Moses Simon outshines Taiwo Awoniyi as Gent defeat Royal Excel Mouscron

Moses Simon weighed in with a goal and an assist to subdue Taiwo Awoniyi’s impact in Gent’s 3-1 win over Royal Excel Mouscron in Friday’s Belgian First Division A fixture.

Following their 3-1 defeat of Lokeren in their last league outing, Yves Vanderhaeghe’s men extended their winning streak to three games.

Simon took his goal tally to three in 12 league games this campaign with a 29th-minute opener from the penalty spot.

Four minutes later, Awoniyi, on a season-long loan move from Liverpool, registered his fourth goal in 14 top-flight appearances to pull Mircea Rednic’s men levelled.

Yuya Kubo put the Buffalos ahead again after he was set up by the Super Eagles winger in the 39th minute.

Dylan Bronn's 74th-minute goal sealed the victory for the hosts.

Simon and compatriot Anderson Esiti played for the entire duration for the Buffalos as well as Awoniyi who has made 12 starts for Mouscron this campaign.

Gent moved to the sixth spot in the Belgian top-flight with 22 points from 16 games and they visit Zulte-Waregem for their next league outing after Wednesday’s Cup tie against Lokeren.

While Royal Excel Mouscron dropped to 11th place with 19 points from 16 games and will welcome Sporting Charleroi for their Belgian Cup game on Tuesday before their league encounter against Sint-Truiden on December 2.
