Gor Mahia set to defend Super Cup trophy in expanded eight team tournament

Gor Mahia will have a chance to test their strength against Tanzania giants Yanga should both teams cross paths during Super Cup tournament in Nairobi.

Gor Mahia and Yanga, who will clash on July 17 in Caf Confederation Cup, are among the eight teams that will battle for a chance to play Everton during the tourney to be held in Kenya.

The tournament has been expanded to eight teams with Kariobangi Sharks and Kakamega Homeboyz among the new faces that will battle to dethrone Gor Mahia and book a chance to play against the English Premier League side.

The tournament, that was first held in Tanzania last July, will move to Nairobi from June 3 to 10.

Tanzania mainland will also be represented by Simba SC, Yanga, Singida United and Zanzibar’s Jeshi la Kujenga Uchumi.

The eventual winner will carry home Sh3 million beside playing Everton with the first and second runners-up taking a million and Sh750, 000 respectively.

Gor Mahia clinched the inaugural edition held in Tanzania after they beat rivals AFC Leopards 3-0 in the final.

K'Ogalo eventually lost to 2-1 to Everton with Wayne Rooney getting on the score sheet with a long-range shot.
