That win keeps Newcastle in third place, edging them ever closer to Champions League football next season. They face bottom-place Southampton at the weekend. Everton's winless run goes on as they stay in 19th, two points from safety. It's a huge game for them next time out as they travel to Leicester City.

Newcastle come out on top in another big win as they beat Everton 4-1. After a bright start for the hosts, Wilson put Newcastle ahead against the run of play after pouncing on the rebound from Joelinton's saved shot. Calvert-Lewin thought he'd equalised just before the break, only to be denied by a tight offside. In the second half, Joelinton doubled their lead with a thumping header before Wilson curled in his brilliant second. McNeil pulled one back directly from a corner, only for Murphy to restore the three-goal cushion a minute later. Schar thought he'd made it five late on, but it was ruled out for an offside in the build-up.

90' + 1' NO GOAL! From the initial free-kick, Burn set off too early and was in an offside position when he got on the ball. It means that Schar's goal won't count and it's still 4-1!

90' SCHAR SCORES! And it's another brilliant goal for the Magpies! A free-kick is swung in from the right, but Burn can only help it out to the left. Schar brings it down before cutting inside and curling a superb shot through the crowd of players into the far post, but VAR is checking this for a possible offside...

80' MCNEIL PULLS ONE BACK! Everton win a corner of their own and McNeil goes out to the left to take it. He curls it into the near post, and it sails over Doucoure's head, but that leaves Pope wrongfooted. It sails past everyone to nestle straight in from the corner. 3-1!

78' GOOD SAVE! Trippier swings another dangerous corner into the near post and Schar gets the deftest of touches. It has Pickford scrambling across his line and he manages to keep it out.

77' Some Everton fans have seen enough and they're already starting to filter out of the stadium as Newcastle mount another attack. The visitors work it down their left again, but Joelinton can only win a corner this time.

67' The pressure isn't letting up on the hosts, but when it rolls back to Pickford, he sees a chance to get his team upfield. It's a poor clearance that's met by groans from the fans as it flies straight out of play.

65' Newcastle are back to keeping Everton penned back in their own half, but the visitors are struggling to get it into the box. They're knocking it around patiently to open up space and win a corner that comes to nothing.

63' CHANCE! Joelinton tries to loop a header into Almiron, but he lets it bounce over his head, with Wilson in space behind him. He takes on the shot from range and fires it high and wide of the near post.

61' Longstaff is down again holding his ankle, and this time it's Gueye that's trying to haul him back to his feet. The Everton players are getting frustrated here, and it's reflected by the fans.

59' Longstaff's cross is sent into the side netting as he's tackled by Godfrey. He stays down, but Pickford isn't happy as he thinks he's time-wasting and pushes him aside. He gets back straight back up as VAR looks at a possible penalty, but nothing's given.

57' GREAT CHANCE! It's a brilliant long ball over the top from Keane to pick out Calvert-Lewin, and on the stretch, he tries to chip it towards goal. It's going wide, but Doucoure keeps it alive only to fire his follow-up shot over.

55' Wilson is now Newcastle's outright top Premier League goalscorer this season with 12 goals (Miguel Almiron, 11); only in 2018-19 for Bournemouth (14) has he ever netted more in a single campaign in the top-flight.

53' Targett tried to wrestle Iwobi down, only to end up on the floor himself. The referee now takes it back and books him for the attempted challenge.

52' GOOD SAVE! Iwobi just brushes Targett aside as he leads another Everton counter. He slides it between two defenders to pick out Calvert-Lewin on the edge of the box and he fires a shot across goal, which Pope pushes away.

50' Everton work it quickly upfield once more and win a corner. Iwobi swings it into the box, but it's a very poor delivery from him that flies high over everyone and out for a throw-in on the far side.

48' Pickford goes long to Godfrey, who cushions it straight into Iwobi. He has three Newcastle players in front of him, but still manages to curl a wonderful cross into the far post. None of his team-mates are there to meet it.

46' BLOCK! Newcastle are out of the blocks quickly as Joelinton sends it forward to Willock on the left. He rides the challenge from Godfrey before curling a shot on goal, and Keane throws himself in front of it to block it.

46' Everton get us back underway for the second half!

Despite having the lead, Newcastle struggled to find their rhythm for large portions of the first half, and Howe will be looking for them to make a much better start to the second half. Dyche couldn't have wished for a better start from his side, and he'll be looking for them to be more clinical when they do get chances in the second half.

Wilson's goal gives Newcastle a 1-0 lead over Everton at half-time. It was the hosts that made a bright start to the game, giving Newcastle absolutely no time to find their footing, and Pope made a couple of comfortable saves to keep out Gueye and McNeil. Against the run of play, Wilson fired Newcastle ahead, pouncing on the rebound from Joelinton's saved shot to fire in. Calvert-Lewin thought he'd equalised in stoppage time, but his chip was ruled out for offside.

45' + 5' HALF-TIME: EVERTON 0-1 NEWCASTLE UNITED.

45' + 5' VAR has a long look at the offside call against Calvert-Lewin and it's a lot tighter than it first appeared. He's just leaning into an offside position, past the line of Botman's foot, and the decision of no goal stands. Still 1-0 Newcastle!

45' + 3' OFFSIDE! McNeil spins between two Newcastle players in midfield before threading it through for Calvert-Lewin, who gets away from Trippier. He darts into the box before neatly chipping a shot over Pope, but the flag goes up against him. VAR is having a look at this though...

