After successfully defending the title they won in 2016, Bloemfontein Celtic Ladies have now set their sights on becoming only the second team to win the Sasol League National Championships three years in a row.
Celtic Ladies retained the Sasol League National Championships trophy they won last year by dispatching Cape Town Roses 2-0 in the final played on Saturday at Kabokweni Stadium to claim the R200 000 cheque.
A feat that star defender and Diski Queen of the Tournament Bambanani Mbane feels sets the tone for their intentions for the annual national women championship games.
“Next season is going to be memorable and enjoyable,” Mbane said.
“We want to keep this trophy in Bloemfontein for good by winning it for a third year in a row. There are young players looking up to us. We have to inspire them by doing well and succeeding so that they know what’s the benchmark. Winning trophies will motivate them.”
In doing so, the Free State Side would match a record currently held by Palace Super Falcons who won it three times in 2010, 2011 and 2012 respectively.
Celtic Ladies have been in every championship playoffs since the inauguration of the tournament in 2009 but before last year, they've never finished higher than fifth.
