The Warriors are seeking their first victory from the last six matches and Effiong who is an important member of the team stated that they are going into their home clash with the Pride of Rivers with the determination to halt their recent unimpressive results in Umuahia.
“We have not beaten any team in our last matches at home and we have become very agitated as a result of this,” Effiong told Goal.
"We are approaching Sunday's game with all seriousness knowing that another disappointing result won’t help our cause to finish the season on a high note. We are going to do our utmost to surprise Rivers United and we are calling on all our fans to get behind us to make the three points achievable.
“It was unfortunate that we had to surrender our unbeaten run against Nasarawa United where we were narrowly beaten. It was a game we gave our all but we lost and we need to focus on this game to ensure that we claim the three points at stake."
The former U23 star charged his teammates to do a repeat of last season’s 4-1 thrashing of Rivers United and thus turn their season around.
“We know that Rivers United are a tough side but we beat 4-1 last season in the final game of the season and I know that we can repeat that feat if we go into the match with all seriousness,” he continued.
“We should not be afraid of them and we should try to create goal scoring opportunities from where goals could come. I believe we can get the job done despite Rivers United’s present form.”
Abia Warriors are 12th in the league table with 22 points from 18 matches.