45' + 1' Into three added minutes at the end of the first half, and Everton have a chance to break again. Doucoure looks to spread it out to the right, but plays the pass blind, slicing it straight to Targett instead of his team-mate.

44' Trippier is waiting to come back on after finishing his treatment, but he'll have to wait until after Everton's free-kick. McNeil's initial delivery is poor, but Everton keep it alive to win a corner from which Keane fires wide.

42' Trippier and Mykolenko both slide in to try and win the ball, and the right-back stays down holding his knee after the collision. The medical team are on, but it doesn't look good for Newcastle.

40' Guimaraes spins past Onana and threatens to break forward, so the Belgian pulls him back by his shirt, ripping it in the process. He's shown the first yellow card of the game.

38' Newcastle work it well down their right, and most of the Everton players are drawn to that side. Willock has Joelinton to aim for in space at the far post, but Iwobi reads it well and gets across to block it.

36' CHANCE! After soaking up a lot of pressure from Newcastle in the last few minutes, Everton have the chance to break. McNeil finds a pocket of space on the edge of the box, but again, drills his shot straight at Pope.

34' Newcastle's first corner comes to nothing, but their second causes a few problems. Pickford rushes off his line leaving his goal empty and gets nowhere near the ball. Luckily for him, no Newcastle players make contact with it either.

32' Another long ball over the top threatens to cause Everton some problems as Trippier looks for Almiron ahead of him this time. Mykolenko gets there first, but ends up giving away a corner with a loose first touch.

30' It's Everton that are being penned in now, as Newcastle work it down their right. Longstaff clips it in from the byline, looking for Wilson again, but he can't get any power on his header.

28' WILSON SCORES! Against the run of play, Newcastle have the lead! It's switched out to Targett on the left, who just helps it onto Joelinton. He bursts down the wing before cutting inside and wrongfooting Godfrey in the protest. Pickford pushes his shot against Tarkowski which holds it up and Wilson reacts quickest to fire it into the roof of the net. 1-0 Newcastle!

26' Newcastle are really struggling to get out of their own half here. Everton aren't letting up the pressure of their high press and it's stifling any attempts the visitors have to get forward.

24' Keane's perseverance pays off as he bundles his way down the right before it's worked out to the left. Calvert-Lewin debates having a shot, but instead crosses it. It deflects off Longstaff, looping high into the air, and Iwobi can't control it.

22' SAVE! Again, Everton win it back high upfield, and Gueye quickly tees up McNeil. He's a long way out but tries his luck anyway, only to fire it straight down the middle at Pope.

20' A heavy touch gets away from Calvert-Lewin and he slips as he hits a shot on goal. It allows Newcastle to break quickly on the counter, with Guimaraes spreading it out to Almiron, but his low cross is deflected to Pickford by Tarkowski.

18' Two great tackles from Onana and Tarkowski stop Newcastle from getting over the halfway line, and it opens up space for Keane to make a driving run through the middle. He tries to square it to Gueye, but he's caught on his heels.

16' Newcastle are starting to find their rhythm here, and they're doing a better job of keeping possession. They patiently work it out from the back, only for Keane to stop Almiron in his tracks on the edge of the box.

14' Newcastle have won just one of their last 10 Premier League away games against Everton (D3 L6), a 2-0 victory in January 2021.

12' Longstaff slides in late on Gueye just to the left of the D, and Everton have a free-kick in a good position. It's Gueye that takes it, curling it over the wall, but there isn't enough dip to take it under the bar.

10' Newcastle can't make anything of their corners, and Everton are on the attack once more. It's spread out to McNeil on the left and he threads it forward for Mykolenko, but his cross is blocked by Trippier.

8' SAVE! Everton's high press is causing Newcastle all sorts of problems here as they win it back just outside the box once more. McNeil lays it off to Gueye, who takes on the shot from just outside the D, but it's straight into Pope's gloves.

6' Botman slices at his clearance and Iwobi pounces onto it, quickly curling a cross into the middle. Calvert-Lewin gets in front of Schar, but it's just too high for him to make contact with.

4' McNeil's first attempt to play it over the top is cut out by Trippier, but he gets it straight back. He lays it off to Gueye, who does pick out Doucoure's run off the back of Schar, but he set off too early.

2' It's not the greatest clearance from Mykolenko as it's nodded down by Joelinton, and Newcastle look to get it into the box quickly. Trippier lifts it over the top to Willock on the left, but he can't keep it in play.

Everton have won just one of their last six Premier League games against Newcastle (D1 L4), though it did come in this exact fixture last season (1-0).

Eddie Howe also makes three changes to his team after their win over Spurs at the weekend. Targett, Almiron and Wilson are all brought in. Isak and Murphy, who both got two goals each in that match, start on the bench, as does Burn.

Sean Dyche makes three changes from their draw with Crystal Palace last time out. They're boosted by the returns of Doucoure from suspension and Onana from injury, with Godfrey also coming into the side. Garner and Gray both drop to the bench, while Mason Holgate is suspended after being sent off in that game.

It's a game with big implications at both ends of the table. Newcastle took another big step towards Champions League football next season with a thumping 6-1 win over Tottenham on Sunday, meaning they bounced back in style from their 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa in their last away game.
