Dortmund are next in action on Sunday in the Bundesliga at home to Hertha Berlin. Chelsea play in the Premier League on Saturday against Southampton at Stamford Bridge.

Karim Adeyemi's strike was enough to secure a 1-0 victory for Borussia Dortmund against Chelsea in their Champions League clash. The winger scored on the break with a fantastic run and finish to notch the only goal of the game. Chelsea will be wondering how they lost as Joao Felix spurned two great chances in the first half, striking the bar with one effort. In the second half, Emre Can performed a last-ditch clearance to deny Kalidou Koulibaly on the line and Gregor Kobel denied Enzo Fernandez at the death. The Blues were full of effort, but lacked the clinical edge to find the back of the net. They will now have to come from behind in the second leg to advance to the quarter-finals.

61' Chilwell drops his shoulder to get past Brandt and looks for a cross, but Wolf gets a deflection on the ball to force it behind for a corner.

It's goalless at the break in the Champions League clash between Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea at Signal Iduna Park. The Blues have had two great chances to take the lead, but Joao Felix was unable to convert. First, he fired over the bar after a quick counter and then saw his strike clatter off the crossbar. Chelsea could be two goals to the good, letting the hosts off hook, while Dortmund came close before the break through Marius Wolf. A crucial 45 minutes awaits.

Borussia Dortmund are winless in their last 10 games against English teams in European competition, with eight of those being defeats (D2). Their last victory against an English side dates back to March 2016, when they won 2-1 away to Spurs in the Europa League. Both of their goals in that game were scored by current Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Chelsea have made three changes to their side from their draw against West Ham. Noni Madueke and Benoit Badiashile miss out, while Cucurella drops to the bench. Ziyech, Koulibaly and Chilwell all come into the side tonight for Potter.

Dortmund have made four changes to their side from their win over Werder Bremen last time out. Youssouf Moukoko misses out due to injury and is replaced by Haller in the final third, who makes his Champions League debut. Chelsea woes under Graham Potter continued last time out as the Blues were held to a 1-1 draw by West Ham United after taking the lead through Joao Felix. The Blues have won just one out of their last eight matches and need a positive result to stem the tide. Chelsea finished top of Group E, winning four of their six matches, so they have been playing well in the competition. Potter needs his side to forward a solid performance tonight to leave the contest in their hands for the return leg at Stamford Bridge.

Dortmund advanced to the round of 16 by finishing in Group G behind Manchester City. Edin Terzic's men were solid enough to secure their place in the knockout phase, but will need to raise their game tonight against the Blues on home soil. Die Schwarzgelben have won their last six matches in a row in all competitions, including their 2-0 triumph over Werder Bremen last time out. They are in prime form, but need to deliver to take an advantage into the second leg.
