That's all from us today folks, we hope you enjoyed the game!
This victory sends Liverpool into second in the Premier League, but 11 points behind Manchester City, meanwhile Brentford remain 14th. Next up for Liverpool is a trip to the Emirates for their EFL Cup semi-final against Arsenal, before travelling to Crystal Palace next weekend. Brentford host Manchester United on Wednesday.
Liverpool end their winless run with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Brentford at Anfield. They led 1-0 at the break thanks to Fabinho and continued to dominate in the second half, getting their reward on 69 minutes through Oxlade-Chamberlain’s header, before Minamino rounded off the win eight minutes later after a mistake at the back by Brentford. They could have scored a few more, but Fernandez in the Brentford goal was in superb form and pulled off a number of excellent saves to deny them.
90' + 3' FULL-TIME: LIVERPOOL 3-0 BRENTFORD
90' + 2' It looks like Liverpool will comfortably see this game out and run out 3-0 winners. The Brentford fans are still getting behind their side, but any goal they score now will only be a consolation.
90' There will be a minimum of two minutes added time played at the end of the second half.
88' CHANCE! Another excellent save by Fernandez to deny Liverpool! Gordon is fed through on goal and he only has the keeper to beat as he races into the penalty area. However, his effort is straight at the keeper, who makes a great stop.
86' There's just a few minutes left on the clock now, will we see any more Liverpool goals before the full-time whistle?
84' Following a six-game winning run in November/December, Liverpool are winless in their last three Premier League games (D2 L1), giving away a lead in both of those draws. However, at home the Reds are unbeaten in 13 in the Premier League (W9 D4), winning each of the last four in a row.
K. Gordon
Diogo Jota
82' Final Liverpool change, with Jota coming off and he has been replaced by Gordon.
80' It's very comfortable for Liverpool now, they can sense that the game is wrapped up and won, so aren't playing with as much intensity.
J. Milner
Roberto Firmino
78' The third Liverpool goal is Firmino's last piece of action today, as he is replaced by Milner.
Roberto Firmino
Assist
77' Firmino could have gone for goal himself there, but he unselfishly set up his team-mate instead, who made no mistakes with the finish in the six-yard box.
T. Minamino
Goal
77' GOAL! Minamino makes it 3-0! Brentford try to play it out from the back, but Firmino wins it off Norgaard right on the edge of the box and he lays it off to Minamino. They then play a quick one-two in the six-yard box, before Minamino slides the ball home from close range. Poor by Brentford, they’ve handed Liverpool a goal on a plate there.
M. Jensen
B. Mbeumo
75' Third and final substitution by the visitors now, with Mbeumo replaced by Jensen.
T. Minamino
A. Oxlade-Chamberlain
74' Here is the enforced Liverpool change, with Oxlade-Chamberlain limping off and Minamino heads on.
73' Let's hope it not too serious of an injury for Oxlade-Chamberlain, as he has been excellent today, creating a few chances and getting on the scoresheet.
71' Injury concern here for Liverpool as Oxlade-Chamberlain is down on the pitch with an issue and he's receiving some medical treatment. It doesn't look like he is going to be able to continue.
A. Robertson
Assist
69' Robertson looked up and spotted the run of his team-mate in the penalty area and superbly picked him out with an inch perfect cross.
A. Oxlade-Chamberlain
Goal
69' GOAL! Liverpool double their lead! Oxlade-Chamberlain heads home from close range to make it 2-0! A lovely cross is whipped into the penalty area from the left wing by Robertson and Oxlade-Chamberlain gets in behind the Brentford defence and sends his header into the back of the net. Great finish.
Y. Wissa
S. Baptiste
68' Another Brentford change now, with Baptiste replaced by Wissa.
67' GREAT SAVE! Fernandez once again denies Liverpool! Firmino sends Jota through on goal and he only has the keeper to beat, but Fernandez makes himself as big as possible and pulls off a superb save!
65' This is the first time Liverpool are hosting Brentford in any competition since March 1989, a 4-0 win in an FA Cup quarter-final tie. They last hosted the Bees in a league match back in October 1946, winning 1-0.
63' We're past the hour mark now and it remains Liverpool who lead 1-0 thanks to Fabinho's header just before the break and the Reds are yet to really test Fernandez in the Brentford goal in this second half.
61' Mbeumo's chance a few minutes ago should give Brentford some confidence that they can get something out of the game. They just need to keep it tight at the back.
59' CHANCE! Great opportunity for Brentford! Norgaard plays the ball to Mbeumo, who turns on the edge of the penalty area and fires a low effort towards the bottom left corner of the net. However, he drags it just past the post. So close!
57' Liverpool look a little short of ideas in the final third at the moment, with Firmino and Jota not getting on the ball much to try and influence the game.
55' It's all Liverpool in the opening 10 minutes of the second half, with Brentford sitting deep to soak up the pressure to try and keep the game at just 1-0.
53' Decent effort! Jota finds some space on the edge of the box and drills a low strike towards goal, but Fernandez reads it well and gets across to make a good save.
51' In league matches on the road this season, Brentford have two wins, four draws, and four losses. The Bees are looking to reverse a six-match away winless streak (W0 D2 L4). They haven't won away since October 2021 against West Ham United.
