Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has lauded Yannick Bolasie for his impact and progress in the team.

Bolasie joined the Championship club from Everton on loan in the summer in a quest for regular playing minutes.

The decision seems to be paying off with the winger scoring two goals in nine league outings, all as a substitute.

Bolasie made a cameo appearance in Smith's maiden game at the helm of the club against Swansea City last month and was later dropped in the subsequent game against Norwich City.

However, Saturday's display after coming on as a 73rd-minute substitute for Albert Adomah has convinced the former Brentford gaffer of the Congo DR international's abilities.

“I am really pleased with how he’s responded. I thought he was a real threat when he came on against Bolton," Smith told club website.

“He looked powerful. He looked quick. He looked strong. He looked a bag full of tricks. That’s what I remember of him.

“I thought he did that when he came off the bench against QPR, too. It’s pleasing we have someone of that quality who’s getting better and better.”

Bolasie will look forward to helping the Villa Park outfit build on their last win when they visit Derby County for Saturday's league encounter.

Aston Villa sit in the 14th spot in the Championship log with 21 points from 16 matches.
