The 1996 African champions maintained their winning run under Hugo Broos, but there were a few negatives that can be take from the game.

South Africa overcame Mozambique 2-1 in an international friendly match at Mbombela Stadium on Thursday night.

It was Bafana Bafana's third win in a row including September's victories over Sierra Leone and Botswana in friendly games.

Coach Hugo Broos will take away both positives and negatives from the game which saw his side come from behind to secure a win.

  • Miguel Timm, Bafana Bafana, November 2022

    Miguel Timm

What a way to mark your debut for the senior national team. The Orlando Pirates midfield general was influential in the middle of the park playing like a seasoned international. Timm carried his club form into the international scene and his performance could see him become a permanent fixture in the national team.

    Bongokuhle Hlongwane

The Minnesota United marksman stepped up to the plate when his nation needed him. Hlongwane showed how much he has developed in the last six months at his MLS club. Hlongwane, 22, displayed good movement and finishing ability inside the opposition's box and his readiness to become Bafana's first-choice striker.

    Hugo Broos

The Belgian tactician is now able to bring out the best in his attackers with Bafana having scored seven goals in their last three matches. The one player who can be key to Broos' success as the national team coach is Themba Zwane. It is becoming evident that the 2017 Afcon title-winning coach is slowly building his team around the highly-rated Mamelodi Sundowns attacker who has become the heartbeat of Bafana's attack with his special ability to score and create goals.

  • Rushine de Reuck Bafana Bafana.

    Rushine de Reuck

Having lost his place in the team to Nkosinathi Sibisi during September's international break, the talented defender was given a chance to start and re-cement his place in the team. However, De Reuck failed to grab the opportunity with both hands as he was shaky and sloppy in defence - making several mistakes including the one that led to the Mambas' goal.

    Ronwen Williams

Broos should be concerned with his captain's performance. Williams' passing and decision-making were poor with the Mamas having identified his weaknesses on the night. The 30-year-old gave away possession on a few occasions, but the visitors failed to punish him. Williams will have to improve his passing and decision making otherwise he will end up being dropped.

  • Grant Kekana, Bafana Bafana, November 2022

    Defensive ratings:

    Ronwen Williams - 4.5/10

    Surprisingly shaky between the sticks.

The Bafana captain's passing was poor - giving away possession twice and he was lucky not to be punished on each occasion. However, he can't be blamed for Divrassone's goal.

    Nyiko Mobbie - 6.5/10

Endured a slow start to the game.

Mobbie was initially kept busy by the Mozambican attackers and he was not offering much going forward. However, he improved after the restart and he provided the assist for the equalizing goal and his cross nearly led to an own-goal.

    Aubrey Modiba - 7/10

    Decent display.

Modiba was solid defensively and he regularly pushed forward into the opposition's half where he delivered some good crosses into the visitors' box.

    Rushine de Reuck - 5.5/10

    Unconvincing display.

De Reuck was sloppy in defence and was at fault for Mambas' goal giving away possession to Divrassone who scored. He was rarely troubled after the restart with Bafana dominating the game.

    Grant Kekana - 6.5/10

Struggled to cope with Mozambique's press early on.

However, Kekana improved as the game wore on. He made some good recoveries and was strong in the air. Did show some good tenacity with important challenges and clearances.

  • Teboho Mokoena, Bafana Bafana, August 2021

    Midfield ratings:

    Miguel Timm - 7.5/10

Impressive performance on his Bafana debut.

Timm ran things from the centre of the park, controlling the pace for Bafana and laying some excellent balls from over the top to get the hosts on the front foot.

    Teboho Mokoena - 6/10

Not at his best on the night.

Mokoena burst forward on a couple of occasions in the first half to link up with his forwards, but nothing meaningful came off them.

    Themba Zwane - 7.5/10

Targeted by the Mozambicans, but he still played well.

Zwane was chief architect of South Africa's victory with his incisive movement and good combination play. He provided the assist for the winning goal.

  • Monnapule Saleng, Bafana Bafana, July 2021

    Forward ratings:

    Monnapule Saleng - 6/10

It was a quiet game for a man who has had an excellent campaign for Orlando Pirates.

Saleng got himself good into positions in the opposition's box, but he was let down by some poor finishing as he was easily denied by goalkeeper Ivane, twice.

    Bongokuhle Hlongwane - 8.5/10

    Man of the Match.

Hlongwane displayed good positioning and predatory instinct in the opposition's box and he grabbed two well taken goals.

    Zakhele Lepasa - 5.5/10

    Full of running.

However, clear-cut chances didn't fall for Lepasa on the night, but he did well to press the opposition's defenders and rushed them into making mistakes.

  • Alex Bangura, Sierra Leone & Kgaogelo Sekgota, Bafana Bafana, November 2022

    Subs ratings:

    Kgaogelo Sekgota - 6.5/10

Came on in the 70th minute and he energized Bafana with his ambitious runs, while playing some lovely crosses with one of them nearly leading to an own goal.

    Luke le Roux - 6/10

Stuck to the basics after replacing Zwane as he won back possession and combined well with his teammates in midfield having been introduced in the 80th minute.

    Fagrie Lakay - 5.5/10

Made a few promising runs, but he didn't pose a real threat to Mambas defence.

    Khanyisa Mayo - N/A

Introduced in the 89th minute and it was too late to warrant a rating.