Sergi Canós
R. Henry
49' Brentford have made their first change of the game, with Henry coming off and he has been replaced by Canos.
48' Liverpool have started the second half brightly, on the front foot and looking to double their lead early on in the second period.
46' The second half is under way!
Liverpool could go on and score a few more in the second half, as they've dominated possession, but Fernandez has put in a fine performance.
Liverpool lead 1-0 at the break, after Fabinho's header fired them in front just before the half-time whistle. However, they could have scored a few more, as Oxlade-Chamberlain and Van Dijk both went close, but were superbly denied by Fernandez in the Brentford goal. Janelt went close for the visitors at the other end, but apart from that opportunity, they haven't tested the Liverpool defence, who have looked comfortable.
45' + 1' HALF-TIME: LIVERPOOL 1-0 BRENTFORD
45' There will be a minimum of one minute added time played at the end of the first half.
T. Alexander-Arnold
Assist
44' Alexander-Arnold has produced a few excellent deliveries today and his corner was perfectly whipped into the box there for Fabinho to meet and he converts at the far post.
Fabinho
Goal
44' GOAL! Liverpool take the lead just before the break! Fabinho gets away from his marker at the far post as a corner is whipped into the penalty area from the left by Alexander-Arnold and Fabinho powers a header into the bottom right corner of the net. They lead 1-0!
42' CHANCE! Brentford break forward on the counter and almost take the lead! Toney is fed in behind the Liverpool defence and he pulls the ball back to Janelt, who drills an effort towards goal. However, Robertson gets back and makes the block to deny him.
41' There isn’t long left to play before the end of the first half, can either side break the deadlock before the half-time whistle?
39' CLOSE! Liverpool lose possession right on the edge of the penalty area and Toney picks it up and tries his luck from distance. However, it flies just inches wide of the bottom left corner of the net.
37' Liverpool are without Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane due to their involvement at the African Cup of Nations, so the Reds don't have too many attacking options from the bench to change the game.
35' The hosts have dropped the pace of their game in the last few minutes and Brentford are trying to take advantage, seeing more of the ball in the Liverpool half.
33' Janelt finds a bit of time and space around 25 yards out and tries his luck from distance, but his strike flies well over the Liverpool crossbar and doesn't trouble Alisson.
32' Alisson has hardly touched the ball in the Liverpool goal so far, as Brentford are yet to create any chances in the final third. They seem to be trying to counter when they can, but haven't had the opportunities so far.
30' We’re at the half an hour mark now and it remains goalless between Liverpool and Brentford at Anfield. Van Dijk has gone the closest to opening the scoring, but Fernandez in the Brentford goal superbly denied him.
28' It's all Liverpool at the moment, they are in complete control and look eager to get on the scoresheet before half-time.
26' After a 14-game winning run, Liverpool have failed to win either of their last two Premier League home games against promoted sides, drawing against West Bromwich Albion and losing against Fulham last season. The last went three without a win in such matches between December 2000 and January 2002.
24' Firmino tries his luck from distance, but he drills his low strike well wide of the Brentford goal. Not troubling Fernandez.
22' GREAT SAVE! So close to an opening goal for Liverpool! Van Dijk controls a deep corner from the right in the box and then drills a low effort towards the bottom right corner of the net. However, Fernandez sticks out a leg and makes a superb stop to deny the defender.
20' Almost! Alexander-Arnold whips a superb free-kick into the box from the left wing, which Matip tries to meet at the far post, but he just can't quite get there in time and the ball flies out of play.
K. Ajer
Yellow Card
19' Ajer is shown the first yellow card of the game after he dives into a challenge with Jota and catches him late, getting nowhere near the ball. No complaints by the Brentford defender.
18' This is better from Brentford, they are managing to string a few passes of their own together now and relieve the pressure on their defence.
16' It's all Liverpool at the moment, they are camped inside the Brentford half and are creating a few goalscoring opportunities now.
14' CLOSE! Alexander-Arnold picks up the ball on the edge of the penalty area and fires a powerful effort towards the top right corner of the net. However, it flies just inches wide of the post. Very close!
13' CHANCE! Fabinho whips a great cross into the box from the left wing and Oxlade-Chamberlain gets behind his marker and glances a header towards the bottom right corner of the net. However, Fernandez gets across and makes a superb diving save. It wouldn't have counted anyway as the flag goes up for offside.
11' Not too far away! Jota rises high in the box as a cross is whipped into the box by Oxlade-Chamberlain and he powers a header towards goal, but it flies just over the crossbar.
9' Liverpool are unbeaten in home Premier League matches this season with six wins and three draws from their nine contests on home soil. The Reds will be out to prolong a 13-match home unbeaten streak (W9 D4 L0) dating to April 2021 against Aston Villa.
7' This is a bit better from the hosts, they are forcing Brentford to sit deep and soak up some pressure, with everyone back behind the ball. However, Liverpool are yet to get it into the final third.
5' Neither side have managed to get the ball down and control possession at the moment, it's scrappy in midfield, with both teams battling for it early on.
3' There seem to be a few technical issues at Anfield early on, with the officials having to delay kick-off due to a problem with their communication kits. Hopefully this has now all been resolved.
1' We're under way!
The teams are out on the pitch and kick-off is just a few minutes away, stay tuned for all the match action!
