The Walia Ibex have returned home to Ethiopia after the group stages of Afcon but signed off with a credible 1-1 draw against knockout stage qualifiers Burkina Faso.

    It had been almost nine years since the Walia Ibex had last played at the Africa Cup of Nations held in South Africa in 2013 when they walked onto the pitch to play their opening fixture against Cape Verde.

    Ethiopia scored two goals at Afcon 2021. Dawa Hotessa opened the scoring against Cameroon in their second group match at Paul Biya Stadium, Olembe. Then, in their final group match against Burkina Faso, Getaneh Kebede scored an equaliser from the penalty spot.

    Coach Wubetu Abate used 13 substitutes in the Walia Ibex's three group matches. Five subs in the opener against Cape Verde, five in the Match Day 2 loss to Cameroon, and three in the final group match against Burkina Faso.
