Unai Emery hailed the qualities of playmaker Mesut Ozil following Arsenal's 3-1 win over Leicester, but said the German needs to produce that level on a weekly basis.
Ozil has cut a divisive figure since moving to the Emirates Stadium under Arsene Wenger in 2013, with his attitude often questioned.
However, he turned in a world-class display on Monday as the London club came from behind to secure a 3-1 win over the Foxes , with a couple of second-half goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang turning the game in their favour.
It was, however, Ozil who grabbed the spotlight, even branding the performance "sexy" , but Emery wants him to produce such quality on more regular a basis.
“For Mesut, it was a very good performance, and a very good victory together. And also we are going to push and demand for ourselves and for him also, this regularly,” he said.
The former Real Madrid player was handed the captain’s armband for the match and was praised by the way he rallied his side after they had fallen behind due to an own goal from Hector Bellerin.
Ozil grabbed the equaliser, making him the top scoring German in Premier League history with 30 goals, and then dominated the game from midfield in the second half.
“It’s important to be a leader in this situation,” the Spaniard said. “But we have a lot of players in the team capable of doing it.
“I think Ozil can play every match with this commitment and with this quality, whether he is captain or not.”
It has been a rocky period in the life of the 30-year-old, who quit the Germany national side in the summer amid a storm of criticism, with Ozil claiming he was specifically targeted because of his Turkish heritage.
Arsenal’s win over Leicester was their 10th straight victory in all competitions – the first time that they have enjoyed such a run of form since 2007.
