Commentary

Milan have qualified for the Champions League knockout stage for the first time since 2013-14 then. They can look forward to finding out who they'll face in the round of 16. That's all for now. Goodbye!
This result means that Milan finish second in Group E with 10 points, three behind Chelsea who've beaten Dinamo 2-1 at Stamford Bridge. Salzburg stay third and will drop into the Europa League. It's the first time that the Rossoneri have won back-to-back Champions League games since October 2011. They're not a vintage Milan side but they're still very good.
Milan have secured their place in the last 16 of this season's Champions League! The Italian champions were lucky to have the lead over Salzburg at half-time, but scored three goals in the second half to see their visitors off. Giroud was heavily involved for the hosts, grabbing two goals and two assists.

Goal
90' + 1' GOAL! AC MILAN 4-0 RB SALZBURG! Messias adds gloss to Milan's fine victory! The substitute reaches Giroud's forward pass on the counter and jinks inside from the right to fire left-footed into the top left corner. Kohn's unable to keep the shot out.

S. Koïta
N. Okafor

75' Kalulu's hassled by Wober in hs own half and gets a free-kick.
73' Milan are keeping the ball more easily now. Salzburg's energy levels have dipped.
71' Tonali misplaces a pass straight to Kjaergaard in front of his own box. The Dane hastily lashes wide of the right-hand post. That's Salzburg's best chance for a while.
T. Pobega
I. Bennacer

Junior Messias
Rafael Leão

Bernardo
O. Solet
46' Salzburg make a half-time substitution. Bernardo replaces Solet at centre-back.
Salzburg had 76 per cent possession in the last 15 minutes of that first half. They've had just one shot fewer than Milan's nine. Stefano Pioli won't want his players to bow to pressure and sit back after the break. He'll want his team to grab a second goal that would all but seal their last-16 place.
An energetic first half comes to an end. Milan lead through Giroud's header from a corner, but Salzburg have caused the Italian champions plenty of problems at the back. If the visitors can equalise early in the second half, a win really isn't beyond them. More to come!

27' Krunic gets back to defend and is pushed over by Dedic in his eagerness to win the ball. Milan free-kick.
25' Hernandez drives to the edge of the box and blasts a shot at goal that Kohn can only spill in front of him. Giroud promptly buries it into the net, but the offside flag goes straight up.

S. Tonali
Assist
14' Tonali whipped the ball into the box with menace, and there was no doubt that Giroud would get his head on the end of it. Milan will be glad to have the lead, given how open this game has been so far.
O. Giroud
Goal

This is Salzburg's second away trip to face Milan in the Champions League, the previous one being a 3-0 defeat in September 1994. The Italians are unbeaten in all three of these teams' Champions League meetings, drawing their last meeting in September 1-1. A repeat of that result would be enough to see the hosts through.
Salzburg put out the same 11 that lost narrowly at home to Chelsea 2-1 last week.
There are two changes to Milan from their last group game, a 4-0 away win over Dinamo Zagreb. Kjaer and Krunic come into the starting lineup.

Salzburg currently sit third in Group E and need a win to leapfrog Milan into second place. The Austrian champions have only picked up one win in the group so far, so they'll have to attack if they want to reach the knockout phase for a second consecutive season. Lose and they could drop out of Europe entirely depending on events elsewhere. It's on!
Milan and Salzburg come into this final group game with a place in the last 16 still in their sights. The Italians only need to draw here at San Siro to join Chelsea in the knockout phase. They'll be confident of doing so despite losing 2-1 away to Torino last weekend.
