Cameroon head coach Rigobert Song has named the Indomitable Lions' starting XI to face Brazil at Lusail Iconic Stadium on Friday.
With only one point from their two games against Switzerland and Serbia, the Africans must beat Brazil to stand a chance to progress to the Round of 16. Apart from winning, they must hope for either a draw, or for Serbia to beat Switzerland by a one-goal margin in the other game.
How Cameroon are lining up:
Replaced Andre Onana and conceded three as Cameroon picked up their first point in the competition against Serbia.
He has maintained the Cameroonian gloves as they face the world giants in a decisive game.
Fai has been a trusted soldier at the right back and faces a tougher test as he expected to keep the Brazilian wingers at bay.
At left-back, Tolo faces an equally big challenge because he has to make sure the Samba Boys are contained effectively.
Wooh has been paired up with Enzo Ebosse at the heart of defence with Jean-Charles Castelletto and Nicolas Nkoulou – the usual centre-backs - missing from the matchday squad.
The Udinese defender gets a starting berth as Song tinkers with his defensive unit.
He and Nicolas Ngamaleu partner in the middle of the pack, and coming up against talented Brazilian midfielders means they must be on top of their game.
With Zambo Anguissa, Ngamaleu, and Kunde in the team, Song has preferred to deploy more manpower in the midfield in an attempt to frustrate Brazil’s attacking strategy.
Ngamaleu slots into the midfield as Karl Toko Ekambi is benched.
Given the good form he enjoyed with Bayern Munich before the World Cup and the goal scored against Serbia, the striker is expected to deal with constant surveillance from the Brazilian defence force.
Although Cameroon did not win their opening match against Switzerland, Mbeumo showed individual brilliance from the flank.
He has been trusted to mount attacks from there again.
A goal and an assist against Serbia were enough to convince Song to name Aboubakar in the starting XI.
He has been making appearances from the bench as Choupo-Moting was preferred to the lead attack in the previous games.
