Thembinkosi Lorch, Orlando Pirates, December 2021
The Buccaneers overcame the Algerian outfit 2-0 in their opening Group B game on Sunday. GOAL rates the performances of Bucs players

  • Siyabonga Mpontshane, Orlando Pirates, February 2021

    Siyabonga Mpontshane - 7/10

Pulled off two key saves in the first-half with Saoura pushing for a goal.

However, Mpontshane had little to do in the rest of the game with the Bucs defence doing a good job to protect him.

  • Bandile Shandu Orlando Pirates

    Bandile Shandu - 8/10

A huge menace going forward on the night.

Shandu drove forward to join up the attack as usual, linking up well with his teammates and he timed his run well when he scored Bucs' second goal.

  • Paseka Mako, Orlando Pirates, October 2021

    Paseka Mako - 6/10

Mohamed Hammia gave Mako a torrid time in the left flank.

Hammia kept Mako occupied at the back and most of Saoura's attacks came through the left flank, but the Pirates left-back improved after the restart as he began pushing forward.

  • Olisa Ndah, Orlando Pirates, October 2021

    Olidah Ndah - 8/10

Solid in defence - keeping Saoura's lethal striker Abdelaziz Lahmeri quiet.

Ndah made important clearances and interceptions, while also helping carry the ball forward due to his good ball-playing skills.

  • Happy Jele & Thabang Monare, Orlando Pirates, October 2021

    Happy Jele - 7/10

A threat to Saoura from set-pieces throughout the game and he opened the scoring.

However, Jele wasn't really tested by the Eagles defensively on the night with Ndah keeping the visitors' dangerman, Lahmeri quiet.

  • Thabang Monare, Orlando Pirates, October 2021

    Thabang Monare - 6/10

Couldn't stamp his authority in midfield.

Monare was given sleepless nights by Belaid Hamidi, who dominated the middle battle and the Pirates midfielder was substituted while looking tired.

  • Goodman Mosele, Orlando Pirates, September 2021

    Goodman Mosele - 7/10

While his midfield partner, Monare, under-performed, Mosele rose to the occasion.

Mosele was tidy in possession, while also carrying the ball forward and he was involved in the build-up to the opening goal.

  • Ntsako Makhubela, Orlando Pirates, September 2021

    Ntsako Makhubela - 6/10

Demonstrated his uncanny ability to work in tight spaces.

Makhubela got himself in goalscoring positions, he didn't have much luck in finding the net.

  • Thembinkosi Lorch, Orlando Pirates, December 2021

    Thembinkosi Lorch - 8/10

Lorch is slowly getting back to his best as he was a thorn in Saoura's face.

His direct runs were a problem for the visitors as he started the move which led to the second goal and his delivery from set-pieces was also top-notch as his free-kick led to the first goal.

  • Deon Hotto, Orlando Pirates, November 2021

    Deon Hotto - 7/10

Endured a slow start to the game with Riyane Akacem containing him.

However, Hotto burst into life in the second-half as his powerful runs unsettled the Eagles' defence and he provided the assist when Shandu doubled Bucs' lead.

  • Kwame Peprah, Orlando Pirates, December 2021

    Kwame Peprah - 6/10

Used his physique to create problems for the Saoura defence.

Peprah won his aerial battles and tried to combine with his teammates, but his influence waned off after the restart.

  • Abel Mabaso, Orlando Pirates, November 2021

    Abel Mabaso - 6/10

Came on primarily to provide cover for defence in the 61st minute and he did the job.

  • Ben Motshwari, Orlando Pirates, November 2021

    Ben Motshwari - 7/10

His introduction in the 61st minute helped change the complexion of the game and played some forward passes which put Saoura on the backfoot.

  • Wayde Jooste, Orlando Pirates, August 2021

    Wayde Jooste - 6/10

Injected pace, directness and urgency into Bucs' attack after coming on in the 74th minute, but his final ball was poor.

  • Zakhele Lepasa, Orlando Pirates, October 2020

    Zakhele Lepasa - 5/10

Tried to inject more pace into the Bucs attack in the final ten minutes, but had little impact.

  • Kabelo Dlamini, Orlando Pirates, November 2021

    Kabelo Dlamini - 5/10

Hardly touched the ball after coming on in the 80th minute.
