The Soweto giants are hoping to clinch their first major trophy since 2014, but the Brazilians still have control of their own destiny

Orlando Pirates head coach Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic lauded his players following their emphatic victory over Bidvest Wits on Wednesday night.

The Buccaneers kept their Premier Soccer League (PSL) title ambitions alive with a 4-0 win over a hapless Wits side at the Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg.

As a result, Pirates, who remained second on the league standings, cut league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns' lead to just four points with two matches left.

Sredojevic's side also qualified for the next season's Caf Champions League by securing a top two finish in the league.

The Serbian tactician stated that his charges followed his instructions hence they emerged victorious over last season's PSL champions.

“First of all, I want to give credit to the players, they worked very hard. They prepared themselves," Sredojevic told SuperSport TV.

"We knew with today’s win we are collecting 52 points. And after six years, we’re entering the top-two of the PSL and qualifying for Africa," he continued.

“I want to thank the players, technical team. We have achieved a very important target. I also want to thank the players for today’s game," Micho added.

"They followed the instructions. It’s very hard to play against Bidvest Wits," the former Rwanda and Uganda coach revealed.

“They’re a team who goes for percentage football, sending those long balls and crosses all the time. So you need to be ready for them," he said.

“Once you’re limiting them, you are giving an advantage to yourselves. So there are many things we’re proud of because we scored during the critical elements of the game," Sredojevic concluded.

The Buccaneers will take on Cape Town City in the Mother City on Saturday, before hosting Free State Stars at the Orlando Stadium on the 12th of May 2018.

They will be hoping that their PSL title rivals Sundowns drop points in their last two matches which are against Ajax Cape Town and Bloemfontein Celtic.
