    Preview of Africans in Europe

With the football coming thick and fast, this weekend brings up yet another series of interesting fixtures across the popular leagues.

There is plenty of intrigue in the Premier League title race, as Edouard Mendy and Chelsea face a tough trip to West Ham United in danger of losing top spot to either Riyad Mahrez’s Manchester City or Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane’s Liverpool, who are away at Wolverhampton Wanderers and Watford respectively.

At Old Trafford, Wilfried Zaha and his Crystal Palace teammates aim to stun Manchester United in Ralf Rangnick’s PL bow.

  • Edouard Mendy Chelsea 2021-22

    West Ham vs Chelsea

Thomas Tuchel’s team were outplayed for the majority of their game at Watford but ran away with a 2-1 win.

The Blues are away at West Ham United looking to continue their unbeaten run away from home, and Mendy will be key to the Premier League leaders’ prospects.

Hakim Ziyech has been more decisive of late for the Blues, scoring the winner at Vicarage Road, and is pushing for a start at the London Stadium.

Chelsea are in danger of being supplanted at the top of the league if they drop points at their cross-town rivals, an eventuality they will want to avoid this weekend.

Said Benrahma is expected to feature for David Moyes’ top four-chasing side, looking for their first victory in four games.

  • Salah Mane Liverpool 07032020

    Salah & Mane

Mohamed Salah continued his amazing form in front of goal this season with a brace in Liverpool's 4-1 Merseyside derby success in midweek.

The Egypt superstar is now up to 13 league goals this term and is expected to start against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon looking to add to his haul.

Mane missed the chance to increase his league tally in midweek in the derby but the Senegal man will back himself to score at Molineux after two domestic games without finding the back of the net.

With Chelsea away at West Ham in the early kick-off, Liverpool could be top before Manchester City play Watford provided they better the Blues’ result.

  • Riyad Mahrez Man City 2021-22

    Riyad Mahrez

Premier League starts were a rarity for Mahrez before Sunday, but the Manchester City wide attacker has played the last two from the off—starting in 2-1 wins over West Ham and Aston Villa.

It remains to be seen if Pep Guardiola hands the North African his fifth PL start in the tea-time clash with Watford, especially with the Cityzens in Champions League action next week.

Second-place City could end the day top of the league if they win at Vicarage Road and table-topping Chelsea drop points at West Ham.

  • Patrick Vieira and Wilfried Zaha of Crystal Palace

    Man United vs Palace

Crystal Palace have had a bit of a wobble in the last week, losing back-to-back games against Aston Villa and Leeds United.

Patrick Vieira will hope for a response from his group when they face the daunting prospect of a trip to Manchester United, looking to ruin Ralf Rangnick’s big day in the dugout.

Wilfried Zaha, Jordan Ayew and Cheikhou Kouyate could all play at Old Trafford as the Eagles aim for a third successive triumph at the Theatre of Dreams having claimed victories there in the last two seasons.

  • Kessie Milan

    Franck Kessie

The Ivory Coast man featured in midweek as AC Milan ended a three-game run without winning with a 3-0 success over Genoa.

The success took them within a point of Serie A leaders Napoli, who dropped two points having led Sassuolo 2-0, and the Rossoneri will back themselves to pick up maximum points over cellar-dwelling Salernitana.

With a make-or-break Champions League clash with Liverpool next week, Stefano Pioli will have a huge decision to make over his regular starters, Kessie inclusive.

Given injury-plagued Napoli are facing Atalanta and in-form Inter Milan (who sit a point adrift of Milan) are away at AS Roma, the Rossoneri could be the big winners in round 16 if they win and results elsewhere go their way.
