That's all from us, we'll catch you for the next game. Until then, it's goodbye.
Chelsea remain third after that win, still six points off leaders Manchester City, who also won their corresponding Boxing Day fixture. Villa drop to tenth, and could be overtaken by up to five sides in the coming days. Their next fixture against Leeds is postponed due to positive coronavirus cases, and therefore they are at risk of being leapfrogged by several of the sides below them in the table, before the new year.
The industrious nature of Chelsea's Reece James was reflected in his performance at Villa Park. He led the way for Chelsea in terms of successful passes, touches and aerial duels, and also pulled off three clearances and five interceptions to ensure that, despite conceding an own goal to give Villa the lead, that was as good as it got for the home side, who sought to exploit the right-hand-side of Chelsea's defence on numerous occasions, but were unsuccessful every single time after that.
The match comes to an end, and it's a victory for Chelsea, who after two draws in their last two fixtures, produced a fantastic second-half performance to put this game beyond the reach of Villa, who never looked like giving in! Lukaku's fantastic header ten minutes after the resumption, and Jorginho's penalty a minute from time meant that despite their hard work and near-constant counter attacking, Villa weren't able to muster up enough good chance to trouble Chelsea, and although the final score does somewhat flatter the Blues, there's no denying that they were the better team for large portions of that second half.
90' + 4' FULL-TIME: ASTON VILLA 1-3 CHELSEA.
Jorginho
Penalty Goal
90' + 3' GOAL!!!! Jorginho squeezes his penalty past the fingertips of Martinez into the bottom right-hand corner, and at 3-1, it looks like Chelsea will be taking all three points back to West London!
E. Konsa
Yellow Card
90' + 2' A yellow card for Konsa, and it's more of a surprise that it isn't red! He was the last man after all!
90' + 2' PENALTY!!!!! Chelsea break through Lukaku who beats Targett to the ball and races into the box, before he's cut down by Konsa for the most obvious penalty you've ever seen! Jorginho has a chance to put this one beyond Villa right at the death!
90' + 1' We're into the first of four minutes added on for stoppages at the end of this second half.
90' BLOCKED!!! A deflected Traore ball falls to Chukwuemeka, and his shot cannons back off two Chelsea defenders before being cleared!
89' Jorginho is down and signalling treatment, but the referee waves away the Chelsea doctors as their captain finally gets to his feet.
88' WHAT A SAVE!!!!!!! Chelsea break through Lukaku, and he waits for the support to arrive before finding Kovacic. He in turn feeds Hudson-Odoi, whose low shot is saved superbly by Martinez!!! That looked like a third goal without any doubt, and the Villa keeper has just kept his side in this game!
86' BLOCKED!!! Mount drives forward and plays a one-two with Lukaku before setting up Alonso, whose right-footed effort in the box hits the chest of Ramsey and goes behind for a corner!
84' An Alonso cross from the left is nearly connected with by the incoming Mount, but Targett outmuscles the Chelsea midfielder to win possession and come away with the ball.
83' Kovacic surges forward for Chelsea and looks to find the run of Lukaku, but it's cut out by Konsa and Villa can set off on a break of their own.
81' Villa's possession of the ball has increased from 38 per cent in the first half to 46.9 per cent so far in the second. They may not have had as many chances in this period, but the Villains are far from out of this game with just under 10 minutes left.
79' Ramsey finds Targett out wide and the left-back plays the ball across to El Ghazi. He shoots first-time from the edge of the box, but it's easily saved by the unmoved Mendy.
77' Luiz looks to find Konsa on the run from a deep free-kick, but the Villa centre-back is blown for offside as he loses out in an aerial duel for the ball with Rudiger.
A. El Ghazi
M. Sanson
76' Sanson is the next to come off for Villa, and Anwar El Ghazi replaces him.
74' Some really good play from Villa as Chukwuemena tees up Cash down the byline, but Cash's cut-back for Watkins is intercepted by Rudiger and Chelsea clear once more!
C. Chukwuemeka
E. Buendía
74' Buendia also comes off for Steven Gerrard's side, and Carney Chukwuemeka enters the field of play.
B. Traoré
D. Ings
73' Ings comes off in Villa's first change, and ex-Chelsea winger Bertrand Traore replaces him.
72' Villa's breaks have been less frequent in this half, and it's looking likely that the extra Chelsea defender at the back is aiding in their attempts to win possession and get the ball forward to the attacking four as quickly as possible.
Marcos Alonso
Yellow Card
70' Cash cuts inside Alonso and steams towards the box, before he's brought down by the Chelsea left-back for a free-kick. Alonso is also yellow-carded for his troubles.
68' It's been a busy afternoon for Villa right-back Cash, who as well as completing a game-high three key passes, has also had more touches, completed more crosses, and won the ball more times than any other player from his side.
66' WIDE!!! Mount is played in behind by Jorginho, and cuts inside the oncoming Martinez. He shoots at the empty net on his left foot, and the ball rolls agonisingly wide of the post and into the side-netting!
65' James steps up to shoot from the free-kick, but it's a wayward effort that flies straight over the bar and behind.
