Kolkata heavyweights Mohun Bagan are set to face Bengaluru FC in the final battle of 2017 Federation Cup on Sunday evening. Sanjoy Sen's army has maintained an unbeaten run in the tournament having won thrice and shared spills once against the Blues in the final league phase fixture.
Easily the toughest contingent of the competition, Mohun Bagan will put up a tough game for the JSW owned side who will be without the services of skipper Sunil Chhetri and midfielder Cameron Watson. Head coach Sanjoy Sen has expressed the Mariners ' confidence stating that the side is fully prepared for Sunday's showdown. Further, the gaffer mentioned that the Maroon and Green Brigade has a totally fit squad for the finale.
''Mohun Bagan are definitely ready to play the final hundred percent. I don't have any injury concerns in my team. The boys are fit and ready to go for tomorrow,'' he mentioned.
The 56-year-old coach came close to winning the I-League this season but missed on the championship title by a point. However, being in pole position for the tournament glory this time, Sanjoy Sen's lone target now is to lay his hands on the cup. ''The only aim is to win the trophy now,'' he said optimistically.
The final on Sunday will mark the two sides' third meeting in less than ten days. The Southern Eagles and the Mariners locked horns on 17th May in the AFC Cup tie at Kolkata which saw the hosts get the better of the South India outfit. And five days prior to the clash in the Asian tournament, the two contingents shared spills in the last league phase tie of the Federation Cup.
On being asked if the timely encounters helps the squads in deciphering the tactics of the team, the former Prayag United boss answered, ''There are definitely advantages and disadvantages of playing one team again and again. They have studied are players similarly we have studied their players too. So this makes for an interesting final. The ones who will watch the finals well enjoy. We will be facing one of the best teams in India.''
Under Sanjoy Sen's reign, Mohun Bagan clinched India's top tier league title in 2015 followed by the Federation Cup victory the next year. When quizzed about the importance of adding another laurel to his existing collection, the coach replied, ''I am not concerned about my career, I am concerned about Mohun Bagan. Of course winning titles is what all players want and I try and help in that cause.''
The finale will be held at the Barabati Stadium on Sunday evening with the tie kicking off at 19:00 IST.
