Liverpool Manchester City Premier League 2021-22
GOAL has what you need to know about what two Premier League frontrunners need to do in order to be crowned champions

Manchester City looked to be dominating the race for the Premier League title, but their defeat by Tottenham at the hands of Harry Kane means that the title race has been blown open once again.

Liverpool are the Citizens' biggest challengers for the title, and remain just three points behind them – so what does each team need to do in order to lift the Premier League trophy? GOAL takes a look.

What results do Liverpool need to win the Premier League?

Both Liverpool and Manchester City have their Premier League fate in their hands.

In order to win the league, Liverpool must win all of their remaining games, including their crucial crunch clash against Manchester City in April at the Etihad, while also maintaining a superior goal difference.

As of February 25, Liverpool are on 60 points (and a superior goal difference), and Manchester City on 63 points.

And if Liverpool win their game against Manchester City in April, they will be level on 63 points (but ahead on goal difference should they win all their remaining games, or best City's form).

What results do Manchester City need to win the Premier League?

The same holds true for Manchester City.

Should Manchester City win all their remaining games, they will be crowned champions.

Any further dropping points will push the title race in Liverpool's favour once again, with Manchester City's shock 3-2 defeat by Tottenham a big signifier at how wide open the competition has become.

How many points are needed to win the Premier League?

The last three Premier League winners managed to win the competition by amassing at least 86 points.

There is no set number of points that will be needed to secure the championship, and while accruing more than 90 points sounds like more than enough to be crowned winners, Liverpool were Premier League runners-up in 2018-19 with 97 points, just one devastating point behind champions Manchester City.