T. Mings
Yellow Card
65' Mings hauls Lukaku down as the Chelsea striker looks to turn into the box with the ball, and he is yellow-carded as Villa prepare to defend this dangerous-looking free-kick.
64' Hudson-Odoi's performance has gone under the radar thus far. His assist comes alongside a key pass and two shots, as well as eight individual duels, more than any other Chelsea player.
M. Kovačić
N. Kanté
63' Kante's afternoon's work is over, and Mateo Kovacic comes on in his place for Chelsea.
62' A ball played forward for Watkins could put him through on goal with Mendy, but the Chelsea keeper has already run well out of his goal to clear the ball and avert the danger.
60' Ramsey drives Villa forward and tees up Buendia, but his cross just misses Ings and is cleared by Christensen.
58' Chelsea’s last two Premier League games had finished level, with the Blues last drawing three consecutive league games back in February 2012. Meanwhile, they’ve never gone three league games without a win so far under Thomas Tuchel, and should they hold onto this lead, that unwanted record will not be extended!
C. Hudson-Odoi
Assist
56' The Hudson-Odoi cross was absolutely perfect for Lukaku to head in, but Villa will be fuming that the Chelsea winger had so much time to get the ball away!
R. Lukaku
Goal
56' GOOOOOAAAAALLLLLLL!!!!!! Chelsea take the lead!!!! Hudson-Odoi has time and space on the left, and whips in a cross that's met by the head of Lukaku. His glancing header flies straight past the immobile Martinez and into the top corner to make it 2-1 to Chelsea! What a header!
54' Pulisic dribbles into the crowded Villa box, but takes far too long to shoot and is eventually dispossessed!
53' SAVED!!! A crazy chance as a Mount cross flies into the box, bypassing Lukaku but being headed back towards his own goal by Cash! Martinez unwittingly stops it, and Cash's blushes are spared but we could've easily seen the game's second own goal there!
52' WHAT A CHANCE!!! Chelsea create space with a diagonal Lukaku pass and Alonso touches it down for Hudson-Odoi to hit. He does so, but it's a very poor effort that dribbles towards goal, allowing Mings to clear the danger with relative ease.
A. Christensen
Thiago Silva
52' Silva is the next to come off for Chelsea, and Andreas Christensen enters the fray.
50' Kante looks to play Mount through down the right, but the Chelsea man's run is pulled back as he is offside.
49' The introduction of Lukaku looks to have brought about a change in Chelsea's formation, with the striker ahead of Pulisic, Mount and Hudson-Odoi, and James and Alonso retreating to create a flat back-four.
47' Hudson-Odoi floats a ball into the box, and Lukaku, Mings and Martinez all collide, leaving Mings in a heap on the floor and needing treatment.
46' Ings kicks off for Villa, and the second half is underway!
R. Lukaku
T. Chalobah
46' Chalobah is withdrawn at half-time by Thomas Tuchel, and on comes Romelu Lukaku.
The teams make their way back onto the pitch, and it's all to play for in this half!
In Premier League history, there have been 38 red cards in games played on Boxing Day. 8 per cent of these came in one match – Villa and Chelsea's 4-4 draw in 2007, with Zat Knight being sent off for Villa, and Ricardo Carvalho and Ashley Cole seeing red for the Blues.
What a first 45 minutes of football! Chances aplenty at both ends, as Villa's counter-attacking produced a freak own-goal, and has threatened to breach Chelsea's goal on several other occasions! Chelsea replied almost immediately though, with Jorginho tucking away a routine penalty after Cash brought down Hudson-Odoi. Level pegging at half-time, but far too close to call, and second half is set to be a cracker!
45' + 1' HALF-TIME: ASTON VILLA 1-1 CHELSEA.
45' We'll play a minute of added time at the end of this first half.
44' Forward come Villa again, and Watkins has it on the right. He can't get around Rudiger and so looks to cross, but his ball deflects off the Chelsea defender straight into the waiting arms of Mendy.
43' WIDE!!! Chelsea break through Alonso, who crosses from the byline. The ball skids across the face of goal, before Targett's knee sends it just wide of the post for a Blues corner!
42' Ings gets the ball in the box but is crowded out, and plays a clever backheel for Buendia to latch onto. It's a good ball, but Chalobah is there again to snuff out the danger and clear for Chelsea!
41' CLEARED!!! Cash has stayed forward as Targett finds him in the box, but this time it's Chalobah in the way and Chelsea survive once more!
40' BLOCKED!!! Cash cuts inside and drives through Chelsea's midfield before sending Ings through on goal. He shoots first time, but Rudiger is back to block the ball once more!
39' CHANCE!!! Villa break once more through Sanson, flying down the right side. His inside ball is almost at the feet of Watkins, but Mendy races out of his goal to clear the ball away for Chelsea! He timed that perfectly, and if he hadn't, Villa might've had a second!
38' Watkins does very well to keep ahold of the ball after Ings plays him in, and looks to find his fellow striker with a return ball before he's flagged for offside.
36' James' cross into the box is deflected awkwardly off Targett, but Martinez is equal to it and gathers before Pulisic can get to the loose ball.
