26' France have their best chance yet to open the scoring! Mbappe plays a one-two with his strike partner Giroud to skip into the box and fires straight at the onrushing Pentz.
24' Austria enjoy their first shot of the game. Sabitzer's howitzer from range whistles past the top right corner of the net.
W. Saliba
J. Koundé
23' Here's that enforced France substitution. Arsenal centre-back Saliba replaces the stricken Kounde.
22' Kounde leaves the pitch looking disappointed. His departure's an unfortunate blow for France.
20' Kounde has picked up a knock. It looks like he won't be able to continue. The Barcelona defender sits down on the turf and removes his shin pads. Saliba is warming up.
18' Tchouameni just fails to take down the ball in the box after making a run from deep. France have had 65.7 per cent of possession so far.
16' Austria manage to deal with the corner. The visitors have nowhere to go at the moment though.
14' Mbappe bursts down the left and cuts the ball back for a team-mate. Griezmann's curler from the edge of the box gets blocked. France have another corner.
12' Tchouameni's shot from range deflects out for France's first corner of the game. Griezmann swings it into the box and Giroud and Clauss have snap shots blocked. Mbappe keeps the ball alive but can't get past two Austrian defenders.
10' It's one-way traffic at the moment. France are staying patient. Austria can't get out of their own half.
8' Lienhart trips Fofana to give France a free-kick down their left wing. It's floated into Austria's box. The ball lands to Clauss who fires way over.
6' Giroud attempts to latch onto a promising throughball over the top of Austria's defence, beating Alaba to it. Pentz spots the danger and gets there first though.
4' France are getting settled in possession. Schlager's penalised for stopping Griezmann in Austria's half.
2' France put the ball in the net straight away, but it's offside. Fofana smashes at goal from outside the box and Mbappe latches onto the rebound to fire past Pentz. The assistant's flag goes up against Mbappe right away.
1' Austria get this match underway!
The maths are simple. If France somehow lose this game, they'll be relegated to League B, while a draw would leave them needing a win and Austria probably needing to lose their last group game. With Les Bleus' last match being a trip to group leaders Denmark, can they get the win they need here to boost their survival hopes?
Ralf Rangnick's Austria have six different players from their 2-0 defeat to Denmark in their last group game. Their captain Alaba returns to action.
There are eight changes to France from their last game, a 1-0 defeat to Croatia here in June. Badiashile and Fofana are handed their first senior international caps.

The reigning world champions relied on a late Kylian Mbappe equaliser to salvage that point against the Austrians, who sit above them in third. If the hosts want to avoid an ignominous run-up to this year's World Cup, this is a game they really need to win.
France resume their Nations League campaign bottom of Group A1 and facing relegation to League B. Les Bleus will be looking to pick up their first win in the group against Austria, who they drew 1-1 with back in June.
