The former Black Stars goalkeeper believes local shot-stoppers have the quality to seize a starting role in the senior national team

Ghana goalkeeping coach Richard Kingson says local goalkeepers have the potential to become first choice in the Black Stars setup.

The former Blackpool star has been training with goalkeepers Joseph Addo, Felix Annan, Richard Ofori and Razak Abalora as the Black Stars 'B' prepare for the 2018 Chan qualifying game against Burkina Faso in June.

''We have good goalkeepers but just that they need directions on what to do and what not to do on and out of the field because goalkeeping is their job,'' Kingson told Kwese TV.

''So if you have people out there who will come together so that we can bring up the quality in the goalkeepers, I think they can reach far.

''I will use myself as an example. When I was at Accra Great Olympics in 1996, I was a local goalkeeper and was invited to the national team. That was before I became a professional player so I have that belief that they can also become first choice in the Black Stars before they move abroad," he added.

Kingson was part of the Black Stars squad in Ghana’s maiden participation at the Fifa World Cup in 2006 as well as the 2010 edition.