Jorginho
Penalty Goal
34' GOAL!! Jorginho steps up for Chelsea, and does what he does best, slotting the ball into the back of the net and leaving Martinez with no chance! 1-1!
E. Martínez
Yellow Card
33' Martinez appeals the ref's decision quite vehemently, and is subsequently booked for dissent.
33' PENALTY!!!! Hudson-Odoi has the last laugh as he latches onto a pass into the Villa box, before he's felled by Cash and the ref points to the spot!
32' BLOCKED!!! Chelsea fly forward and Pulisic tees up Hudson-Odoi in the box. He cuts inside looking to shoot, but it deflects off Cash and is cleared away!
30' Villa have only failed to score in one of their last 14 Premier League home games, and have found the net in each of their last nine at Villa Park, since a 0-0 draw with Everton in May.
R. James
Own Goal
28' OH NO!!!!!! IT'S AN OWN GOAL!!!!!! Villa break through Ings, who tees up Cash for a cross, but it gives time for Chelsea to get back and Watkins is crowded upon connecting with the cross. He lays off to Targett, whose wicked whipped in ball diverts off James and over Mendy into the back of the net! A freak goal, but Villa won't care as they're 1-0 up, and Villa Park has erupted!
26' Buendia looks to win the ball from Jorginho and set up a Villa break, but instead shunts the Chelsea midfielder to the ground and concedes a free-kick.
24' OVER!!! Mount cuts inside from the left and curls a teasing cross-cum-shot towards goal. It's heading in before Martinez rises to tip it over the bar!
23' Pulisic feeds James on the byline, and he fires in a dangerous cross that Cash can only head behind for a Chelsea corner.
21' This is the sixth time Aston Villa and Chelsea have met in a league match on Boxing Day, with Chelsea unbeaten in the five games so far, winning three. The last such match came in the 2007-08 season, a 4-4 draw at Stamford Bridge.
19' CHANCE!!! Luiz fires forward a long ball for Watkins, who's through again. He cuts inside Chalobah again, but this time it's blocked by the Chelsea defender and the away side clear their lines!
18' BLOCKED!!! Alonso floats a cross in towards the far post, where Mount meets it with a viciously-hit volley. It cannons off the back of Mings and goes behind for a Chelsea corner!
16' Ramsey is teed up by Watkins and races straight around the outside of Chalobah on his way into the box. Silva nicks the ball off him as he goes down under pressure from Chalobah, but the referee isn't convinced that the challenge warrants a penalty.
14' BLOCKED!!! Villa break again, and this time it's Ings who is put through on goal. He's on his own, but cuts inside to shoot anyway, and a deflection off Rudiger takes the ball behind for a corner!
13' There's a tangle near halfway as Watkins looks to win possession despite being surrounded by the yellow shirts of Chelsea, and the Villa striker brings down Jorginho and concedes the free-kick.
11' CORNER!!! An intercept allows Buendia to break at pace, with Watkins and Ings both ahead of him. He finds Watkins wide, whose dangerous ball into the box is put behind for a corner by Silva with Ings waiting to pounce!
9' Chelsea have had a few chances to put runners through into gaps behind the Villa defence, but so far Mings and Konsa have been wise to every ball the Blues have attempted to thread through, and are holding their lines at the moment.
7' Chelsea won the reverse fixture 3-0 earlier this season, and are looking to complete a Premier League double over Aston Villa for the seventh time – only Manchester United (15) and Manchester City (8) have done so against the Villains more often.
5' Hudson-Odoi finds James on the right, who tees up Mount inside him, but the England midfielder is crowded out before he can shoot and Villa are able to clear.
4' Watkins brings the ball forward and plays it to Buendia. He flicks a reverse-pass forwards for Ings to run onto, but Mendy is out to gather before the Villa striker can connect with the ball.
3' Aston Villa won this exact fixture 2-1 last season, but haven’t won back-to-back home league games against Chelsea back since 2004.
1' Chelsea kick off, and this match is underway!
The teams make their way out onto the pitch, and we’re almost ready for kick-off at Villa Park!
Thomas Tuchel makes two changes to the Chelsea side that drew 0-0 at Wolves, with Jorginho and Hudson-Odoi taking the places of Ziyech and Azpilicueta. The latter two drop to the bench, alongside Romelu Lukaku, who has returned to the matchday squad after a positive Covid test.
Danny Ings makes his first Villa start in over a month as positive coronavirus cases force a change-up in Steven Gerrard’s XI, with John McGinn, Marvelous Nakamba and Leon Bailey all absent.

European Champions Chelsea’s form has stuttered of late, winning only one of their last four games against a depleted Leeds side. However, in their previous match against Villa this season, the Blues won 3-0 at a canter at Stamford Bridge.
The Villains have experienced a great period of form since Steven Gerrard’s appointment of manager, winning four of six league games. The other two games, however, were losses against Manchester City and Liverpool – the only two sides above Chelsea in the table.
Hello, and welcome to live coverage of this Boxing Day fixture in the Premier League, between Aston Villa and Chelsea at Villa Park.
