The Lionel Messi saga unravelled: All the offers PSG star has on the table, what he wants & what comes next - including a £350m move to Saudi Arabia

The most recent offer tabled would see Messi join up with Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia - for almost double the Portuguese's wages.

Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal have already sent the PSG talisman an eye-watering offer of £350 million ($436m) per year, GOAL can confirm, far surpassing Ronaldo's salary of £177m ($221m).

The proposed move would see Messi and Ronaldo spearhead the emergence of Saudi Arabian football, and set up the first head-to-head league meetings between the pair since 2018.

Despite forcing him out almost two years ago, Barcelona now seem intent on bringing Messi back to where it all began.

Such has been the open declarations from various members of the Catalan club, including president Joan Laporta, vice-president Rafa Yuste, current manager Xavi, and former team-mates Thierry Henry and Sergio Aguero.

However, as in 2021, the financial element could prove vital. Barca need to reduce their salary limit by £200m, and are thought to have sought external sponsors to try and fund Messi's transfer.

Despite these links, though, GOAL can confirm that no formal offers have been made by the Catalan club, nor has there been any direct contact between Messi and Laporta.

Of course, there is nothing ruling out the fact that Messi may stay in the French capital.

His entourage said as much in an interview with Le Parisien on Wedndesday: "We won’t make a public statement, but not only is it clear that Leo and the club are negotiating, but the club want Leo to stay, as the manager (Christophe Galtier) recently said."

Whistles from his own fans in Sunday's loss to Lyon will do little to tempt the player into staying. But GOAL can confirm that, while the verbal agreement in place before the World Cup no longer stands, the negotiations are far from broken and an extension offer is currently on the table.

Links with Major League Soccer refuse to go away, most prominently to Phil Neville's Inter Miami.

Elsewhere, a recent report suggested that, should he accept a switch to the United States, Messi would be eligible to choose any of MLS' 29 teams as his next destination.

Certain figures in MLS have also claimed that the transfer "is going to happen", although as yet no concrete offers have been tabled.

Messi, for his part, is aware of Barcelona's interest and the offer from Al-Hilal, while also continuing negotiations at the capital club.

The key factor for the 35-year-old, GOAL can reveal, is his desire to play at the highest level. That may put a halt to, or at least delay, moves to Saudi Arabia or MLS, but it may also have ramifications for his contract at PSG.

GOAL understands that Messi will wait to find out who will be the coach for next season. He will also see whether the likes of Sergio Ramos, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar will stay on, as well as assessing the potential list of summer recruits.

Financially, it has already been reported that the Argentine would be unwilling to take a pay cut. But GOAL has learned that this should not be a stumbling block in negotiations with the Parisians.

Thus far, despite all the noise around his next destination, Messi has two offers on the table.

The first is an extension on his current PSG deal beyond this summer, while the recent mega-money offer from Al-Hilal came in earlier this week.

It remains to be seen whether MLS, Barcelona or any other clubs attempt to capitalise on Messi's drawn out negotiations with PSG, before the Argentina star eventually makes a decision on his future.
