Barcelona's top 10 away and third kits of all time - ranked

Ronaldinho loved a long-sleeved Barcelona kit. He had plenty of memorable moments in them, highlighted by a now-famous Man-of-the-Match performance at Santiago Bernabeu that brought Real Madrid fans to their feet.

This shirt, meanwhile, was associated with another iconic moment, the Brazilian's toe-poke finish from outside the box against Chelsea in the 2005 Champions League last 16. Although Jose Mourinho's Blues would go on to win, this kit is associated with one of the great European goals.

This strip was a special one for local Barca fans. For the first time in the club's history, Barcelona donned a kit based on the Catalan flag. There were other details that connected it to the club's local roots, too, including the "Mes que un club" motto stitched onto the back of the neck lining.

Outside of the local area, the kit split opinion. And as some publications pointed out, the Blaugrana enjoyed limited success in the shirt, going winless in their first five contests wearing it.

Still, its homage to Barcelona's Catalan heritage made the kit important in its own right.

Can a kit released so recently be considered among the best ever? This gold strip from the most recent season certainly makes a case.

It's one of the best shirts Nike has designed for Barca for some time, with its bold colourway paying homage to some of Barcelona's memorable kits of the early 2000s (more on that later), as well as the 30th anniversary of the 1992 Olympic Games that were held in the city.

And it will likely be associated with success, too. The Blaugrana won back the Liga title in 2023, an achievement that will forever immortalise this kit.

Ronaldo only played for Barcelona for one year. And in those 12 glorious months, he donned some memorable kits. The home shirt, an effortlessly cool reimagination of the classic 80s strip, is one of the best ever. And the away one wasn't bad, either.

The Brazilian wore it while playing out one of the best individual seasons in Barcelona's history. Ronaldo scored 47 times in 49 appearances, including 34 in the league. And although his time in Catalunya ended after one year, he will forever be associated with breathtaking goals and classic kits.

This kit really shouldn't have worked, and famously drew the ire of a large section of Barcelona fans. And they might have had a point. Green football kits are hard to pull off, especially when there's no obvious connection between the shade and the team that wears it.

But this one was salvaged by the red and blue stripe across the chest, enough of a homage to the traditional Blaugrana colours to stay within the Barca theme.

In truth, the kit could have been hideous and still considered among the club's classics. Barca won a historic treble of trophies in 2010-11, a feat that led to Sir Alex Ferguson famously dubbing the team one of the best ever.

The famous "MSN" trio wore some memorable kits in their three years in Catalunya, and this was the pick of the bunch. Although criticised for sharing a similar template with Manchester City's third kit of the same year, the Barca version was far more interesting than City's rather drab colourway.

Almost exclusively worn in the Champions League, the bright strip is associated with one of the best European runs ever, as the Blaugrana tore through the competition to win their third trophy of the year.

Barcelona have been trying to recreate this kit for almost 40 years — with limited success. And it's easy to see why the club would want to emulate it. It is, of course, a crucial part of the team's history. Anything worn at any point by the legendary Johan Cruyff is.

The Dutchman, of course, brought immense success to Camp Nou at a time when it was at a premium. He led the Blaugrana to a first La Liga title in early 15 years in 1974 and won the Copa del Rey four years later. This strip, which by now probably feels more like a heavy t-shirt, was arguably his finest look.

What better way to redeem a poor two years than with a gorgeous kit? This Barcelona side was between eras, and it showed on the pitch. Nineties legends such as Pep Guardiola and Rivaldo were coming towards the end of their careers, while young stars like Carles Puyol and Xavi were only just growing into the team.

Barcelona finished 4th in 2002, and 6th in 2003. This glittery gold number, then, did not bring any significant success. But it was absolutely beautiful.

Another poor season marked by a wonderful strip, the 2007-08 campaign saw Barcelona deprived of silverware but full of reasons for excitement. Although manager Frank Rijkaard and Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldinho would depart at the end of the season, the Blaugrana were very much a team on the rise.

Thierry Henry arrived from Arsenal, a certain Lionel Messi established homself in the side, and Eric Abidal was also brought into the fray. And in July 2008, Guardiola took charge of training for the first time. Things didn't go too poorly from there...

With the quality of player Barcelona have had over the years, it's hard to believe that it took them until 1992 to win a European Cup. That campaign was certainly a memorable one, with the Blaugrana knocking out Benfica and Dynamo Kyiv, before edging first-time finalists Sampdoria to take home the trophy.

It was one of the great triumphs of Cruyff's time at the helm, and is accompanied by one of the great shirts.
